You need to connect the new light through WiFi or the hub first. Then once it is working there just say the magic words so the Google Home can find it.

Search for SG and sign into your account to add your lights to Google Home.

This video really helped me tonight. Trying to add additional hive smart plugs all night and couldn't see them. This video then reminded me the sync devices command. By the way is there any way to run this via the Google home app as a menu option. Many thanks. Ps just weird how Google cant seem to find them through the normal add device option without the command being run, even though the hive hub is linked and the sockets are switched on. Very useful command though when things go out of sync

I know this is now an old post, but just wanted to add my two cents. The "sync my lights" command did not seem to work and I had the Hue light set up on the Hue app. It didn't seem to link to the Google Home via the Google Home app either. I had to un link all of my Hue lights and relink them back up and then it worked.
Tonight, I discovered what the problem was. "You have to name the Hue light, or know what the Hue app is calling it, Hue light 1, etc., or name it directly via the Hue app and then use either the Hue name or whatever you named it before doing the "sync my lights" command; and then use that name when you try to activate the new light via the Google Home. Works Great! Simple problem easy solution....like most once you get it figured out.

I have several smart color led lights from four different manufacturers. Haven't purchased a smart hub yet (I'm deciding between Google Nest, Apple Home and Amazon Alexa). One of things I want to do is have all the lights flash different colors aka party mode. Some of the manufacturer apps do this and some do not. Do one of the big three smart hubs do this? Seems like all you can do is control the color and the brightness... thanks to anyone who answers!

Yes you need to. There are ways so solve the issue, for example if I used Hue bulbs (with the Hue bridge), Samotech sells a mounting plate, to put the Hue dimmer switch over the existing dumb light switch.
Or you could just use a cover to cover off the light switch…

This will be the same process for Alexa just look for the app Skill.

Just synched up my 2 new lights to an existing hue bridge. I can turn the new lights off off but can't turn them on unless I say turn on all lights. I can say turn off sun room lights and they go off but if I say turn on the sunroom lights it says they are not set up.

If it fits a normal A19 light bulb you should have no problem.

When I click Philips hue it just loads for a bit and the says "couldn't update the setting. check your connection". I 've tried from 3 different phones and still not working. I have a bridge and a google home pod.
