    Worked at McKenzies in high school….best job. We could sample anything we wanted.

      The Butter Milk Drops were so awesome, the old fashioned powdered jelly donuts and the turtles were like no other. I live in Houston TX now, but I do miss the days of growing up in New Orleans and my mawmaw taking me to McKenzies.

      The Showbiz name may be gone, but the old Showbiz in the New Orleans area (in Metairie) is still open as a Chuck E Cheese's today!

    Sometimes it feels so long ago, sometimes like only yesterday. But those were good days. 1/2 gal of K & B ice cream for $1.89... you can't get much anything for that $ now. It was good ice cream too. At least we still have the Cafe Du Monde and Central Grocery

      Did you ever try the SPUMONI ice cream flavor from K&B?

    Is McKenzie's not around anymore? If not, when did the close the stores?

    • @daveheel
      @daveheel 7 лет назад +2

      no. apparently it was sold in 2000 and went bankrupt the following year. i grew up with mckenzie's. their baked goods were good and affordable. i especially liked their simple no-filling king cakes, their donuts, pound cakes, coconut cakes. maybe sales were down and that was the reason for the sale and eventual bankruptcy.

      I believe they were shut down due to health code violations. Tastee bought their recipes and sells stuff like buttermilk drops, king cakes, blackout cakes, etc.
