That fact that one of the worst Mortal Kombat games AND one of the worst DBZ games were both on the Game Boy Advance (Which is actually quite capable) really tells you just how bad the people in charge were with their decisions. Also, that comment about licensed games being rushed really stuck out to me as I can't but feel like even now (Especially with Sports Titles), that might still be the case.
Lol that dig at jump force. Nice job matt. Honestly I don’t know what’s worse. A game that’s on the GBA. The GBA had a lot of games that looked really bad on it. So taiketsu is a little excused but not really. But jumpforce has no excuse. It’s style choice was made by design not by limitation. It’s honestly insulting that jumpforce is on the same console that has fighterZ and FF7R. I despise the look of jumpforce. Playdough character models. Never again!
I played this back in the day, and I think it's the most disappointed I had been with a licensed game at the time. I remember some people defending it with "Well, it's on the GBA, so what did you expect?", to which my go-to response was always, "Yeah, you know what else is on the GBA? Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival." Granted, I know now that every game dev story is different and porting a classic game is different from making a new one from scratch, but that really doesn't make the game any better.
The "you can't criticize a game from [year] or on [system]" crowd can always be counted on to ignore how [year] or [system] had infinitely better stuff than what you're critizicing.
I'm looking forward to the day when you inevitably talk about more of the many attempts to dethrone Mortal Kombat in the gore department. Lord knows there were a _truckload_ of them.
Legacy of Goku 2 and 3 are, indeed, very good games. So props to those devs for putting the time and effort into those despite the lack of time and resources that comes with licensed games. I originally got into Dragon ball as a kid because of LOG2. I got the game as a kid, saw the characters on the cover and thought they looked really cool and kind of vaguely recalled having seen one of the characters somewhere before. Beat the game, loved it and loved the story and thought it had to have come from somewhere and not been written just for this game, and thats how I found the manga. And now im a big manga and anime fan. So Legacy of Goku 2 is what got me into anime in the first place, so knowing the same devs who made that game made this game puts a lot in perspective about how much time crunch can really hurt a games chances. But big respect to the team.
OH GOD! This game is fucking miserable! I picked this up because I was obsessed with DBZ games and FUCK! At least you can see all the content in 15 mins. Goddamn, thankfully Super Sonic Warriors came out later to be a great gba dbz fighter.
I got this game for Christmas as a kid, and I played it a lot... I beat the hell out of it with all the characters. It really sucked, but I was a Dragon Ball fan, and was really hungry for any content. Supersonic Warriors is an infinitely better game and nailed the feel of being a Z fighter
You really should try out "Battle Blaze" on SNES. I just accidentally found this "game" and I have a feeling it could be one of the worst fighting games...Scratch that... Games overall I have ever seen.
It's hilarious, I used to play this, like, a LOT, unlocked all the characters, find it unique, just because it was a dragon ball z game. And looking at this game after all these years... Dude, it's so easy to fool kids
Man, I didn't have a decent internet connection during the GBA era. I remember seeing this game in-store and thinking it looked absolutely amazing going by the box when I was younger and asking my mother for it for my birthday. By some twist of fate she accidentally got me the Buu's Fury/GT Transformation Double Pack. I wasn't disappointed as I was a huge DBZ fan anyway and holy hell, I am I glad she made that mistake looking at the game now.
Here's a dumb odd question: Would you ever try to host a fighting game tournament where each round is a different one of the games, with the championship being the worst one?
Wow Matt! That was a blast from the past. Can't believe you found all that old video. Whole thing made me cringe a lot. We seem to be the only people who like Transformation. Everybody craps on that game, but I think it's a well balanced and very fun game.
Now all we need is an episode on Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout
Why do the fighters look like they should be on an episode of robot chicken? 😂
After he said "Get out of my FUCKING time line!" i legit died of laughter
funny enough first dragon ball game I ever owned I remember spending months figuring out the codes to do sky battles and ultimates and still got my ass whooped 😂
This game was literally my first game ever, and as a dumb kid who got into video games for the first time ever? I loved it.
You should check out this obscure PS2 fighting game called 'All Star Fighters'
gotta love the character select screen that uses the same images as the LoG2 for the characters talk bubbles
"Its the settings where things get interesting" If that doesn't sound like the worst game to you I don't know what would be
11:15 but that’s exactly what the show looks like.
I played this back in the day, and I think it's the most disappointed I had been with a licensed game at the time. I remember some people defending it with "Well, it's on the GBA, so what did you expect?", to which my go-to response was always, "Yeah, you know what else is on the GBA? Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival."
Granted, I know now that every game dev story is different and porting a classic game is different from making a new one from scratch, but that really doesn't make the game any better.
The "you can't criticize a game from [year] or on [system]" crowd can always be counted on to ignore how [year] or [system] had infinitely better stuff than what you're critizicing.
And Street Fighter Alpha 3, which might have vanilla Game Boy-level sound quality but has practically everything else kept intact.
As close to a next season of TFS as we are going to get.
7:20 I think you made the game better tbh...
"GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY TIMELINE!!" is my new favorite insult.
This is one heck of an AMV: Arcade Made Violation.
This game looks like a Robot Chicken parody of DBZ.
I’m ashamed to say I unlocked all the characters in this game as a kid
I love the "side kick" every character has
I had this game!!! It made me say the phrase "god dammit!!" for the first time ♥ memories
The quality of this game was so laughable it was a kamehamehahahaha
Man, I didn't have a decent internet connection during the GBA era.
I remember seeing this game in-store and thinking it looked absolutely amazing going by the box when I was younger and asking my mother for it for my birthday.
By some twist of fate she accidentally got me the Buu's Fury/GT Transformation Double Pack. I wasn't disappointed as I was a huge DBZ fan anyway and holy hell, I am I glad she made that mistake looking at the game now.
With codes enabled, this is by far the greatest fighting ever made.
Watching the opening of this one this week was rough. I miss him!
I've not even heard of this Dragon Ball game, perhaps there's a good reason for that then? hahaha
The “Legacy of Goku” series was incredible, among the best games on the GBA in my opinion.
Someone could ROMhack Criticom to make it worse in every regard, and I'm still not sure Matt would give that version the crown.
Would it even be possible to make Criticom worse?
LET'S GOOOO in time for an upload when it first comes out, 2:16AM here in Australia, much love Matt hope you've had a swell week

Here's a dumb odd question:
Would you ever try to host a fighting game tournament where each round is a different one of the games, with the championship being the worst one?
Wow Matt! That was a blast from the past. Can't believe you found all that old video. Whole thing made me cringe a lot. It's hard to see something you worked on get torn a new asshole, even though it really deserves it. I wish you got to talk about the fire, but I know this isn't a "Wha Happun." (During the development of this game our office had a fire, and burned down. It was pretty nuts.) - Gerry
Those graphics, man! I remember that game!
That’s some interesting stuff, right there.
Did you put lines from DBZA into it? that somehow makes the game seem better?
Finally, an answer to the age-old question: "what if Rise of the Robots and ClayFighter were mashed together with the Dragon Ball IP?"
… did he really ask the abridged team to do voices for like 10 seconds of footage or was that some else? Either way, that’s funny as fuck.
I know Scott and Curt! So they were happy to do it. :)
@@MattMcMuscles that’s amazing. :)
I remember reading a review of this game on a Finnish gaming magazine Pelit back in 2004, where they gave it only 30 out of 100. As positives things they listed chocolate, black sausage and lemon juice, all completly unrelated to the game. And the cons were simply everything about the game.
Review animal crossing amiibo festival next on what happened
It was a simple cash grab to sell more amiibos. The end.
@@That_Lady_Charlie yeah pretty and I wanted to know why this was made and how it pissed off many animal crossing fans not being a main line animal crossing game for the Wii U.
GBA SP still had the best fighting game D pad I've ever used.
Try playing Bio F.R.E.A.K.S., it's a 3D fighting game, and it is absolutely horrendous
It's really not. Janky sure, but it was unique and had actual stuff you can do. It's too good for this show.
@@MattMcMuscles hmm...then how about....Dangerous Streets?
