Even though "Gravity" was a great movie in terms of visuals... I mean, oh well, 90% of the screen space was taken up by black space most of the time. And yeah, there were some amazing scenes, but. But. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" contains a lot more of them. The lighting work, the fur, and animation are just insane. How challenging it is to make speakless characters, for the most part communicating through sign language, truly alive. So that the viewer can understand the character through their body language. My God. You did a one hell of a job, even now, rewatching film in 2022, I'm impressed.
As a blender noob it was super interesting. I watched it having in mind that there are people who made all that CGI and I was amazed. Before doing any 3D modeling I never paid attention to such things. Great job!
Holy shit, I only just now realized the destroyed San Fran was fake, I didn't even think about it in terms of being a set or anything, I just accepted it, it was totally believable, nice work! Anyway, this film has three levels of realism. There's Caesar - looked great, but he still looked CGI, I guess because his face was more human-like than the others. Koba - if you didn't focus on it he looked absolutely real. Maurice - try as I might I couldn't see the artificiality. Maurice looked like a real Orangutan 100%. It's TRULY amazing work.

I think Koba wasn't completely wrong in his approach to knowing that even doh there are good humans the majority have Ill will and he didn't care of the casualties that came from it just knowing that he was doing what he thought was best for the apes
Definitely a ginormous improvement over "Rise"'s ape effects. The process is not even subtle, if you look at this after "Rise", it's like skipping from PlayStation 2 graphics to PlayStation 4.
It's LIdar a detection system which works on the principle of radar, but uses light from a laser. It's the same technology they use to map landscapes and detect changes in the earth surface.
+Mathew Crisp (MadMaty) Even though this looks amazing, Interstellar has made the most complex vfx to date. Building a freakin black hole that uses real calculations as would it in real life. It even made an amazing scientific discovery. Altough I liked this movie more than Interstellar :P
And Andy Serkis only views what the animators do as 'digital makeup'.... he's really nothing more than a place holder in the film for the animators and a voice actor.... the rest is the talent of the animators.
Jack Sheppard im comparing which movie is better. Interstellar is one the best movies out there, the concept it self. i would give CGI to Planet of the apes tho
This is still some of the best CGI I've ever seen and its now 2022!
This one should get an Oscar for VFX. You've earned it. Fantastic work
Oscars are fraud bro
I think it did
I guess it is pretty off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@@michaelonyx3903 yeah afdah
The film looked fantastic. You folks did a phenomenal job on Dawn!
As always, Weta brought their best 🔥👏

Ironically, the work invested in those three characters was the other way around
Render time???.... 1 BILLION YEARS!! Haha
So actors are just motion reference, and voice overs? Amazing.
I see the movie today. Best vfx ever in a movie 👏
Wish you the best for the Oscars. Your artists truly deserve it!

Amazing
Weta, can you please do an exclusive BTS of Koba. I must see my favorite scenes with Toby Kebbell without the CGI and with it!
Love it, you guys always been the best! We all hope Dawn wins the Oscar!
Great video. I appreciate the narration!
WETA! I love you, guys! Best work ever!
Congratz!
this video is very intimate with just the voiceover...and no music. i actually kinda dig it.
A masterpiece in every way
CG is just insane these days

This is still sooo much better than ANYTHING they've put in the MCU
Very interesting guys! :)
This blew my mind.
The 360 tank scene is fully animated??? What???
Just amazing work guys. I'm wondering, what is your pipeline work for all of these? Congrats to all of you! Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing guys, my dream is learn more about this combination of techniques to how build such incredible effects.
Even after 1 year, this is still better than Maz Kanata in star wars VII, this should win Oscar, not Interstellar
Lol...
krush interstellar best movie!
Yeah no. Interstellar is in a different league.
@@TheEchelon Interstellar is overrated trash.

Wow! What was the budget for this movie!?
Please i need full behind the scenes of makind dawn and war for the planets of the apes.. if anyone knows where can i find it please tell me
if you told me those were animatronics, I would believe you.
I admire you sooo much...
He says "we started from over a mile of ___ data from the actual city", what is this data? and how does it work?
LIDAR. Basically laser-radar.
It's LIdar a detection system which works on the principle of radar, but uses light from a laser. It's the same technology they use to map landscapes and detect changes in the earth surface.
Wow
Should have won over Interstellar

@@rdejano3 STFU. These performance capture CGI characters have the BEST, most groundbreaking CGI the world has ever seen and you don't even realize
@@rdejano3 Is simulating one black hole harder than soo many scenes with so many apes though? :P
not the venezuelan tower lmaooo

this! serkis is a damn idiot.
Andrew Snarls While I do agree with most of this, that's Serkis' voice.
Robert Lugo Exactly, which is why I gave him credit as a "voice actor".
I made them for no reason
People saying this over interstellar lol yeah no
Frisson are you seriously saying that the CGI in Interstellar is better than this?
Jack Sheppard im comparing which movie is better. Interstellar is one the best movies out there, the concept it self. i would give CGI to Planet of the apes tho
Frisson oh alright then. I personally enjoy this movie over Interstellar but I was about to battle your ass over the CGI.
Jack Sheppard interstellar still kills it, concept, story. cgi interstellar still great, you can battle me out but remember who won lol..
Interstellar is overrated trash
cartoon
Well it's kinda sad because VFX work in this production is outstanding but the movie itself is just bad.
Lol, how?
this movie is great
american movies high in tech but shit in story telling.
POV: you didn’t watch the movie
what the story about? tell me
