- I might be going out on a limb here, but I am assuming that at least 37% of you have at least heard of this new pigment, Yin Min, in the news or from a friend. It’s a new PIGMENT (not just a color) that was discovered, by accident, back in 2009. Yin Min is only recently getting some attention now, only because a few people have gotten their hands on some to try. And since I got my hands on some, I thought I’d share the experience.
By the way- don’t eat paint, regardless of what bad jokes I make! Хобби

i realize I am kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Killian Aldo Flixportal :)
@Harley Braylon Thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) Appreciate it !!
@Killian Aldo You are welcome =)
That's my dad who discovered this pigment!!
How cool is that! Thanks for watching :-)
Wow!!!
You can tell him that it's an incredibly wonderful discovery and color/pigment! It just needs, IMHO, a name worthy of it. Not an easy order, but YInMn blue just doesn't do it for me. Trouble is I like the color so much that I'll most likely be disappointed with what someone decides to call it ("Oregon blue" leaves me flat). I would probably make up a lovely sounding word.
Nice joke m8 liked it
@ Brisa Chavez What joke? The guy who discovered the pigment is called Mas Subramanian, so Arthi is indeed his daughter.
I would try it if it can be formulated for watercolour..it's exciting to discover new pigments that can be used for alot of applications...ahhhhh science I just want to hug it..have a great weekend!
This is actually a question I asked Steven at Matisse. When it becomes commercially available, he said he didn't see any reason it couldn't be used for any medium.
I get the first free sample!!! ;)
New pigments are great. I remember how excited I was when I first "discovered" the bright, pure orange and red pyrroles!
I can't wait to see the sort of greens it makes!
Y (ttrium) In (dium) Mn (manganese) , element symbols straight off the periodic table of elements.
3 years later and I finally have my hands on some YInMn blue, mines I got from golden acrylics. It’s sooo nice!
Nah
Excellent video Michael! As a big fan of cobalt and blues in general it is exciting for this new blue to come out! Looks really nice.
What's that you say?? A new blue pigment??? This really is a BFD and I can't wait to try it out. There will *never* be too many blues!
Love Art Chemistry; you did a decent job explaining this new(2009) pigment! This is a lot like our four newly added Periodic Table elements!! ;-)
Keep making these vids, and "merci!"
Your videos crack me up. Honestly. Never miss em. Thanks.
Thanks for this video! I've been curious about the new blue. A big plus is the humor while I'm drinking my coffee.
Darn! I want this new pigment bad enough to create an instagram account!
Thank for sure all your info videos with flare! Definitely holds my attention and sinks in!
Are you sure that was Alizarin Crimson you mixed there to make purple? Looks more like Cadmium red or Scarlet red to me.
Yes, unfortunately our cameras (as great as they are) really struggle with showing some colors accurately, which for a video like this means we have to do our best to make sure we are showing the blues as true as possible. It does make the red look a lot more orange than it actually is.
ah, got it. :)
No way that’s alizarin crimson
This is AWSOME! Blue is my dominant color in paintings, and I couldn't be happier to see a new blue pigment!
Don't you listen to The Art Sherpa? DONT EAT PAINT!
I am really excited, my favourite colour is ultramarine blue especially the one from lápiz lazuli and they can also chemically make it, but it often becomes way darker combined with the medium. So I'm super excited because this colour seems super similar and also looks like it does not become darker, it is less harmful to the environment and hopefully it will be affordable in the future.
So cool, something new! So much fun learning about it from you. New blue! hehehe!
Mike, I love your videos!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful new
pigment with us. I have seen you fight with purple on so many videos,
may I offer a suggestion for your purple problem. Have you tried mixing
magenta instead of red? Think CYMK. There is no 'red' cartridge in your
printer, but you can print both red and purple. (The secret is that red
is not a primary color, magenta is) Mix Magenta and your favorite pure
blue and you get lovely pure purples every-time.
Now I want to see YInMn blue mixed with the Pinkest Pink paint.
So cool! Thanks for reviewing the new pigment.
This is the first I've ever heard of Yin Min blue. ;)
*LOL!* this is a fun video. =)
It's a nice colour. =) And it WAS worth making a video about. =)
Cool Darth Vader! ;)
I'm gonna try putting it on the painted parts of my bike. I can get ahold of the raw pigment even though the U.S. manufacturers won't send it to you unless you are a commercial operation. Hope it doesn't interfere with the acrylic-urethane base coat resin.
I did not know about this at all! Thank you for the information! Can wait for it to be available. Love all your videos!
Artificial ultramarine was a surprise discovery too. Much more common ingredients, though, and long enough ago that it wasn’t well understood for quite some time.
Thanks for sharing! 😀
I totally share your enthusiasm over this.
Still very expensive after 5 years, and way too close to Ultramarine to be really distinct.
I want! I want! pleeeeaassse... 😆 Great video Mike.
It's so pretty! It could be 10 years before I get to try it but I will lol
This blue is similar to French Ultramarine, and it's more than $40 for a half pan from A. Gallo. What's the BFD indeed!
Just saw a post about this color now being available and this was at the top of my YT search
8^)
Always willing to try something new, particularly a new pigment, I can't wait to play with it.
I have this pigment in watercolor via A Gallo out of Italy. Love it!
I would love to try it,it's pretty exciting to have a new pigment, tfs
It's very exciting. I will try it when it is in watercolor or house paint.
ooooooo, what a loverly purple colour!!!
yes, it excites me too. yes, i want it and could use that blue for sure!
Oregon blue... Im excited I love new pigments and colors
I would try it if it's not too expensive and available in acrylic!
I'd love to try out Yin Min once it becomes available. I have a bit of a color problem over here, and that's a nice blue...
Great vid. Would love to see something on an even less commercially available pigment - vantablack. And what blacks that are commercially available that might achieve the deepest optical appearance of darkness. No, I'm not a goth.
Oh I would LOVE to see a vantablack pigment omg
you will never get it. look it up as to why
if you add it to a binding agent itd mess up the asorbity
I don't know if I would try it, I use watercolors and I really hate working with opaque pigments, sooo ... But it's a beautiful hue ! Great video :).
Like any pigment, when used in a watercolor it would still be "transparent," but would behave more like a cadmium watercolor, rather than a cobalt. If that makes any sense at all!
Of course, I see what you mean, and that was actually my point : I hate
cadmiums ! But I love blue pigments so we will see, maybe I won't be
able to resist buying it !
was your shirt inside out? truly an artist 😆
Hear me out. What if I painted a car with YIn Mn blue?
Brilliant idea. Ultramarine may be close.
I hope it will be good for skies and water. I'm a watercolorist and would love to try something new if I can afford it.
Still not available in oil that I can find. this is July 2024.
I have two blues. Light blue, dark blue. Kthnks
I'm a little concerned about drying time in oil but otherwise I'm excited about this
Looks yummy!
Heck yes. Get me some soon
Absolutely!
So is this commercially available yet??
Living in the desert, I find that he most fascinating aspect is it's ability to stay 10 degrees cooler than regular blue pain. That could add up FAST on a power bill.
How much they gunna charge to paint a house..rediculas
It’s available now, lol…still expensive! I got mine from a. Gallo
My heart wants it!!!!!
Awesome
always learn from u!
Where's Bob Ross the second at
I need it!!!
This would make a great tattoo pigment
i will try it
Oregon Blue
Its a new hue
whyyyyyy would you do this? mix a highly stable pigment with probably one of the most instable pigment......what's wrong with you?
I WANNA SEE EM
As of my posting you can order I from Kremer pigments at about 70 for 10 grams
Cccooooooolll!
I need it ;)
I need it
I need a link for instagram
I love watching your videos but I have to say, I cringe at how wasteful you are with good quality paints I only dream of touching. 😅
I know what you mean. It's kind of a Catch-22. Some times I squeeze out smaller quantities, but then it's harder for people to see on camera.
When 😭😭😭 I need (lmao)
Isnt it a cool color...
