While it may seem simple and boring, it's important to learn how to play good time with a click. Sometimes you can program and even feel the eight or sixteen note sub-division but it's important to also practice with just the quarter note click. Learning to space your notes properly are very important. It does not necessarily also have to be perfect as the feel may be a little ahead or a little behind the beat. What is important is to keep the feeling without sounding stiff, rushed or dragging. Here is a clip of some of my recent click practice, playing simple time as well as some more complex fills with the idea of staying relaxed. Give it a try. The time spent will pay off. Groove On! R
