Nothing you show me will convince me that this is CGI. You need to admit that you taught apes to speak, ride horses and shoot weapons. These are the best CG creations I've ever seen on a film and I hope you are incredibly proud of what you achieved
I think this film was groundbreaking in HOW it used CG, not just the level of quality. Sure, tons of films have a lot of create CG and VFX in them, but the way they seamlessly integrated into this movie was what made it spectacular in my opinion. At no point during this movie did I feel like was watching CG even though you know it is, it all felt very natural and real. With how much was used in this film, it's an incredible achievement. Mindblowing.
You know they reached new heights when the actors in their suits look more fake against the background than the CGI apes. This is astonishing work, period. In most scenes of this movie, you really can't see a difference. I can't wait to see what Cameron does with these innovations in the next Avatar movies.... if we ever see it.....
Optical Zoom that doesn’t mean they did the mustache effect, multiple vfx companies work on films, weta probably didn’t do the mustache effect it’s not really their specialty
@@dawsonboyle99 Yeah I'm pretty sure weta did not do the mustache. Either way they didn't have that much time since almost every fucking scene with supes was a reshoot lmao. That movie could have been awesome :(
@@dawsonboyle99 Well he had to keep the mustache since he was filming Mission impossible. WB even offered to pay for cavill to shave it off and use a fake one for that film but they declined.
Yeah. These guys didn't get the Oscar for Best Special Effects. Blade Runner 2049 did... Though the whole marketing for that film forgot to mention that the "real" miniatures were actually so CGI enhanced that they were basically pointless and ended up being a huge waste of money. Way to go, guys. In the meantime WftPotA is groundbreaking. I wish the Academy would stop giving awards to films that are looking more backwards than forwards in terms of techniques and skills. CGI is not bad when put in good hands. Practical effects aren't necessarily great because they are used. It all depends on the narrative incentive.
2049 was more groundbreaking and deserved the win. Aside from the flawlessly rendered city environments, the digital recreation of Rachel from the original film is a more significant CGI milestone than these apes. It’s just unfortunate they came out in the same year. Also, no reason to be an asshole and disrespect the miniatures like that.
I am still absolutely pissed and flabbergasted that you guys lost an Oscar to Blade Runner. This epic trilogy should have won 3 Oscars in a row. Absolute nonsense. Weta, you crossed uncanny valley and honestly what I believe to be the best CGI I’ve ever seen. Photorealistic apes. Utterly real. Oh, look space ships and holograms. Like we haven’t seen that before... fuck you Blade Runner 2049...
IKR? They got fucking robbed... and again, WETA totally deserved it for all of this. They keep pushing the bar higher and higher with each of these movies. Now... you can hardly tell what's organic and what's digital
Crossing the uncanny valley for human faces is infinitely more difficult than apes, and 2049 achieved that with Rachel. Human faces will forever be the holy grail of CGI so 2049 edges the win imo
the apes look like shit, you haven't seen a real ape in your life it seems. None of the scenes with the cgi apes look believable at all. Avatar was made in 2009 and looked way better than this trilogy. Weta is a great studio, but they needed more time and money for this amount of CGI apes to look just OK. Blade Runner 2049 is unbeatable just for the CGI character of Rachel.
Most photorealistic CGI ever made so far.
This and the "Christopher Robin" characters... Maan! They're so good.

Forget the apes it's the forest simulation software THAT'S what blows my mind
Trees should have won an Oscar
They've taken what they did for Avatar to whole new levels of awesome
I prefer the apes
It's made with their own in house plugins for maya. Lumberjack, procedural tree-generator, and ‘ecosystem simulator’ called Totara.

one of the best trilogies of all time

SUCH A SHAME that it didnt win the VFX OSCARS you will always have my respect like the First Jurrasic Park movie. Well done Weta, Well Done!
IKR? It was robbed.
I rewatched it couple days ago and I still think Weta Digital did a phenomenal work one of the best VFX I’ve ever seen
The trees???? Were built as an ecosystem??? Through simulation????? That is CRAZY attention to detail.
Lumberjack, Weta’s procedural tree-generator, and newer ‘ecosystem simulator’ Totara. All made with their in house plugins.
And Warner Brothers can't even properly remove a mustache ...
weta worked on justice league so yeah

Impressive, wonderful work !
I'm so ready for Batman

Funnily enough, the miniatures were made by WETA Workshop.

I'm surprised Blade Runner 2049 beat this and Andy Serkis didn't get an Oscar.
The Oscars are a 50/50 mix of popularity and virtue signaling, it's not about what films are the best by merit.
IKR? WTF? Andy at least deserves a SPECIAL Oscar at this point
How did they get the Depth in 1:25 ?
handmade masks (rotoscoping) usually.
Looks like Deep compositing in Nuke
IKR? A new and great innovation from WETA
@@ryanbarr2178 deep compositing works with deep renders from 3D software, not live action footage lol.
There are a few AI tools as well, might be enough for a scene like that.
wow
