    Hey maybe the carb loading is related to you having a bad sleep?

  • @mattlogan1
    @mattlogan1 9 месяцев назад +3

    Nice work Ari. Do you think that the high carb intake affects sleep? I had a similar experience recently after doing 800g of carbs before an ultra.

    • @DemoBallisticsCar
      @DemoBallisticsCar 9 месяцев назад +1

      To be quiet honest with you if anything it should put you into a sleep or groggy mode. So it tends to happen if for example we eat a big lunch we get sleepy towards the rest of the work day. Whereas if you eat high sugary foods you get that quick burst of energy and if your eating more sugary foods before bedtime probably will affect your sleep. But high carb foods like pasta and stuff is probably not keeping you awake at night. Maybe just excess caffeine throughout the day or nerves etc.

    • @erinhoril7217
      @erinhoril7217 9 месяцев назад

      I wondered the same. I usually do my big carb day 2 days out from the race

  • @seatownfan
    @seatownfan 9 месяцев назад +2

    Hello Ari, congratulations on your 💪🏼 finish. I was trying to understand that last part. Were you saying that you need to invest in an expensive, top end bike to really compete for the podium?

    • @archmdz
      @archmdz  9 месяцев назад +2

      Quite the opposite. I need better legs! Bike, position, equipment etc are all solid. Could save a few watts for sure but that’s not what’s keeping me off the podium.

  • @derkong7114

    LOL I hate Augusta 70.3. When you finish your car is one direction and far away, your bike is in an opposite direction and far away, and you having just finished the race realizing somehow you have to get your bike and your car together in the same location to go home and the bike transition is closed off to cars. I almost left my Tri bike and just crawled to my car to go home....

    Hi Ari. Congratulations (especially on getting a WC qualification slot for Taupo 70.3 next December). I have two questions:
    1. No Ironman Florida this year? (An assumption based on your last comment ‘next up Indian Wells’); and
    2. Have you repeated that ‘one big volume week, followed by a recovery week and then 2-3 weeks of less volume-more quality’ protocol you talked about a few months ago when discussing not over-training? (IU think a follow up video would be worth watching).
    All the best. Andrew
    Ps. Are you are planning on actually coming down to Taupo, NZ and competing at 70.3 Worlds next December (now you have qualified)? If so, please let me know if you’d like to ‘winter in Australia’ afterwards (for our Aussie summer). If so, I can hook you up with some excellent swim coaches (still and open water triathlon) so that by the time you go back to the states, you should be able to swim bullshit fast and make the front pack - or at least the second - every race. Let me know.

  • @sharonb537
    @sharonb537 9 месяцев назад

    Im not familiar with triathlon - are you allowed to draft other cyclists? You made it sound like you were riding in a pack which surprised me.

    • @archmdz
      @archmdz  9 месяцев назад +1

      The rule is you have to stay 12m behind the cyclist in front of you. However, at 40kph+ there is still a significant draft to being 12m behind the rider in front of you. Even more so if youre riding behind 10 guys (even though you’re 120m behind the leading cyclist). It’s a huge advantage in these races to ride with a group than to ride solo, however it was really only me and 2-3 other guys taking turns on the front. The other 10+ guys in the group were just sitting back there conserving energy.
