- Suspenseful underlying biblical fantasy scene from the Robert Aldrich's film noir masterpiece adaptation of the Mickey Spillane work. I don't get any profit on this. For promoting purpose only.
Amazing sequence, refering to Pandore's box, and atomic danger. I love it.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) brought me here. Thanks, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd.
There are hints that the "contents" are nuclear in nature, unstable radioactive isotopes. The box is lead for one thing, hot, and one of the characters makes references to the Manhattan Project and Trinity, etc. It's such a creepy ending.
In case you haven't found out elsewhere ( and people seem to give stupid answers )... There were 2 nuclear rods, which had been stolen from a nuclear power facility... Whilst enclosed in the lead-lined box, perfectly safe, but, when exposed to the air, it caused a reaction, which, if the lid was left open, would cause a micro nuclear explosion... Hope this answers your question... Hence the statement... DON'T OPEN THE BOX !!!!!
One of the best movies I have ever seen..almost sci-fi in the end.
Hard to follow in places.
I have never heard of any of the actors, but whoever they were..THANK YOU!
Thanks for posting
Nick is supposed to be Greek, listen to the dialogue about him more carefully, there are a number of references to his nationality
this film was let down by a poor script..kiss me mike, kiss me ? then she shoots him at close range and he survives ..
one of the all time great sequences in one of the all time great noirs. KMD is really years ahead of its time. A STONE COLD MASTERPIECE
IMHO, one of the coolest movies ever made. They just don`t get any better than this. Aldrich was a genius.
@@brerrabbit9585 agree 100%. One of my 13 all time favorite films. I wrote a review of it. Will post it if you want.
I`d love to see it, thanks!@@willieluncheonette5843
When you watch the movie pay attention to the woman running down the highway in the opening scene. That is Cloris Leachman in her screen debut. And a different actress in this scene. "I want you to kiss me. Kiss me. The liar's kiss that says I love you but means something else." Great line.
Frau Blucher?
@@Crumphorn Yes, one and the same.
Listen to me if as I was cerberus barking with all his heads at the gates of hell. I would tell you where to take it, but don't, don't open ... the box ...
The Lighthouse made me think of this scene.
Why
Tarantino took it all.
You’d think she’d have stopped opening it once she knew there was something terrible inside.
I'll say. Maybe touching the surface of the box and feeling it as painfully hot would have clued her in that opening wasn't such a good idea. Then she starts opening and . . . yes, it would have made sense to immediately drop it. However, when a person is in shock, they often do things that are foolish so that could explain her continuing to open despite the heat.
Also, the film just needed the whole thing to get loose and kill everyone or threaten to kill everyone within its vicinity.
We happy? Vincent? We happy?
Oh yeah. We're happy!
@AntiMusick Yep, let that be a lesson: the next time the guy who shoot utters with his dying breath, 'whatever you do, don't open the box', do yourself a favor and DON'T OPEN THE BOX.
Probably the most shocking climatic scene ever made.
Ya stopped it too soon!
The best part follows right after.

Yes... The next few seconds showed her burning up literally... and, no, not like the Invaders " burning up " in a red glow...
The music has a hint of some of the scores John Williams wrote for Lost in Space a few years later
The music is often great in these old films and series.

Cloris Leachman, the girl in the beginning. Strother Martin. Albert Dekker.

The sound effect was awesome.
What a terrific Noir! ... Best 'Pandora' scene ever, ever filmed (too bad for the short video).
@RestInPeaceDecency
In this scene, apart from Ralph Meeker, you can see Gaby Rodgers as Carver (Gabrielle), quite extraordinary and very menacing---I like the way she says "Kiss me...."---and Albert Dekker, a very good and well-known actor in B movies. He even played a small part in SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER. The other dames are Marion Carr as Friday, Maxine Cooper as Velda, and Cloris Leachman in the opening shot. In the meantime you probably bought the Blu-ray (Criterion Collection), very good.
Alex Cox used it in Repo Man, too.
and Tarantino in PULP FICTION (Travolta's shining suitcase when he looks into it)
Don’t forget Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).
This is why you should never open the Box!

It is hilarious how people used to die when they got shot in old movies 😂

One of the most famous boxes in movie history. Maybe there aren't any cenobites in the box, but it certainly inspired other great movie boxes over the decades.
btw: the reason why he isn't carring a gun is: the police took his license and back then movies didn't make you belief you could just run around shooting a gun without consequences.
Only that you can drink (heavily) and drive, everybody is smoking all the time, women are (acting) stupid and are falling for the guy all the time and beeing a violent dickhead is always a good idea. ;)

To be honest, I don't actually know the casting, except Ralph Meeker that has played in "Paths of Glory" and "The Dirty Dozen". Maybe some youtubers could told us more about them later.
This movie features some of the finest character actors in the business! Wesley Addy, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, Paul Richards, Jack Lambert, Albert Dekker, and Percy Helton. Some of you out there just don't know the great actors from the classic era!

This Lady reminds me of my high school chemistry teacher for some reason...
Belle de Jour and Pulp Fiction were influenced by the 'box'.
