  • Matt, Hector, and I backpacked up to Henninger Flats to camp out above Los Angeles. If you get a chance check out the museum on site as well.
    The trail will pass right by Eaton Falls, which is a great side trip!

    Great trip... Awesome views, I'd like to make it to this campground. Great job on the tour, lots to see. Can't beat the fire wood already split for you. Thanks for sharing, take care Jason.

    Just like I’m watching Huell Howser Show, great content in here. I can’t wait to bring my family there as an educational trip. Isn’t that a Cherry Blossom tree?

      Thanks for the Huell compliment! Would be another great spot to bring the boys backpacking. I don't think they were a cherry tree, but it did look similar.

    I guess in SoCal especially in the LA area ya gotta be thankful they even let you do a fire... not a bad spot to post up for the night though. Well done sir

    I'm sl jealous Jason. This is one of the two places I try to bring our scouts to every year. I use to show a video on the history of the Mt. Lowe railway in the museum. The views are incredible. You made me relive it. Thanks for sharing. By the way, on days where the fog rolls in it's incredible to watch it roll over LA and move into San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  5 лет назад

    Awesome!! I gotta check out all the conifers up there! The LA views are legit, and so are the views of all those trees planted up there! They look so lush for being at such a low elevation!

      I wonder if there are any Pacific Douglas-Firs (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii) planted there. I saw a cone of one displayed in the pine cone case display on the video!

    Wow, I already had this marked on my Google maps as a place I wanted to visit, great job with this video, Matt and Hector are great guys to kick up some dirt with. Those benches are just crazy, I would wanna cowboy camp right on them. Could those trees be in the Cherry family?

    I’m planning to do my first ever backpacking trip here. Where do you store the food at night ? Is there any need for bear canisters ?

    • @HuckOutdoors

      You hang it from the trees or store in one of the wooden food lockers there.

    Cool Place to visit. Gets busy on the weekends but amazing views!
    Best sites are up in the Middle camp area. But there was a homeless guy living up there for quite awhile in a make shift Tent and he'd harass people camping in the middle camp area. I don't understand why the rangers hadn't kicked him out! Hopefully they have by now.
    Were the bathrooms open? Last time I was there they were closed.

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  5 лет назад

      I believe the homeless guy was gone. When we got there and checked in, the ranger set us up in the lower camp.

    • @rgvkid250
      @rgvkid250 5 лет назад

      Awesome! I wish they added floor fire pits! That would make it perfect with those views at night!
      How cold did it get?

      I know the guy you are talking about! He through a rock at me on a random weeknight when I was pretty much alone up there… he kept creeping on me all night…finally had to threaten him within an ounce of his life to make him go away! This is the problem when camping too close tot he city i find. Bummer! Rangers need to step up, but apparently they can’t do all that much.
