I absolutely LOVE this video! I want to visit the Channel Islands so badly; someday I will get there. It's on my bucket list. Those island foxes are just too cute. They don't look like they miss any meals!
Wow! That place is awesome. I’ll have to plan a trip there. I assume there was a water supply at camp? The dolphins were insane. Great footage. Cute little foxes, too.
And a good time was had by all. In the intro, when you showed us and our names, I thought you were going to tell us the name of the island fox that was hanging out at our campsite. LOL
6:02 - What exactly is at that Navy Base? Is it an underground base? Do they allow visitors to explore the west side of the Island? Isn't there a mountain there called Mt. Diablo or something like that?
Now that was a great trip. A pod of Dolphins - very humbling. Very happy for all of you that took this trip. Very touching moments for me. I still think you all need to try surfing...
Dolphins :D That's a welcome committee! Was 2 nights, 3 days enough to see what you wanted to see? Love the music. Gorgeous hikes. Nice campground. Interesting explanation on the eagle population. Such a beautiful park! Thank you for taking us along :)
WOW this is nice..cool dolphins, aND WHAT A HIKE! 14:20 what is that thing running across the trail? ... Great Views all through the video.. Excellent shots of the fox!
Nice display from the dolphins! Just visited S. Cruz Island last week. Docked at Scorpion. Clear footage. Trying to figure out your camera set-up. Looks like a GP on a gimbal for the forward shots and a standard camera (cell phone?) for the face narrations?? And what is that clip called that attached the gimbal to your backpack strap? Great idea! Thanks!
Did you go for just the day at Santa Cruz? Any wildlife on the way over? I use a GoPro Hero 5 with the Karma Grip for forward shots. And when i'm talking it is a GoPro Hero 4+ Silver with External Mic. Also all photos are usually taken on my Samsung S7. I sometimes unclip the Karma from my pack as well. Here is a link to a similar clip: www.amazon.com/Sametop-Backpack-Strap-Session-Cameras/dp/B01BSE454S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529683138&sr=8-3&keywords=gopro+clip
I definitely wanna go hiking on the Channel Islands as well as paddleboard around there. It’s sad I’ve lived in California my whole life and only heard of the Channel Islands back in 2018/19. Question on the Santa Cruz Island is hammock camping capable? Or would you recommend tent. Also is there enough service to check the weather and tide and map areas on the phone while out there?
That was awesome! Was that the same fox or were there just a ton of foxes? The whole trip looked great, but the dolphins may have been my favorite part.
Thank you! Heading over to Santa Cruz Memorial Day for three nights. Quickie question: if you hiked by Del Norte Backcountry Campground, how long did the ten miles to Scorpion Ranch take you? Thanks!
Yes, a quickie. Out of Scorpion about noon, then return about 10:00 the next morning. Added this as an option. Double-booked w/Scorpion in case some (or all) decide not to go... BUT "3/4 day" for the ten miles? Wow! Maybe I'll rethink! Need to be back to pack and board the boat by 4:00. Thanks! @@HuckOutdoors
Hi! Jason. I am planning to go there is March. I made a reservation at Del norte campground and there are no water. Is there anything else that I should know or prepare before I heading there? Thank you in advance🤗
How long did it take for you to hike from prisoners to scorpion in one day? I'm planning to arrive at prisoner at 11am and hike to scorpion on the same day. Do you think i can make it before sunset?
I just watched your video, do you know what the deal is with the small community in the middle of the island? Google Maps reads it as Skunk Point. It looks very secluded almost like a retreat or resort.
Hey Brian, Don't remember the mileage, but here were the trails: Day 1 - Prisoners Harbor to Scorpion Campground. Day 2 - Time Spent around camp and hiking to Cavern Point. Day 3 - Hike to Smugglers Cove.
I absolutely LOVE this video! I want to visit the Channel Islands so badly; someday I will get there. It's on my bucket list. Those island foxes are just too cute. They don't look like they miss any meals!
You'll love it there! So peaceful and relaxing!

Wow! That place is awesome. I’ll have to plan a trip there. I assume there was a water supply at camp? The dolphins were insane. Great footage. Cute little foxes, too.
You'll love it there! There was potable water at the camp we were at.
Very Nice!
Thanks!

Shoot I had a feeling i missed something!
There sure are a lot of Fox on that island!
6:02 - What exactly is at that Navy Base? Is it an underground base? Do they allow visitors to explore the west side of the Island? Isn't there a mountain there called Mt. Diablo or something like that?
Not sure what's all at the old base.
Wow what an amazing awesome time on the island so beautiful awesome trip

Wow, super cool! Love the foxes and the great scenery

I still think you all need to try surfing...
One day I need to try it out! Can't believe i've never gone surfing!
You guys have the best adventures!Another great video Jason! The scenery is Beautiful!
The are we were camping at is under a marina refuge, so no fishing there. :(
Woo! That looked fun! Day 1 looked tough too! Awesome views and those foxes are so cool. Don’t seem to be afraid of humans at all! Great editing too!
Day 1 was a tough one in that heat!
Dolphins :D That's a welcome committee! Was 2 nights, 3 days enough to see what you wanted to see? Love the music. Gorgeous hikes. Nice campground. Interesting explanation on the eagle population. Such a beautiful park! Thank you for taking us along :)
It was enough time for everything we wanted to see. Thanks for watching!

I don't remember what the cell service was when we went. There were a few sites that could have been hammock friendly.
Need to show how much Water to bring, how to cook with little water, these are part of the fun
There is water at the campsite.
That was awesome! Was that the same fox or were there just a ton of foxes? The whole trip looked great, but the dolphins may have been my favorite part.
There was about 3-4 different foxes in camp! The dolphins were amazing!
I wanna see bloopers !!!! 🤣
LOL! They didnt come out. Camera was all smudgy on the lense
Such a beautiful island, can you pitch tent near shore.
No, just at the designated camp sites.
How much water did you initially carry for yourself and was that carry enough?
May have been 3 Liters. I do not remember now.
Thank you! Heading over to Santa Cruz Memorial Day for three nights.
Quickie question: if you hiked by Del Norte Backcountry Campground, how long did the ten miles to Scorpion Ranch take you?
Thanks!
Are you staying at Del Norte one night? It was a 3/4 Day trek as we got started later and the sun was brutal that day!
Thanks!

Hi! Jason.
I am planning to go there is March.
I made a reservation at Del norte campground and there are no water.
Is there anything else that I should know or prepare before I heading there?
Thank you in advance🤗
We were more focused on the scorpion side, but at Del Norte you will have some great views. Be sure to bring extra water there.
@@HuckOutdoors thank you, Huck outdoor:)😍👍
How long did it take for you to hike from prisoners to scorpion in one day? I'm planning to arrive at prisoner at 11am and hike to scorpion on the same day. Do you think i can make it before sunset?
Brian, it was an all day hike. That would be tough to do before Sunset. There is no water along the rout either.
I just watched your video, do you know what the deal is with the small community in the middle of the island? Google Maps reads it as Skunk Point. It looks very secluded almost like a retreat or resort.
It may be a research center.
@@HuckOutdoors I see. There is another small housing community further north of the island near an air strip too. Thanks for the reply.
There is also some navy buildings too
Can you list the trails you hiked each day and the mileage? Thanks
Hey Brian,
Don't remember the mileage, but here were the trails:
Day 1 - Prisoners Harbor to Scorpion Campground.
Day 2 - Time Spent around camp and hiking to Cavern Point.
Day 3 - Hike to Smugglers Cove.
What was the nighttime temperature?
It was probably in the 50's.
