In spite of Moana and Indiana Jones having minor animal appearances or playing a supporting role, they have absolutely nothing to do with the theme of Animal Kingdom. Adding Zootopia to the park does make more sense however, but they should build it somewhere else and at least try to renovate Dinoland. Maintaining the prehistoric themed element of the park seems the most logical

Moana is more about her culture than animals her home should be in EPCOT in my opinion. While I still prefer original theme park rides, creating a polynesian/pacific island nations pavilion in world showcase based around the film would be great, giving representation to that part of their world and their often underlooked culture. Not really sure about zootopia and Indiana Jones past magic kingdom, but there’s no doubt they don’t belong in Animal Kingdom.

@@jalapeno1119 i think the fact the magic kingdom is full also explains some of Disney more thematic inconsistent decisions. The magic kingdom was the first one and has the most liberty for themes since it was based on disneyland if you think about epcot and animal kingdom were expansions of themes already in there. I still think a moana/pacific island mini land could fit well in epcot and especially better than animal kingdom. If it was up to me i would move tomorrowland to epcot too i dont know how viable it would be but i would had build tron there for a start( and put guardians on Hollywood studios instead) and leave the magic kingdom more to the fantasyland vibe since it already has so much interested just by the castle and the classic attractions. That is also why the expansions coming to magic kingdom of all places worries me i think Hollywood studios and animal kingdom really need expansions(not rethemes there is no reason to retheme dinosaur for example)

Dinosaurs *need* to be represented in Animal Kingdom. I struggle to think of a type of animal that is a better fit for a Disney park. There's the hard science but also the romance of it, the idea of these incredible and unknowable beasts that lived for infinitely longer than humanity can even conceive. No one has ever seen a living dinosaur, nor will we ever. They're creatures of both reality AND imagination and their story conveys so much. The tragedy of a mass extinction event, the miracle of evolution, the inherent Disney-ness and nostalgia of the past.
Refurb DINOSAUR and go all in-on Dinoland's concept, blending the digsites of the American southwest with kitschy Route 66 Americana, both representative of a bygone era. I think the big problem people have with Dinoland is that, due to the opening day budget cuts, that novel concept is lost on many. It never really reached its full potential. Really going all in on immersion, creating a kinetic and engrossing dinosaur themed land would change everyone's minds, I think. I don't mind IP but just plopping Moana or Zootopia or Indiana Jones over Dinoland feels the same to me as if they put Star Wars in Spaceship Earth or Marvel in Living With the Land. It could be forced into that mold if needed, yes, but it just feels tacky and cheap compared to something with the untapped conceptual depth of Dinoland USA.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin Год назад +6

For all the defects of Dinoland, I would be quite sad if the dinosaurs went away entirely.
I always figured they felt restricted by the fact that Universal had the Jurassic Park license and if they wanted a dinosaur-themed area, they had to sidle up to that line without trespassing. But I still think it'd be cool if they had at least a few of the animatronic dinosaur figures out in the open. Justify them as having been yoinked out the past with the Time Rover technology, as was implied by Dinosaur. Maybe do an interactive storyline about the Dinosaur Institute denying that they're even there... but we know the truth.

I saw a really good suggestion from the comments on another video: Australia. This is a perfect fit, no question. Along with Asia and Africa, this brings another continent based land into the park. With the Nemo show right next by, they could merge this entire land and set the show in the Sydney Opera house. Dinosaur could or could not receive a retheme with the new area (I personally think this area could help the current theme stand out better, perhaps the CTX Facility was located in the Outback so they could excavate fossils). Most importantly, in my opinion, is that this entire land improves the park on the premise it was created from: The Animal Kingdom. I’d love to see a video if you have any thoughts on this

They COULD possibly make Moana/Zootopia work, but I really don't think they would bother. Joe Rhode is gone, and he was pretty much the last bastion of keeping Animal Kingdom's original message alive. Disney seems more concerned with putting popular IPs into parks to get people to visit rather than make fitting additions- look at their plans for the Magic Kingdom. Other than the Villains Land being something people actually want (and also a broad theme that fits with the other lands being broad themes), they want to just put popular IPs into their own lands because they just want more people to come to the parks (which doesn't make sense with how crowded the parks already are tbh)
Moana and Zootopia really don't fit with Animal Kingdom beyond surface level ideas, and trying to make them work with Animal Kingdom is a tall order that I don't have faith they'll pull off. None of the Moana attractions look like they have anything to do with animals- a boat skin of Dumbo and Moana's Splash Mountain don't scream "animals" to me. Zootopia at least has more animals, but it's movie is all about human issues. I'd prefer they just keep Dinoland USA and, if they're getting rid of Dinorama, expand the original theme of the dinosaur dig site for the Institute.

My favorite WDW park is Animal Kingdom, and to be honest, I'm a bit scare for its future. The amount of care and detail that's gone into the park is staggering and the message really does shine through. The Dinoland USA part really shattered my vibe and it needs help, and I think adding new rides and majorly retheming the land to something that matches the rest of the park's quality would elevate the park to new heights. But Disney's relentless push for IP over cohesion doesn't inspire me with very much confidence. They don't seem to have any sort of vision for their parks and instead only seem capable of mining their own IPs for ideas.
My idea is to retheme it to like a fossil dig site in South America or something. That way you would tie into the world thing but keep the dinosaurs represented. Then add a banger new e-ticket, give the theater right there a new show, add a walking trail or exhibit with dinosaur fossils or something, and majorly refurbish Dinosaur to make it less 90s feeling. Or really anything, just so long as it fits the theme of the park and matches the quality.

Then they can have South American animals on a walking trail and could even bring in UP and Encanto IP.

But if Disney announced tomorrow they will be making an entire ride for a movie that hasn't come out yet. People would be getting their pitchforks. At least Moana has had a few years to be looked upon very well and became a commercial success. Something Dinosaur didn't have.

I personally think Dinoland USA is good and should just be improved however I think the most important thing is to add attractions. At the end of this the number of attractions should increase! Its crazy that they may simply retheme a ride and think they have done something. Its just a way to do "something" to excite people while spending the least amount of money possible. Meanwhile universal is building whole new rides and lands in a fraction of the time.

Then save dinosaur keep chester an heasters theme with the bone yard...just add a few dino themed flat rides maybe even a dino themed fun house in the back... Go all in on the dino carnaval theme... then put zootpia behind coco in mk instead of encanto an villains..i feel like encanto would be better as a new pavilion in Epcot...i also think villians would be better as a 5th gate.

I think if Disney were to replace Dinosaur then they would keep the same ride system and re theme it to Zootopia. People are forgetting that Shanghai Disneyland are opening a Zootopia themed land and ride with a very similar ride system to Dinosaur and Indiana Jones in California. So it would make sense if that was what they chose as the re theme.
However if they were to keep Dinosaur and possibly refurbish the pre show and some of the ride then I think building a whole new Zootopia ride type would be better. There is a big lake at the back of where Primeval Whirl was that could be removed and that area could be used for the show building and just in front of that there could be some small space kept for shops/restaurant to have it as a full on Zootopia land rather than just the ride itself.

As @SonicSnail95 said, Disney Imagineering should go all in on DinoLand's concept. I think we should also add some things to DinoLand. Here's what I'd like to see:
    1. Make the Triceratops in TriceratopSpin different colors. There's sixteen Triceratops vehicles, right? So how about making four of them blue, four of them orange, four of them a random color (maybe pink?), and the last four the original color.
    2. Add a television to one of the rooms at Restaurantosaurus and play different non-Universal dinosaur shows, specifically "Dinosaurs," "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger," "Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger," "Dino Ranch," and "Gigantosaurus."
    3. Maybe make Dino-Rama an indoor attraction instead of outdoors. Make it a place for guests to cool off.
    4. Replace all the Disney crap with actual dinosaur merch at Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures!

Here's the thing: remember that big creature you were gonna be able to get rides on in Galaxy's Edge? That big, dinosaur-like creature? It doesn't actually make sense in Galaxy's Edge - not enough throughput unless you fill a whole street with beasts, which doesn't make sense, and the hordes of people who want to ride would just be standing around... but you don't have those problems if you take it to AK and make a _dinosaur petting zoo._ Have a whole grip of free-standing, rideable dinos and a few free-standing-or-not pettable ones.
This would be anything but cheap, but no one else would have anything like it. And I think Disney could, at least possibly, nail this one.

I really thought the Zootopia thing was taking over Dinosaur, like the Jeeps would be themed to police cars and you'd be going on a chase through the city. But looking at your map comparisons, geographically that doesn't work. I also didn't notice the retaining of restaurantosaurus, so them cramming 3 different themes into that land seems very likely.
I PERSONALLY would like to see zootopia put over where the train goes since at the moment there's basically nothing there. Making it its own little secluded urban area you have to take a train to get to seems good. I dunno how planet watch could fit in there but it's disney, they could figure something out.

In a more off topic, tangential note, I really wish strange world would of done better so we could get some rep for it in animal kingdom. It's tough to be a bug is aging pretty bad and takes place underground beneath a giant plant, so re-themeing that to a strange world show would of been a really good fit. The queue would snake through bone marrow and then the theater would be done up like the windy valley. The show itself could of been about basic biology or body systems or whatever with the immune system attacking at some point instead of Hopper.

Just gonna spitball what the best idea would be, personally I think they should replace The Seas with a Moana Attraction, that way World Nature matches, and take the C&H Dinorama and transform that area into an "Australia" land to go along with Africa and Asia! You then have the two attractions be the spinner, and the big new attraction be crushes coaster! Just saying.... Then you get to keep Dinosaur, you get to have cohesion, and we get a great attraction and refurbs to both Epcot and AK. Two birds one stone :))
