I have tried 3 different adapters to connect my 2021 16"MacBook Pro to a 30" Cinema Display. Running Monterey 12.4 with a M1 max chip. They all work fine for about 10 minutes then begin flashing on and off or, in one case, just stay dark. The adapters are all Dual Link and I have tried one with HCDP on and one with HCDP off. I'd appreciate any solution if you get the new MBP and get it working with the ACD.
Hi, Mark, I was able to pair my 24" Apple Cinema Display with my new M3 MacBook Pro. It works fine as a display, but the camera doesn't work. It does pair with my iPhone, but that becomes a tricky balancing act and it does not do so consistently. When I called Apple, they told me the display is not compatible with the MacBook. I know that is at least partly untrue. Is there a workaround for the camera? Many thanks.

Hard to say mate. I don’t have a 30 inch to know first hand how it works. There should be some indication of power I would assume but maybe it needs to be fully plugged in all ports for full power cycle.

If your using a M1 Max why don't you just use the HDMI? Hi Mark, any thoughts on a connecting the new M1 MacBook Pro to a 30" Cinema Display...?
Thought about it, still haven’t pulled the trigger, kind of hoping apple drops a more affordable monitor in the new year. This one is actually making do for now.
Hello Mark, did you try to connect a MBP 2021 to a Cinema Display 30 inch? does it work? which adapters are needed?
It should work they’re all the same DVI connector so that would be a more modern solution to this that’s for sure
MBP MI Pro with 30" Cinema Display. I've tried two different adapters so far (Club and Starling) and neither was able to connect correctly. Both worked fine for a bit then started flashing on and off.
Hello sir I got offed me 3 of the displays all the cinna displays but he only has power cords for 2 of them ARE THEY WORTH BUYING FOR 300 FOR ALL 3 ????
Hi, I have the same 30" apple display and the same adapter.
First I couldn't set it to the right resolution . Only 1280x 800 or less was available. Then I found Switchesx that allowed me to choose the right resolution for the screen . It works...BUT I have a short lag of maybe one sec every 10-15 sec when using the mouse.
Even on the Retina display from the MacBook. When I disconnect the 30" screen it's gone..
What am I doing wrong?
Hmmm, that’s very curious. Are you on PC or Mac?
@@MarkHoltze I have a MacBook Pro 2019 :(
@@dbabendreyer People say you have to hold down the Option Key when you select "Scaled" in the Display system preferences to see the full resolution options. I have the HDCP-OFF iClub version and the resolution was right from the moment I first booted my Mac, I went into the scaling anyway without holding the option key and the full resolution was available (and, already selected and being used).
@@MagnumDB Was stuck and have been looking for hours for this comment. Thank you!!
Hi Mark
You didn't answer my query how to focus sharp from view finder with manually with these vintage lens
I made a video on how to mail manual focus. It’s really a matter of using the camera aides, practice and eyes lol. Hard to be more specific than that mate, just need to try for yourself beyond that.
Hope to god my TDM iMac works with this laptop, thankfully seems like my 23” Cinema Display will at least..
I love my 30 inch connected to my M1 And the best part? I bought it for £80!
✊
The 30" is the only way to go...
I’m having trouble finding consistent info… anyone know if I can connect my current model (2022) iPad Pro to a Cinema Display? I’m finding mixed messages. Thanks!
Got a kind a weird situation, so I got two macbook pro, one is A2141, year 2021, the other one A1707, year 2017, try to connect a 24” cinema HD display to both, using a type-c to Dvi adaptor, the 2017 one work fine but the 2021 one didnt work, anyone know what is going on? Do I need to buy another adaptor like in the video for the 2021 macbook pro?
Yes, you need a thunderbolt 3 to type C. Basically what I’m using in this video.
I have a question. I have a 30 inch apple cinema my brother in law gave me. We plugged it in, and it didnt do anything. No power light or anything. Does it need a video signal in order to work, or is my Cinema Monitor ded?
Hard to say mate. I don’t have a 30 inch to know first hand how it works. There should be some indication of power I would assume but maybe it needs to be fully plugged in all ports for full power cycle.
@@MarkHoltze So i figured it out. It needs 5 volts from pin 14 on the DVI cable. I plugged the power, the DVI, the Firewire, and the USB into my pc, and it didnt work. I had heard things about the usb or the firewire being the issue, so i unplugged both and it worked!
Oh nice!! Glad you figured it out mate I wouldn’t have been able to easily test that! Enjoy that 30!
So which lens did you use to make this video? Was it a new lens or a vintage one? Do tell.
Contax Zeiss. 35, 21 and 60
Macro. Always shoot everything on old lenses always. ;) I own one canon 24 1.4 L EF lens and that’s it. ;)
Only 17! ✨
Does the display works even when the macbook is closed ?
You can set that up so it works like that similar to how it works with modern monitors
If your using a M1 Max why don't you just use the HDMI? I got 2 of the 20" models (I believe) today from work and simply plugged them into the wall and then plugged the HDMI into my M1 Max and it worked as it should. No adapters at all. There is a mess of cables with that box that comes with it, not sure if it is standard so if not then I guess I lucked out
Watching on my 30 Cinema hd
THANK YOU ! - Can I do this with a 2022 APPLECARE+ FOR 13-INCH MACBOOK PRO (M2) ?
The camera at the final…with an anamorphic lens????
The one on the screen? Yes
@@MarkHoltze next video?
younger generation dont know this model so you can sell this monitor as a new one limited hidden edition to some young enthuziast for 1500 $ :) because it still look amazing as a part of the newest line product in 2024
You’re not wrong! 😆
I think this person is overlooking the value of the anti-glare screen.
It’s implied ;) doesn’t need to be stated as that would be inefficient use of words to point out the obvious ;) ✊
@@MarkHoltze - My brutha.
If there was one thing i got from this video it was this:
$6,000 just for a F'ing monitor! FFS
Wow, talking more than 3 minutes about an adapter. You can do it!
You can do it in less as chapters exist with specifics. I’ve left the control in your hands so YOU can do it. You’re welcome ;)
You could've done a better job of cleaning the monitor before making this video
I could have; but I like my tech lived in. And this monitor has been lived in for many, many years.
you didn't explain anything
I explained everything, if you do that, it works, if you can’t follow along that’s not on me. Some level of critical thinking and personal accountability is required. 😊
