    I had a 6 centimeter long and tightly wrapped Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication successfully completed 20 years ago that still works perfectly today. But, my surgeon never explained that the reflux materials "partially inflate" and "swell" the fundal wrap surrounding the esophageal junction to "clamp shut" access to the esophagus. Thank you for solving a 20 year mystery!!!!!

      Is it still working?

    • @FatManDoubleZero
      @FatManDoubleZero 2 года назад +3

      @@andrewsmith3257 Yes, it still works great. I had the surgery in July of 1998. The only "trade off" is that I must "chew" thoroughly and have a drink of water to "wash down" my food. But I don/t mind this because I never get "heartburn" or acid reflux. In my opinion, the "short-floppy" version of the Nissen Fundoplication is CRAP because the length of the wrap is too short (about 2 centimeters long). The "short wraps" are the ones that don't last a "Life-Time." Life is full of TRADE-OFFs. I suffered through 4.5 months of "difficulty swallowing food (dysphasia)" in return for accepting a TIGHTER, LONGER, AND MORE DURABLE "WRAP" that would not "fall apart" if I had a "bout" of vomiting. After the first year, my swallowing of food got better. After 7 years post surgery, my swallowing was pretty much normal again.

      How are you now

    • @FatManDoubleZero
      @FatManDoubleZero Год назад

      @@jinimaneesh1409 My now 26 year old Nissen Fundoplication has continuously STOOD THE TEST OF TIME AND FUNCTIONED PERFECTLY. I never once had to again deal with acid reflux (GERD). A year ago, I briefly "jammed-up" my esophagus by "too fast" gulping down a thick peanut butter and Swiss-Cheese-on-rye-bread-sandwich; without a glass of water as a "chaser." I have to occasionally "remind myself" about my very strong and tight NISSEN WRAP DESIGN and take smaller bites of food, then "wash down everything" with a drink. This is, however, a very small price to pay for 100 percent freedom from taking "medications" that would negate my stomach's ability to "extract" vitamins and nutrients from my food. If I had to make the same decision now, as to whether I would have the "same exact surgery performed," my answer would be a resounding YES, CERTAINLY, WITHOUT HESITATION.

    I had a NISSEN done when I was 8 when I started not being able to eat or keep anything down because of my severe acid reflux and according to my specialist it was “eating my esophagus” . They almost didn’t let me because of how small I was but I am so glad they did because I don’t have any problems with reflux now, other than the pain of having to make sure it is still in place once in a while and eat slower everything else has been amazing

    Also the surgeon put a feeding tube in, he said to hold the stomach down. He left it there for 6 weeks. I was never fed through it, just the rolled tube hung there. While still in the hosp, my stomach swelled and popped some of the staples. The holes drained for 4 more months.

    I had this surgery in aug 2013. I am now 70 years old. The surgeon said the stomach wouldn't stay down with the laparoscopic. He cut me from breast bone to belly button. I had diareah from day one. I was in a skilled nursing facility for 3 weeks. I still can't eat most sugar, candy, pastries, dairy. Anything processed. No beef or pork. I get a gas pain so bad I have to lay down. I never never eat out. I have learned to eat correctly. I know carbs are not good for anyone, so I don't touch. But eating in a restaurant I always get pain then diareah. I went back one of the visits, Ask dr why, he said you have one of the biggest hiatal hernias I have seen. I said, I thought you fixed that, he said I repaired the eshhagieal hernia. Will I ever be normal! I eat, salt free crackers, applesauce, rice, chicken. No pain. Everything else pain. And my stomach gurgles so loud whatever I eat, so loud my dogs bark at it. Is another surgeon just a waste of time? My daughter works at Salem Regional Hosp. With Dr Kolosi. She thinks he can fix me? I'm scared. My life is like a prison.

    Is it possible for the stomach wrap to come apart after some years, for example if you're dry heaving? If that happens, can this create a medical emergency. or will things just settle down with the reflux returning? Thanks for a well done video.

      dizzy in the dessert It has a 90 percent rate of succses rate but over weight people have more problems because that weight puts a lot of stress in that area.
