I fed a feral cat every day without fail for 6 years. I never pressured him, got very close when picking chicken breast apart for him, but he never let me in. I just figured he had his reasons, quite rude to me, but still a good boy and well deserving, 2 cans of wet food per night. One night he just quit coming. I still watch for him... But no. God bless you little buddy wherever you are.

Literally the same thing happened to my Mom. He would just hang out on her porch they didn’t touch but he would meow to greet her. There was a Coyote seen very close to us, and shortly after that it stopped coming around she was/is hurt.

My feral showed up, super skinny, even emaciated. I left food for it and it took two weeks if him eating on my back porch everyday until he finally allowed me to pet it. However, that first day Milo let me pet him, he was already sleeping at the foot of my bed that night. I still kept him outside until I got him fixed because of spraying though.

We adopted a feral kitten a few years ago. She had never been touched by a human, was terrified of us and frankly we were terrified of her. We brought her home, she escaped and lived in the floorboards of our house for a while feasting on mice. We had to get a live trap to trap her, then I built a large cage for her. I used a long extended spoon to feed her, little by little shortening the spoon, then feeding her and petting her with a padded stick at the same time. It took months. Finally I wore rose gardening gloves and managed to swaddle her in a towel and we would "practice snuggling" a couple times a day...after about six months she got to like us. She still runs away if she hears any voice other than mine or my son's. She is now very snuggly and affectionate and is snuggled beside me as I write this.

My cat is feral cat, born in the streets of miami beach, i met her when she was approx 1 yr old, she was living at the garden in front of office, very sick, semiwild with infected eye, (she is black cat), started to fed her and she got boxes to play, made her bed so after awhile she let me pet her, she was waiting for me, when the door of the office was open she sneak in to look for me, and after 2 years she jump on my lap and fall sleep, so i know it its the time to take her to vet and then home.i was choosen.and its been 2.5 years now,she is living with me and from street cat she become perfect indoor house cat.i love her so much ♡♡♡

my cat was feral, i found her behind a dumpster all alone covered in fleas and ticks. i took her to a vet who told me she was feral but at the time i didnt realize how much work i had in store for me. it took me about 6-7 months to get her to trust me enough to come inside the house. 11 years later, shes my bestest friend i ever had and she sleeps under my blankies next to me at night. she is also a black cat. she still has an issue with scratching strangers but she stopped biting and being so overly scared of humans. thank you for making this video, it means a lot to me!

Shame.......Boo asked you to come inside and you didn't pay him any attention, the patio already belonged to Hydrox and he was very patient letting you acclimate Boo, but you didn't listen. Boo was forced to go back to whatever he was dealing with before he came to your patio. I noticed I spent all day watching and then nothing no ending. Before you play with cats lives like that you should have gotten in touch with Mr Jaskson or somebody for some advise on cat communication. I don't know anything and I heard what he was going you. Hydrox was a big cat and there is a certain amount of courtesy between cats they follow. You teased Boo and then threw him away cause you didn't know what you were doing.

He’s so beautiful. Notice his hyper attention and wariness as he eats. The streets and outdoors are so tough for feral cats. So dangerous. My heart breaks for them. Have socialized many ferals, and adopted them out or given them a permanent indoor home if the wanted to live with me. One of my friends is laying on my feet right now, as I type this. His name is Pepper. When he showed up on my porch in the middle of winter, he had been shot in the head with a bb, was consumed with an upper respiratory infection, and his eyes were glued shut from cold. It turned out too that he was actually partially blind from the shot to the head (who could be so cruel 😢). He was dreadfully skinny, been beat up, and in bad shape. I don’t know how because he couldn’t see, but somehow he found his way to one of my heated cat shelters I leave out in winter for ferals who need a place to survive in. He was also not socialized, probably never lived with people. I fed him, gave him medicine, dewormer, flea and tick treatment, and nursed him back to health, all without touching him. I earned his trust for three months, using food and consistent movements, calm and gentle voice and approach, and not encroaching on his space. Just sitting near him while he ate. Then finally, I very gently started to pet him on the head. He jumped a little (not use to touch) but then would look at me, and come back over. Little by little, he started to seek out love and affection. So by the time spring was nearing, he was climbing all over me when I sat down. Nestling in my hair, bunting on my chin, getting in my lap and on my shoulders, purring and purring. Just the sweetest boy. One day, during a storm I opened the door on my porch AND HE RAN RIGHT IN 😂Got up on the couch with me and nestled up to me, purring, and fell asleep. Like he’d lived in a house his whole life. Got him fixed, all his shots, litter trained him (he is so good, never once messed on the floor), and now he’s an inside cat, and still loves affection and to play. His very bad, painful, scary life and dire situation is no more. Now his life is good. Filled with love and safety, food, warmth, play and even cat friends. He follows me everywhere in the house, sleeps with me every night. He’s an awesome cat. Has never scratched, bit or hissed or growled at me or anyone else. Not even the vet. He gets along with my other two cats wonderfully now, and is just an awesome boy. Don’t know how he did it, but I’m so thankful he found my shelter when he did. He would not have survived otherwise. And he’s so wonderful and brings so much joy, if ever a cat deserved a chance, he did. Love him so much ♥️😻🥰

It’s called Terramycin ointment. Works great. Can be ordered on Amazon. It does require application through touch so it’s not something that can be used prior to being able to touch the cat. Good luck and you are an angel to the cats you so lovingly help. World needs more people like you. ❤️

Thank you for caring for Boo. I had a nice experience with cats too. A stray cat kept staying at the front porch of my house when I went home to my country last year during quarantine. Was very surprised how friendly she was to me , I gave her a name Miming and she just came up to me in a.very short time and rubbed and curled herself to my legs. She was so skinny she allowed me to pet her, so I fed her from then she kept coming back everyday and every time I call her she just run straight towards me. As of today she lives in my house now, her weight improved and received all attention and love which she deserves.

I have taken in, fostered and found good homes for 27 ferals over the last 8 years. All are still with their happy owners and doing great. I was able to get all but 3 to come to me and crawl onto my lap and be petted within a week. I think it might have taken longer if I had any cats at the time. I worked with one cat at a time and all were adopted by people with no cats. Most cats seem to be solitary and prefer it that way if not raised with siblings. I feel like Boo was deterred by Hydrox and why it took so long to make him comfortable. I think feral cat's no. 1 enemy is other cats.

I would be comfortable in telling you that these are things that you should not be trying to learn from your patients or clients, hopefully you can find some parent figures to teach you. We are never to old to learn those important things that your parents failed to teach you, being a doctor it seems that you are teachable. My wife took in a feral cat (kitten) Smokie, from the Ravinscraig when it closed. He was wild, grey/silver ringed tail, stunning, he ended up one of the biggest cats I have ever seen.Had his own agenda loved hunting rabbits, used to watch him chase them down the road out side our house.Fond memories still miss him after 20 years.

Could you advise me please? a bitten, broken male wild country cat( probably adult) was visiting me( the garden) during the summer in my cabin in the countryside and I fed him regularly, but he was mewawing at me constangly looking for attention even when he was full. he even bit me and scratched my leg once, from behind, trying to get my attention. I'm about to go back to the city and I wonder if it's a bad idea to take him with me, get him vaccinated( he was drooling a bit lately) but is it a bad idea? he's not a kitten and has gotten used to the wild life. possibly. he was trying pretty hard to get inside and I'm sure he'd prefer the inside to the outside. But I am afraid of getting bitten and scratched. and I live on the 6th floor ( huge balcony, but... could he jump?) I felt we had a bond with that cat and he would stop mewawing to listen to me sing or talk to him. but is moving him to the city dangerous for him( or /and me?)

Hello I absolutely love ALL the tips you've been giving. I had a colony of cats where I moved too. I live in the City of PHILADELPHIA. Very rough place for cats. I called the PSPCA. I had 14 cats in total that I trapped! My Landlord was so helpful. They helped me with making shelters and food. So it's been 7yrs and I have 4 that live here. I'm starting to see about 3 that are coming in the yard to finish the leftover food. You are so right they eat alot being outside. Great haul from dollar tree. I get the mats. I get my food from there. I want to tell you that your a Great Cat Mom.

I had a cat like boo. For some reason he would try to eat the other cats food even though he had his own just like you fed him. When I separated them he was so angry because he couldn't eat the other cats food that he'd run off growling until he got over it. It takes a tremendous amount of patience.
He became very territorial if he got into the house, once showing his teeth, he ran into the house uninvited.
    You're doing a wonderful job.

I didn't think I would watch the whole thing when I saw how long it was, but I got invested in seeing if the cats ever made it into the house. I had to get up and do a few things, but I kept it running, so I could listen to it, then sat and watched it while I made Christmas teddy bears. Can't wait to see the next part!

I love watching a feral cat realize it's safe. Food is your best tool, and what a gift when they finally rub against your ankles! Tuna is a great first food, they can smell it from far away, and will always come investigate because hunger gets the best of them! I only use tuna at first, maybe twice. After they realize that I am a source of good, then any food will do (but healthy food, not the dry crap from the grocery store.

I just saw this video about Boo, new subscriber! Your patience is inspiring. I live in California, and what I always try to communicate to people is, as much as the food, they need fresh water. Bowls for the birds, the squirrels, the feral cats and even for the coyotes. Keep them clean, fill them often. It's a tough life to live in such an urban area. 🌺

    • @edie4321

Please don't feed the coyotes! Please! People do that at my apartments, and it's made our home unsafe. Coyotes scowl our complex in search of food, and also kill all our cats/pets. They are "WILD" animals. You should never feed wild animals. This is why the cats are called "feral" instead. The coyotes will kill your pets if you forget to feed them.

They have lost their lives in one way or another, but I have given them a home until they lived no longer. Strays are born because people don't spay or neuter their animals. It is a kindness of some of our hearts to help most of them. There are places that will spay/neuter for free or pay a portion of the fee. Animal control spays/neuters them BEFORE they find them homes!!!!! Keep helping when you can because they need help so bad. XXXOOO to you, Judie

I do a lot of work with outdoor ferals. We have a huge group around our town and we feed many different colonies . Somehow I ended up as the official trapper, and have managed to trap hundreds of cats and kittens to get them altered for free. The kittens all get socialized & placed. Many times these cats have once belonged to someone, and although they become somewhat feral over time, with love and care they usually will revert back to that previous state & can be placed in homes. I feel like you're a little black kitty, Boo, may have been someone's pet at one time . The cats born outdoors, which have never been handled, don't often tame enough to place, from my experience.
I just want to say you do a marvelous job with these cats and I can see the sensitivity you put in toward not only feeding but making them feel welcome and at home.. God bless!

Such a great documentary piece! Loved it, watched the whole thing. Your dedication, patience and respect towards and with this cat is heartwarming and impressive. I recently discovered a (thankfully TNRed) little colony of six outdoor cats being fed by a man at his huge outdoor storage area. For a few months now, I’ve been feeding them a little every other day. Some of them are quite friendly running up to me when I call them, 2-3 are rubbing against my leg and accepting pets. Other seem more shy but all of them eat the food while I sit close to them. I am already thinking about adopting the two most friendly cats, trying to introduce them to my home, since the owner/man feeding them suggested it. This video gave me some new ideas. Thank you!
On a side note, I thought the commentary was pleasant to listen to because it was so precise, calm and to the point. And it was nice reading the success stories here about the other feral to friendly journeys.

We established a routine where the cat came in the morning and slept all day I a bedroom. However, he insisted on going out at nights, even in the cold winter. Last Saturday, the cat showed up not putting weight on a rear leg. Refused to get into a trap. I haven't seen him in 5 days and I fear the worst. Broken-hearted.
