His backstory is more that he stole the treasure (a future heaven bag or whats known as a human seed bag not a magical flask) from the Buddha Maitreya and became a spirit as an imitation Buddha. The fallen figure in the snow with multiple arms might be the corpse or hibernating/frozen form of a rakshasa or an asura, especially since the head looks like it's wearing a mask or crown that looks a lot like the headgear worn in a lot of illustrations of rakshasa or asura. The rock demon spirit I believe is actually a pine tree demon spirit. The pine tree in China is also known as ''Welcome Pine'', as the branches of those pine trees look like they are waving there hands to the guests. The scene in the game means the production team is welcoming players to the world of WuKong.

the ground lord seems to be helping wu kong, abd wu kong's action looks like 塑金身 to me for the ground lord. this would greatly enpower the ground lord. if you recall one of the trailer when ground lord first met wu kong, he mentioned about thing changed, people changed, no more 香火, which represent worship from their believers😅
