There is something to be said, that hindsight is 20/20. And regardless of the minimal propaganda, this excellent movie portrays a side of humanity that was experienced by many of those who came before us, in the not so distant past; The languages, the passion for love, and peace and happiness in the midst of tyranny and war. How great is the effort of this work? I can't express my gratitude for such great work. Thank you. All. ✝🛐🕊⚓🔨📖🗡💞 ✝🥊🙏 Fighting the good fight of faith.
Thematically, the film reminded me of "The Third Man," although it was not nearly in the same class as that film. (The post-war repatriation period in Europe with the four Powers must have been a harrowing time for many.) I enjoyed the movie, but I wish the sound were better; I turned captions on and off several times because I couldn't make out some of the (English language) dialog, but even the captioning couldn't understand much of the dialog. I was glad for the scenes with foreign language because the English subtitles, at least, told me what was being said.
Although somewhat slow at first, this flick gets better as it moves along into suspense by the end. If you can stand a commercial break about every 6 minutes, take a look.
Simple plot, simple action, but it shows what Hell the survivors went through trying to escape the Russians. The War never really ended for so many people. Unlike Soldiers, they couldn't just say, "It's over-let's go back home." What home, what family? Now, it's the Ukrainians' turn... 30Jul23.
What a pretty film. Not your usual kind of plot, but so believable. Yes, as others mention, the period similar to The Third Man [1948], namely the reconstruction after WWII and beginning of the Cold War. I love movies like this--complex situations, protagonists, antagonists, etc. I tried to find more about Richard Schweizer but not much notoriety in ImdB.
A good movie. Unfortunately, sound is terrible, as already said, and the shades of colour in the last half hour or so is: black on black! That's why they call them "film noir"?
I have a different view, at least about common Russians and culture. But for damn sure, they sure have a tendency to fucking fascism over there, do they not?
@danimojoe8563 Stalin, "inventor" of GULAG, i.e. the precursor of concentration camps, butchered millions of Russians, in fact, he commited so many crimes that even his Russian comrades finally had enough of it and carried out the de-Stalinization.

Seems like an excellent movie, maybe even a classic. Unfortunately, we'll never know. Sound is so bad you can't make out half the lines.
Try subtitles.
