I asked for Fesley to send me another guitar and of course they said yes! I really like the last one but will this one hold up in comparison? YEP! This brand is shaping up to be a safe bet in my book. (I don't have a book its just a common phrase)

As silly and impractical microphonic pickups may be, one of my favorite episodes of '60 Cycle Hum' is the one where you sang into the microphonic pickups at the end. It just ended up being a really solid well played bit. I still listen to the end of that video occasionally.

That first Fesley you demoed looks like an ESP I had years ago. I think I posted on that video that I got a strat kit guitar from Fesley and it was really good. Pre-finished body, nice feeling neck, shaped headstock with subtle branding. Even the composite material they used for the fingerboard looks and feels nice. The 3-tone sunburst looks great. I put a cheap eBay neck on it because those are good enough now that it makes me think twice about buying from the major parts suppliers. Got an aged yellow loaded pickguard with alnicos and pressed steel saddles. Put vintage kluson style locking tuners on it. It looks like a vintage pre-CBS Strat but with some modern conveniences.

I have realised in the past couple of years that I prefer ceramic pups on strats. I like the brighter, twangier sound and it cuts through on lead breaks. With a little dirt they really spank. But I also prefer SSS to HSS. Maybe Fesley will pop that out in the future.

    I love my fesley guitars
I have 2 fesley acoustic guitars a standard cutaway acoustic and dreadnought 12 string electric acoustic and I absolutely love both of them
I will say I did change the tuners and strings on both of them to Guyker locking tuners and D'Addario acoustic guitar strings but that was mainly for my own preference really not because I had to change them
    All in all great guitars
PS: I also got a fesley dreadnought 12 string electric acoustic guitar for a wedding gift for my friend and he hasn’t changed anything on it and he absolutely loves it and it sounds great so I can attest that even stock the 12 sting fesley acoustic guitars sound great

Great review! It's too bad that these crazy prices aren't available in Canada for the most part.
However, I did somehow find an even better deal than that. I grabbed a Donner DJC-1000S for $168CAD ($190 with tax). For reference, that's only $116USD ($132 with tax)!
Now, to be fair, the first one sent had a warped neck and I had to send it back but the second one seems to be a keeper. I stretched the strings, set the string height, set the intonation and she plays beautifully.
I also love that it's a semi-hollow with an F-hole that actually works. Acoustically, I can do a "WHA-WHA-WHA-WHA" sound with my hand over the F-hole after strumming a G-chord.
For (the equivalent of) $132USD, I truly believe that I got the best Amazon deal that any Canadian could ever hope for.

I think that the thread sealing tape is a good idea. I just spend $8 on a pack of trem bar springs and I just threw a spring in the trem screw hole, then you just screw it in and the spring gives the tension you need for it to stay where you want it. The good part is that it won’t be a mess when you need to clean out the threads from teflon tape junking up the threads.

the center spring isn't doing anything . all trim forces are transferred to the diagonal springs as they're stretched further

    • @smudge0356
      @smudge0356 8 месяцев назад +1

True! BUT that's only until they're stretched enough to allow the centre spring to take tension, then all three will act together as one. At that point the whammy bar will become harder to push. This means there is a variable spring rate built-in to the mechanism.
If you were to shorten the middle spring and lengthen the outer ones then for the first part of the travel you'd only be pushing against one spring and have a lighter action at first, stiffening up lots more as you push deeper.
By playing with different lengths, and strengths, of springs, you could precisely tune the 'whammy' to suit the way you play, for a more progressive feel you could use 'variable rate' springs.
WOW! It's almost like the inventor/designer/engineer made it like that on purpose! But if they didn't, then they're dumb and obviously should've thought about it more, rather than just 'Luck' into it! {pun intended}. 🤣🤣

Ryan, have you ever played a KAPA Continental from the 60's? They are the perfect first electric for younger smaller hands , but you can play it for life due to it's full scale neck and great sounding humbuckers. I got a used blood red Continental in 1981 from my brother for Christmas. I'd played acoustic for two years already at that point and I'd just assumed all electrics had that same ultra low action. It felt great to play, so I put thousands of hours on that guitar. It had a Jaguar type tremolo that I loved to play the strings behind the bridge and do light bends with the heel of my picking hand.

If this guitar existed when I was buying my first guitar, I would of bought one no doubt. I bought my 60's Vintera Strat MIM for $600 and this seems to be just as quality. Could of gotten a nicer amp because I was using a real cheap amp until I got my JC and your amp really makes the difference more than your guitar. I own a $200 Teisco for comparison that I run through that amp and I really can attest to those who say it's better to buy a nice amp than guitar. I really like the branding. Make's it seem like a non cheap guitar and the name Fesley sounds like a last name like a Fender. Harley Benton is the only affordable guitar brand that has that rock-able name.

Yeah but you couldn’t tell none of us that in the beginning we all thought we needed whatever guitar we wanted and we would play it through whatever we could get our hands on or rig up . My first amp was a gorilla and my step dad thought it sounded so good he bought me a used rockman off a coworker and I figured out how to run the rockman through my bookshelf stereo and he was defeated once again haha .

You said the Fesley was a great guitar. Can you compare it to a Gibson Les Paul? Is it better?

Totally different build style. I’d put them in the top of the pack with what I’ve experienced from guitars in the sub $300 price range. Slightly bellow eart and above grotes, indos, etc. I don’t typically rate things though so I’m not putting a lot of mental energy into to these comparisons lol. But yeah, if you want a traditional style Gibson build these guitars will disappoint you. But then why are you window shopping sub $200 guitars?

Interesting that they only really make 2 electric guitars. They have other names for some of the models but the only thing that seemed different was the neck and an offensive headstock. Likely to their benefit to have limited models that way they can, if they care, put more focus into them not being absolute trash.
