The 2 bulbs are plugged in but when the light switch is turned to on it does not light up. So no power going to bulb. There was no issue with the previous screw in bulbs
this may be a dumb question but.............if you have these all over your house, do you have to leave the light switches "ON" all the time?? it seems easier to just flip the switch on than OHHH hold on let me use my smart phone to turn the lights on..... i mean i like these but im confused.
Although you're right, I'd suppose youd take use of the scheduling on it. And me having one of these, I'd much rather use my phone then to get up and turn it on or off. Were always on our phones these days so it's pretty quick.
I don't know about anyone else, but I always have my phone with me. Therefore, I always have my light controller with me. You can certainly turn them on and off using light switches, but remember that these are Wi-Fi devices and therefore will not be on and ready to function if they are off. Even when you send a command to turn the lights off, they are still consuming 0.5W in order to always be ready for the next command.
I've been having trouble with some bulbs dropping connection to my network, so I bought a Wifi extender. My bulbs were originally set up to connect to my network's name Home_2.4GHz. The extender's network name is Home_2.4GHz_EXT. This is my first experience with an extender. My question is, will the LIFX bulbs automatically connect to the extender (and its network name), or do I have to do setup again for all the bulbs, but specify the extender's network name?
Ok so my light bulbs colors stopped working such as I don’t have green, yellow, or icy blue any more...green gets replaced by blue and yellow stays red (orange does too) and icy blue remains blue. Any way u can help?
I have an issue with the google mini not staying connected to my lifx bulbs consistently. I have to fight with it to turn lights on or off. I'm getting to the point where I am going to throw out the whole works.
Thank you for all your amazing content! It's all so helpful. For these lights, to use them on a ceiling fan would each light bulb be added individually or would they synch together from the getco once they are screwed in and turned on? I ask since if you turn on the light switch all the light come on rather than once at a time lol. I hope that made sense 😅
@@TechWithBrett oh ok, I'll do that. Do you have any thoughts about the gosund LED RGB smart bulbs? I like the idea of bit needing a hub and just using WiFi for connect them, and then just add them to my Google home. These LIFX are awesome, but a bit out of budget for me 😅 Thanks again for all the help!!
I have a question. I'm going to put 2 bulbs in my ceiling light. If i put my lights off from the wall switch and i put a schedule fror ex. 6AM will they still light up though they are put off from my wall switch?
Only if it's a smart wi-fi switch. A traditional switch cuts power to the lights so there's no way for them to turn on. They won't even be connected to your wi-fi anymore. You keep the wall switch on at all times and use the app/voice assistant/schedule to turn the lights off and on. It can be difficult to break yourself of the habit of hitting a light switch when you enter or leave a room. You can buy various covers or guards that will stop you from being able to accidentally turn the switch off by habit.
I already have one of the lifx mini bulbs that is connected to my phone and to the app. I am having trouble connecting a second light to my network + phone + app. When I hit add Lite it pulls up my first light that I already have set up. I have even taken that light out of the socket so that it should only hopefully read the second brand new light. Under where it says select light it shows my first light then it just keeps spinning as if it's trying to search for a light. I have no idea why this is not working but it would be nice if there's a better way to connect a second light to my account.
Hi. I have some smart plugs that work on the 5Ghz and some smart lightbulbs that work on the 2.4Ghz. My router has both signals. They all work for a while but then just go offline all at the same time. The way to fix it is to turn off and then on the router. They will work again for a couple of hours and then go offline again. Can you help me with this matter? Thank you!
I have a a 19 bulb and I haven't been able to reconnect it since I updated my internet got new router that's all I can think . Always worked great. now I reset the bulb maybe 20 times and try to reconnect and it doesn't work. Very irritating this bulb was like $90 Canadian I change my internet and can't reconnect
These always need to be set up on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. I think getting a new router means your lights will have to be set up again as though they are new since it's a completely different router.
App keeps saying "Location services disabled." I have location servoces enabled and full access permissions given to Lifx app. I can see ny lifx bulb in the list to add, but the the pop-up "Location services disabled" will just not go away. Hopefully, there is a fix because I won't be buying anymore lifx bulbs if I can't add them to any smaet features.
Yes, because they are being controlled via the internet (more or less). So regardless if you are in the same room or on the other side of the world, all control goes to the cloud and then to your router via the internet, and then to your lights via Wi-Fi.
Can you control the lights in more than one phone? Like can my wife have the app on her phone as well and as long as we are signed in the same account can we both control them?
Hey Julie, sorry you are having an issue. Did you try the factory reset option that I showed? If it continues to be an issue I would reach out to LIFX for replacement.
@@TechWithBrett thank you I did - I have reset the bulbs so many times it's given me a headache. I've emailed the company :-( Surely if one bulb can connect they all will? I reconnected the first two and they are now working but that's as far as I can get with them.
Can you merge 2 groups together to create a 3rd group? For example, we have a great room that contains both the living room and kitchen. I want to separate the living room lights from the kitchen to have 2 separate areas, but also want those two areas to be 1 sometimes. Do I need to give commands to two separate groups to match each other’s condition or can I make a 3rd group called great room that has both the kitchen and living room groups? Or can I assign 1 light to 2 different groups at the same time?
Can you make a Police effect blinking the blue and red colors theme without changing the colors manually? I would want to do this just in case I want to make a panic scene in case of emergency.
Bluetooth has reduced range and performance compared to WiFi, and many devices take issue with being actively paired to more than a few devices at any 1 time. Bluetooth also restricts control to a single smart device, whereas multiple devices can control via WiFi. There's not really any good reasons to go with bluetooth over WiFi for static in-home devices like these
I have the Mini. I go to the area with the little color circles and I can't find the 100% White setting. There needs to be a totally 100% White circle at the top. There needs to be an option where you can turn the light on and play music from your phone whether it is on your device or from an app such as Spotify or Radio.com app etc. It would be nice if you could download for Free from the app different themes such as lets say I want the light to change from any certain color such as Red to Green and it repeat. Or I could make the light turn on Red then go to Purple then to a total 100% Yellow then I can make the light turn on Green and stay on for a longer time or less of a time. If I could set it up so if I am trying to find that color to relax your eyes at night to get your sleep pattern back to a good one this would be helpful. I saw some plugs along with the display and was hesitant to purchase them because I didn't know If I could operate multiple devices until watching this video.
That's the way LEDs are in general. CFLs flicker too. Even incandescent lights flicker, but their flicker is much less of a strobe and more of a super fast and smooth dim/bright flicker because it's a 60 Hz flicker with a burning metal filament.
CaLxRoyalty Sorry it didn't cover your issues. I had problems connecting and doing the factory reset and making sure I connected to the 2.4Ghz network fix my issues. What else is happening?
Hey, i was having trouble too. Nothing seemed to work. I uninstalled the app. Reinstalled it and bam! worked so fast. Its so stupid that i had to do that but it worked. Have you location settings on, Don't connect to your 5g you need to be on your 2.4 and it was just about instant. hope this helps!

Will take it's time but finally worked for me. Hope this helps someone.

These are better than the Philips Hue in everyways, seriously Hue bluetooth is too dark and doesn't do anything in terms of scheduling. LifX can do better with the day-to-day scheduling. My routines on weekdays (which LifX bulb help me wake up at specific time everyday) are way different than my routines on weekends.

great video thanks brett, works well
can we revert the color to a default one in case we don't have access to the phone/app?
The 2 bulbs are plugged in but when the light switch is turned to on it does not light up. So no power going to bulb.
There was no issue with the previous screw in bulbs
On my Android phone, instead of "effects", I am getting "Palette". Any idea how I can change the effects?
Is there a way to set the bulbs so that they gradually get brighter to wake you up like an alarm clock?
Yep! The LIFX do a wonderful job at this and can change white balance as well.
this may be a dumb question but.............if you have these all over your house, do you have to leave the light switches "ON" all the time?? it seems easier to just flip the switch on than OHHH hold on let me use my smart phone to turn the lights on..... i mean i like these but im confused.
Will the bulb still work if the actual light is not turned on?
Ok so my light bulbs colors stopped working such as I don’t have green, yellow, or icy blue any more...green gets replaced by blue and yellow stays red (orange does too) and icy blue remains blue. Any way u can help?
I have an issue with the google mini not staying connected to my lifx bulbs consistently. I have to fight with it to turn lights on or off. I'm getting to the point where I am going to throw out the whole works.
Can I change the colors, turn them on/off when I'm elsewhere where I do have internet? So I can turn them off when I forgot it for example.
Yes
@@sydneyadie thx
Keeps asking for a QR code but nothing came with the bulb? Trying to just connect from IOS
I would recommend setting one up at a time, take it out and then setup up the next one. Then plug them all back in and they will work together.
@@TechWithBrett oh ok, I'll do that. Do you have any thoughts about the gosund LED RGB smart bulbs? I like the idea of bit needing a hub and just using WiFi for connect them, and then just add them to my Google home. These LIFX are awesome, but a bit out of budget for me 😅
Thanks again for all the help!!
I haven't used them but I have good things about their other devices and the reviews look good so you should be safe.
@@TechWithBrett thank you for all your help! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family 🙏😄
Set your phone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.
Thank you!
When I try to add new device, it finds the bulb and then ADD ACCESSORY pops up...and I have no clue what it wants.
Great Video
Great Video!
My bulb doesnt connect to the wifi, even after I reset it. Any help?
App keeps saying "Location services disabled." I have location servoces enabled and full access permissions given to Lifx app.
I can see ny lifx bulb in the list to add, but the the pop-up "Location services disabled" will just not go away.
Hopefully, there is a fix because I won't be buying anymore lifx bulbs if I can't add them to any smaet features.
wait does the light work off data or wifi?
without an apple homekit or another hub, can I control the light bulb when I am not at home?
Yes, because they are being controlled via the internet (more or less). So regardless if you are in the same room or on the other side of the world, all control goes to the cloud and then to your router via the internet, and then to your lights via Wi-Fi.
LIFX bulbs are so different to set up that you are almost tempted to take it back to the store 🏬
mogeking56 that’s how I felt like taking it back to the store or T-Mobile where they gave it me to try
Do these only come with big screw head ? E 27 and not E14-17
So the lifx bulb is going to take over my network? Then I get a message that will fi is not working. Alexa is not easy to set up with this bulb.
how to fix wifi issue? Bulbs do not want to connect to my wifi. I am researching already 3 days. Pls help.
Can link the direct to wifi direct to phone doesnt need wifi router at all
Can you control the lights in more than one phone? Like can my wife have the app on her phone as well and as long as we are signed in the same account can we both control them?
Yes you can!
Tech With Brett can I set an alarm. Like turn on in the morning. To help wake up?
How would this work with using one bulb on a ceiling fan?
Thanks bro
OMG I have connected two of the bulbs but the third bulb won't connect. Anybody know why please? Thanks, Julia.
You should be able to assign devices to multiple groups at one time. So great a third group with all of the speakers in one group.
The video is good but I had these bulbs for 5+ years and one of one died on me while the other turns on but no WiFi signal from the bulb
Thank you for the video.
My light bulb is in but it doesn’t allow me to use the WiFi for the actual bulb. My whole screen on the app is black but my bulb is in. What do I do?
Have you tried uninstalling the app and adding it back?
Tech With Brett I fixed it and I have no clue how but this video really helped me so thank u 😊
Can you make a Police effect blinking the blue and red colors theme without changing the colors manually? I would want to do this just in case I want to make a panic scene in case of emergency.
Is this compatible with the google home?
Yes they are! See here: ruclips.net/video/v-KTc-mz41s/видео.html
Why does WiFi have to be involved, why can’t it just be Bluetooth connnected to the app
Bluetooth has reduced range and performance compared to WiFi, and many devices take issue with being actively paired to more than a few devices at any 1 time. Bluetooth also restricts control to a single smart device, whereas multiple devices can control via WiFi. There's not really any good reasons to go with bluetooth over WiFi for static in-home devices like these
WiFi, because now you can turn the light on and off from anywhere, that means that you don’t have to be at home 🏠 to turn the light on and off
Do these bulbs work with smartthings?
automoglow Yes they do!
How do you compare these with The Sengled? I’m looking at getting some bulbs just not sure which.
Here is my full comparison: ruclips.net/video/oKd8Cv9Wd7I/видео.html
Thanks can’t decide which to get!
thank you!!!
Can't help but notice the bulb flickering at the dimmest setting 6:20. Is that just the camera out of sync with the light or what?
That's the way LEDs are in general. CFLs flicker too. Even incandescent lights flicker, but their flicker is much less of a strobe and more of a super fast and smooth dim/bright flicker because it's a 60 Hz flicker with a burning metal filament.
There is a problem with the smart lights. You cannot assign a static ip address
So cool !
Is it good for lighting my bedroom?
No
Thought u we're gonna make a video about the connection issues?? Yea dislike
I had the same issue. Not connecting, the progress bar was repeating itself just connecting to wi-fi, opening light, repeat, repeat. After reading your comment, I uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, and it finally worked.
i couldnt connect when i used the home app but then i kept trying to do it and it worked somehow.. at the beginning it said my router wasnt supported... but keep going at it guys..... you will get there
For everyone looking, was having issues on my s9, reinstall the app, click the light on and off 5x to reset it, open the app, make sure you are on airplain mode, go into your wifi (it needs to be on)and select the bulb, then go into the app and hit + light. Will take it's time but finally worked for me. Hope this helps someone.
Setting up even 1 of these bulbs was total pain in the neck, I cannot imagine people dealing with more that one of these little sh#ts. Totally not worth it, trying another brand tomorrow.
how are the lights holding up?
They are awesome! I use them daily.
Good to know. I am about to setup my Non-bluetooth Hue lights but maybe will go those to compare.
@@TechWithBrett Just got the Philips Hue (bluetooth) about an hour ago. I was way disappointed with the Hue since I thought Philips would do a better job with their app (boy was I wrong). The Hue is going back to Best Buy tomorrow.
Thanks
