To you, being in England, this tournament may seem like an elevated series of friendlies, but to these teams it means a lot. It's driving the Mexicans absolute mad. They have traditionally been the stronger team and not only have the never lifted this silverware and the US has done it 3 times in a row. Ad, on top of that, Mexico hasn't beaten the UMNT in 5 years. It's a serious blow to their pride, but we have the better team now, and that's important for growing the game here.

The rivalry has been pretty even since the 1990s (USA held an edge of 16 wins-14 losses-12 draws from 1990-2019), but our results seem to outperform our talent most of those years. However, the last few years the USA is just clearly better than Mexico.

As a Chelsea fan, Pulisic was not bad for us and was by no means a flop. He was crucial to our champions league victory and was unfortunately hampered by injury and inconsistent management/playtime. I feel like so many players "flop" in the premier league because teams do not give their players a chance to settle in and thrive and just splash the cash for the next big player because "the grass is always greener". A prime example being Nottingham forest, they have like 50 players and look at them now in the relegation zone. They got Gio Reyna on loan and haven't even used him. I hate forest for not giving Andrey Santos a minute of playtime during his loan but they're over here starting bums like Jonjo Shelvey. Like why did you even go for him? They play a counterattacking high pressing style with no flow in possession but get tempo setting guys like Andrey Santos and Gio Reyna. How idiotic, they don't even know what profiles they are signing. And then it convices the novice fans that these players are bad when it's simply player profiles not matching the system and mismanagement to the highest degree.

You could not be more correct on all points. Your last one especially - Really frustrating at times.
Pulisic, Reyna, and McKennie all good examples.
McKennie didn’t perform well for Leeds, but the whole team was dire and went through 4 managers in the 5 months he was there on loan. Fans assume he’s crap, or can’t handle the PL, then goes on to star at Juventus.
Same thing with Pulisic. Bin him off for Mudryk, Sterling and Madueke, and now CP has got something like 20 goal contributions this year already.
Patience is not a virtue that PL teams can afford sadly. And it ends up being a detriment to the club and the players

@@chuckwaardenburg496 Adu had great technique, but he never grew physically and didn't have the quickness that other small top level players have used to compensate for this. I doubt this will be a problem in the case of Sullivan who is already a good size for his age and judging by his older brother (a first team player for Philadelphia), should end up at a decent size. Plus Sullivan is quite fast and more suited to the English game than Adu ever would have been.

Copa America is coming up this summer, it will feature the top 6 in CONCACAF and CONMEBOL in the USA.
I think you are talking about Freddy Adu (Benfica). But there have been plenty of over-hyped Americans that fizzled out in Europe and never really became the player promised. Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal) comes to mind as another huge hyped player that fizzled out. Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jose Altidore (AZ Alkmaar, Sunderland) also come to mind. Nations League is actually taken pretty seriously now for a variety of reasons, but this one involved qualification for Copa America so it DEFINITELY was being taken seriously. That is why the Canada vs Trinidad game was being talked about so much as it had qualification ramifications on the line. Not only that but the Mexico vs America international rivalry is getting pretty heated now, Mexico has been on the losing end for quite a while now while the game is still relatively niche in the US so that has been a pretty big blow to their pride and this can be seen in fan behavior at the events becoming more rowdy and discontent etc.

Caven Sullivan is the person they signed and he's only 14 (turns 15 in September). Your City scouts stated he was the best 14 year old in the world. As a Union fan I REALLY wish we'd get to see him play for the top team along side his brother Quinn. He just played for Union2, their lower team, which is mostly 17 year olds and up. People around the Union have been hyping him up since he was 10. He SHOULD make the US 26 World Cup team. Just hope he doesn't burn out like Adu. Highlight video link below for your enjoyment.

CONCACAF has about 40 or so member federations so CONCACAF acts pretty much like the English tier system.
There is the group where the US and Mexico are where they skip most of the qualifiers and go straight to the group stage of the main event. The bottom teams drop a level for the next cycle and play in the B qualifiers. The top qualifiers in B qualifiers go up to the A stage and the bottom of B go down once again to the C area. There's a bunch of other levels as well but they aren't important enough to mention.
Same goes with qualifications for the World Cup.
Hope this gives you a better understanding of CONCACAF

I know the Euros is a much tougher competition, but this is CONCACAF's version of it. It's simply the intra-confederation tournament.
In the Jamaica game, Myles Robinson had a flick-on header off a corner kick which deflected off Jamaican forward Corey Burke (NY Red Bulls) for an own goal to tie the game in the final moments of stoppage time. Then, Haji Wright (Coventry City) scored twice in extra time for the win.

Daz says he doesn't watch Serie A, but he's absolutely sure the Prem is miles ahead. Okay then. Think Champions League proves that England has toughest league, but it's not that much better. Often players do better on another team and league because it suits their style and they have the backing of the manager more than it having anything to do with how quality the league is. If it were as simple as Daz makes it out to be, then the England team which is loaded with successful Premier League players would have won something in our lifetimes.

US vs Mexico is becoming one of the most heated international fixtures in the world. (Relax, futbol elitists - I said heated, not "best" or "most important").
And to be fair, it's mostly the Mexican fans who are bringing the flavor. The national team is suffering from the results of protectionism. LigaMX clubs, in an effort to keep their best players at home, tend to overprice potential transfer targets.
As a result, players who might otherwise benefit from playing against stronger competition, never have the opportunity.
The real drama with the American squad is the manager. He's at least as unpopular with the fans as Southgate is with English supporters. The criticism is, he's too rigid, unimaginative, and far too loyal to players who aren't good enough. He rests on the laurels of beating Mexico, without striving to take the next step.
The childish spat with Gio and Claudio Reyna did nothing for his public image.

Cavan Sullivan is one of if not the top American prospects between the age of 14-20 and is considered to be one of the top international youth players. Germany is reportedly trying to switch his allegiance from the US but it’s highly unlikely. He is 14 years old playing with the Philadelphia unions u-17s and with the USMNT U-15s. Of course he’s extremely young and talented but obviously it’s too early to tell how good he will be but I hope he does well so we could use him in a half a decade or so hahaha

The bottom 7 clubs in the PL aren't competitive with the top of the table, or even the mid-table clubs. I mean, it is "possible" for lowest 7 or so to get an occasional result against the top clubs, but it doesn't happen frequently. That lowest group of clubs in the PL can only really compete amongst themselves.

I've followed Cavan Sullivan since he was like 11 or 12. He's been hyped the best American soccer player since Pulisic. He's just entering the most crucial time of his development so its still too early if he can live up to the hype.
McKennie is a long story. He came to Leeds on loan because his teammates Aaronson and Adams + American coach Jessie Marsch were there and convinced him. The board promised they wouldn't sack Marsch and thus McKennie joined. Like 1 week after signing, Marsch gets sacked. McKennie became very angry but kept it professional despite the racist abuse from Leeds fans. After his nightmare loan was over, he went back to Juve and has been their 2nd, arguably best, player this season (according to Juve fans, I don't watch Serie A this season).
Adams has just returned after being out for 9+ months with an injury. He was only allowed to play the first half to manage his minutes.

More than anything else we do at home (developmental programs, expanded league play, etc.), US players getting deep and prolonged exposure to European football has built our competitiveness--bringing that experience back to international USMNT play and making every four years a blast.
