    I started making my dogs food when her kidneys failed in 2018. She had a bladder infection and was treated with antibiotics but they were not suitable for the strain of bacteria she had. The infection destroyed her kidneys and the vet said my only option was euthanasia. It took me about 6 weeks to turn the corner and know for sure she was going to survive. I will never feed her prepared dog food ever again. Thank God for RUclips and the internet, the information i learned saved my dogs life. I give my dog raw food which many people disagree but I give my dog raw and he is thriving. My beloved pet companion of 21 years never ate anything other than human-grade food and she lived a very long 21 years. Back 20 years ago everyone preached that "dogs must eat dog food" now it is widely known that wholesome human grade food is the best for our four-legged companions

    no salt added only means the salt wasn't added by the product maker. It's a good step but a lot of times the sodium is in the product that they use to make their mix. Just read serving size and the amount of sodium before you use it regardless of that circle that says no salt added. that does not mean salt free. you don't need the broth. Add water. the gizzards and liver make the best stock that you can get.

    I do this all the time. They love it. I make huge batches for my 2 small pups. I mix it with dry food. I freeze it flat in small freezer bags (about 7-8 month supply for me). I have used combinations of the following foods:
    Sweet potatoes, any green vegetable, carrots, inexpensive boneless fish, ground beef/chix/turkey, beef hearts, chicken gizzards, any kind of dry bean (they're so much cheaper). Can beans (I cook them down in water to soften them and to get rid of as much salt/sugar as possible), rice (brown or white), oatmeal and eggs. I don't cook the veggies, just the boil the meats and save the broth to mix in. I chopped them down with a food processor. Mix everything in a big bowl and bag it.
    This all depends on the what's on sale and my budget at that time. It has served me very well. I give them vitamins and joint health supplements as well because they are senior dogs. It saves me so much money. So many recipes out there.

    Definitely going to give this a try on my next paycheck! My dog loves the Beneful prepared meals - it’s the one with the chunks of meat, rice and veggies with a little bit of broth - but it’s $1.50+ for one little thing of it or $20 for 12 and I can’t afford to spend so much on so little. This recipe will last me at least one and a half weeks which is what I’m hoping for, maybe even two weeks if my other dog (who belongs to my mother) doesn’t try and steal his 😉
    PS. My chihuahua is roughly the same chunkiness as Prince and it’s very comforting seeing another dog as thick. When we bought him he was very overweight and it’s been 6-7 years and he’s still chunky but definitely losing some of it.

      @riddlestrange 2 года назад

      @@stacy9694 Hi Stacy, I'm sorry to hear your dog has struvites too. It can be tricky to cook for them but after trying home cooked meals, I found that he prefers simple meals, just meat, rice, and veggies. I just boil ground meat (chicken, beef, or pork) twice, discarding the broth. I steam green leafy vegetables then mix it with the meat and plain rice. I sometimes use brown or white, whichever is available.
      As for the serving, I now do combination of dog food and the home cooked meals. I just wash the dog food prior to mixing it with the home cooked meal to remove the flavouring that companies usually add. I also add water to the food to increase his water intake.
      I hope you find what works well with you and your pup. Prayers 🤗

    • @Mpearl8084
      @Mpearl8084 4 года назад

      @Cherish It just make sure you have *all* the nutrients needed for a growing puppy in your homemade food. This might call for some supplements or some superfood ingredients that will be a bit more expensive than this recipe. Dried kelp is a common superfood ingredient for dogs, and can be found on amazon. Also for your pup, I highly suggest treating it with 1-2 raw bones a week. Raw bones are easier on the tummy and they don't break into shards or splinter as much. They are also fantastic for cleaning your pups teeth; tearing the muscle on the bone flosses their teeth and the bone marrow help scrape away plaque 👌
