    Thanks for talking Jonsered. I have 3 - 2166’s and a 2188. 15 jonsereds total. I love them.
    Oshkosh, Wi here is big Stihl territory, a lot of brainwashed Stihl only people..
    Me and a few other tree guys run jonsered in my area.
    The 2166 is the best modern day mid-large saw ever made in my opinion. Best power, size, bar size option, all around saw. Too bad husky shut Jonny down. I agree with your chassis, and powerband comments on these saws. They are just right for working saws. No show, just great saws.

      I was told that series of saws were the last ones totally made by Jonsered, I have the 2055 Turbo, as you know they have the clamshell crank case (splits horizontally). Some people say that design is more prone to leakage, but i cannot see the rationale of that. One thing for sure, it has lightning throttle response and revs to 14K.

    That's a nice 2165! I am currently rebuilding one of my 372 x-torque saws. I share the same experience on the exhaust timing, especially when running the stock limited coil, the first x-torque I ported I went with 98 deg. It wanted more rpm than the limited ignition would allow, I ended up buying an unlimited coil for it. While a screamer and awesome limbing saw 101-102 degrees has made for an easier to tune saw with more pull with a 28" bar for felling and the saw starts real nice with the blue limited coil. The OEM 51.4mm top end builds that Walt did on his channel look to be the most ideal for the x-torque saws, I wish Husqvarna still sold them, I'd love to build one with that top end. Glad you are feeling better Tinman.

      @230e4 Год назад

      @@jameswilson322 Yes I have seen them on there. They are good saws and unless you can find a very low hour oe 372 the brand new ones are the ones to buy, I really like mine :). They come with the blue limited coil, have the newest stronger cases, and depending on the build date a Gilardoni cylinder instead of Mahle like most of the current Huskies. My experience purchasing used rebuilt oe 372s on ebay has not been good. In the current market of available new saws in the world today I would consider the new version oe 372 and the Stihl MS462, or MS461. I favor the 372 because of the fuel & oil caps and I like the Husqvarna full wrap handle over the Stihl 3/4 wrap. The 462 is nice and light and more like a Husky than the 461. They are all great saws.

    Grew up on those jonsereds in the 80s and used some from the early 90s. Can't remember them all but it seems like we had 630s and maybe 670? Something in the 800s and the 930. Cut a lot of firewood and some logging with them. The big saws had to sometimes split logs that wouldn't fit on the woodmizer. I have a 2255 for around the house. Runs good for what it is.

    Hey Tinman...how are you Brother? I am so pleased to hear your opinion on this saw, I bought one of these a couple of years ago for $150 CDN and I am very impressed with it. The saw starts easy, it has a 24" bar and it runs very strong in the wood I cut (Doug Fir, Birch, Maple, White Spruce. I would say it is used more often than any of my other (good) saws. I have to admit Jonsereds are my favourite saws and I have run quite a few...535 (I bought in 1987), 621 (built like a tank), 2055 Turbo, CS2045S, CS2252 Pro (52cc screamer), 670 Champ, vintage 90 (the compression scares me) and a CS2186 Turbo. Just when I thought I had enough Jonny Reds I picked up a very clean 2171 two days ago (I have been looking for one of these for about 2 years). As yet I have not had time to run the 2171. Do you run your 2171 stock? To conclude, i am a 'Jonny Red' fan, but I also like my two Sachs Dolmars (120Si 68cc) and 45M6. Keep up the good work, stay safe, WS in beutiful BC, Canada.

    @Tinman’s saws I’m pretty sure that’s the first Johnny Red big saw I ever sold in the early 2000’s. I had taken on being a Jonsered dealer as a side line and knew nothing about saws nor had any interest in them at the time.(Threw away piles of old vintage saws 😢 lol)
    Anyway, the guy who bought it was an oilfield survey guy and I remember it had the heated handle and he was so darn happy with that saw.
    The J-reds seem to be more popular anywhere East of here especially Ontario where as here and farther west seemed to be Husqvarna country.
    I tried to find specs on that saw but CCC didn’t have it listed unless I missed something.
    They were nicer lookjng saws than the Husky Orange in my opinion and the “turbo” name added 10hp I’m sure lol

    Try de-strato on that xtorq before anything else. Go 100-102 on the exhaust and cut the piston to give 78 intake. Cut the strato channels out of the intake boot, remove the dividers in the carb and intake. Blend the strato ports on the cylinder so more goes into the bottom end and a decent muffler mod. They go well then 👍 might as well remove the transfer dividers to make it into a 372 as well.

      Hi Richard, I have built some that way. The pistons have held up real well in my production logging saws. I have not had an issue with them using alot of fuel like Fabz speaks of, but I have also run Stihls along time:). I am still on the fence about whether it is better to remove the divider in the carb or not though. What has your experience been with doing so?

    Get the 2171 two-piece top cover.

      @@redcanoe14 Really... though not surprising... Dang swedes... lol. I think it's because of the engine size, nothing more.
      Probably the same as the 365s has a low top, but the 371 has the high top. Both completely interchangeable. Same crankcase, bolts, ignition, flywheel...etc... just 48mm bore vs 50mm (or 51.4mm).
      Everything else is identical.
      When you get into the 2172/372xt things change a bit. So fitment may be an issue. But....?

Careful BTW, those 372/2171's are addicting. AND no idea why, the XT carb blended to the OE's works really well once you beat the clearance issues because the XT's walbro is longer :)

It seems to me when I get my saws tuned optimally, that sound is a bit more pronounced. It's the best. Like and electric drill whine, from a distance I guess is what it sounds like.

    Hi Tinman, Nice video. Wondering if you could help me out with some info...i have a Jonsered 2165 Turbo too, just rebuilt the carb and replaced fuel lines, but i'm going out of my mind trying to get the trigger and safety spring back on the handle...i've no idea where the spring engages with the trigger! Can easily see where the spring attaches to the safety, and see the groove on the left hand side of the trigger throttle cam, but don't know how to attach to the trigger itself. Any advice would be appreciated, a video clip would be great!

    • @andysears5552
      @andysears5552 Год назад

      Trial and error showed the way! The spring locates into the trigger by hooking into a small recess at the front right side of the throttle cable cam wheel on the trigger. You have to hold the spring tilted to the left 90 degrees, feed it under the plastic protrusion molded into the left side of the saw's handle (inside the handle where the safety trigger goes), there is a small channel built into the left side of the throttle cable cam wheel, slide the spring end along this channel until the front area of the cam is reached (nearest the saw engine), then the really fiddly bit is trying to locate the hooked end of the spring into the small trigger recess, not on, but on the right of the cam wheel (not on the cam wheel)...really fiddly to get it right, took me hours!
