You can always count on Conrail, Harrison. At least you got one sorta runner out of the lot. But those Conrail blue switchers need repair and a new home on Sparky's layout.🙂 It's time for another switcher count and run around the layout once you get those working. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Can 't get enough of Harrison's restorations. Our club has some technical experts always ready to lend a hand to help getting an old model into running order, but the SMT videos are a great asset in doing all the prep work in cleaning and lubricating that is frequently all that is necessary.
Harrison, you are the man. You got 3 to spark to life. And one of the 3 is missing a wheel. They are intimidated by your skill. Great job. Great video as always.
You know i think you did really good on this lot . the fact that they show signs of running or something of that extent is actually quite good to have . i love the consistancy of the way tyco/AHM made them pretty much the same.
@@SMTMainline i honestly think you did really good though. Honestly I think the price is alright because yeah you gotta repair them but thats the fun part
Very cool lot of little switchers you got there Harrison! I found a similar RSO locomotive at the local antique shop in West Plains, Missouri yesterday, although mine is decorated for Illinois Central. Runs pretty good too, just needs a lube job from what I see. Also picked up an HO scale Lionel FA-1 as well. Motor runs pretty good but it needs new drive belts, but I think I can get it track ready again soon! Hope you can get all those new switchers riding the Rails soon!
@@ScottTice1971 actually no, there were 2 other A units, one decorated for Santa Fe like the one I have and other one at the shop was a Texas Special FA-1.
The early TYCO locomotives were not only US made, but made in my home state of New Jersey. And I was not surprised to see the center cab run, as they were the most robust of everything in your lot. And it wasn’t a bad price, except your VAT and shipping takes the fun out of it.
Great little locomotives. Just to note: They are Not 0-4-0 types since they there is no connecting drive rods. They are Plymouth DDT industrial switchers.
I got an N Life Like SD7 for peanuts once because it "doesn't run." I cleaned up the dried lube, put new grease and oil in it, and it ran fine. This is why I like to specifically look for broken units. These days people part them out and sell the components for ridiculous prices, though.
I have that very same AHM Loco. The First One. When I am finished with a few other Locos. I am going to rebuild the rails. I found some brass wire that is perfect for building new rails. I'll be replacing the horn couplers with Kadee couplers.
That crud on the bottom of the loco is deteriorated urethane foam. AHM used it for packaging until the early 70s. It became the bane of owners as it ended up all over locos kept in their original boxes. BTW, these are not 0-4-0s despite so many wrongly calling them that. They would be D-D types. 0-4-0 is a type with rod connected drivers and neither a leading or following wheel. Keep up the fun posts.
Who would have thought that this lot of 6 switchers would generate so many negative comments. You obviously enjoy what you do and most of us enjoy watching you do it. Ignore the nay sayers and keep on doing what you do.
Reading lines was merged into conrail in 1976 and Reading and northern was formed in the 80s and still runs to day of the former reading New Jersey central and lehigh valley
These little industrial switchers are really cool. Although, they aren’t truly HO because the switchers are REALLY small! The Conrail Center Cab is the most interesting. It would be interesting if someone produced an accurately scaled model. Perhaps, fitting a motor and drive into such a small space is an undesired challenge..🤷🏻♂️
another great buy, i'm sure you'll get them running in no time. my favorite is the conrail center cab, they just seem interesting with the cab in the center. here's something for everyone reading the comments: which do you think smt has more of, 0-4-0 switchers or F units?
I had a friend many years ago who actually was able to modify the Tyco units to run on his S scale layout. He was able to modify the axles and get the width. They looked great in S scale.
HO scale switchers locomotives DC. Small engines of railway yard and industrial zone. N scale switchers locomotives DC for factorys in industrial zone, garage and workshop.
i have a theory as to where the saw dust came from i think they had some hoppers and put saw dust in them then it went on the tracks and then. stuck to the switcher
@@radar9167 if it’s a tyco than try to clean and lube it with some sort of hobby oil. ( You can find it at hobby shops, just ask the employees ) if it doesn’t run after you clean it and lube it, than you have a problem.

I appreciate your comment. I don't really get why people get upset over stuff which isn't their responsibility but that's their choice.
The first Conrail reminded me of the EMD G16 (Kennedy) for no reason, the G16 and ČKD are my favourites.
Cool, looking forward to a video or videos on how to get these running.

Reading and Conrail used to be based in Reading, Conrail was purchased by and are now under the banner of Norfolk Southern and CSX.
Ehhhh a couple switchers to add to the layout nice additions
