I carry a fixed blade with me everywhere I go. I also carry an army 7 model occasionally in place of my multi tool. I'm thinking bladeless is a good idea.
A flat fork or some kind of spoon utensils would be great , Opinel did it in a clever way . It opens up a possible thick double layer tool as well. Im sure Victorianox could also do this. Hope your keeping well, god bless 🙏.
It's surprising that they have cards targeted towards certain things like nail care, but not specifically the knives. Jetsetter would be perfect with a file, or maybe have a version of the Tinker with flat needlenose pliers, magnifying glass to pair with the tweezers like in the swiss champ, combine it with an LED light or some form of foldable vice for holding small things. Lots of opportunities
This would be awesome. A complete mini technician's toolkit in a single compact unit, able to travel on planes and legal everywhere in the world. Sign me up!
The Companion model Victorinox used for limited editions such as the Xmas, Paris and NY model has a special parcel opener that would pass most airport laws.
Amazon still has Huntsman's for $33. That is crazy and still why SAK's are the best bang for the buck , QC and best warranty in the business. Still blowing minds after all these years and the ladies love em and aren't afraid of them
I will buy a Victorinox Swiss army “tool” without a blade. As long as I can get it through airport/ TSA security, in my carry on. I need a TSA compliant EDC tool, that is bigger and more capable than the tiny jet setter.
I’d love to see more 84mm SAK variations…basically, scaled-down (see what I did there?) versions of the 91mm knives that are already available. I’d love an 84mm “Camper” for backpacking, or an 84mm “Super Tinker” for EDC! An 84mm knife with scissors would be great.
Opening, and breaking down boxes is 80% of what I use my Super Tinker for. Without a knife blade, I'm afraid it would end up in the same drawer most of the multi tools I've received as stocking stuffers over the years have ended up. And even though this isn't really an issue where I live, if you have to use it as a last resort self defense weapon, a knife blade is WAY more intimidating than a nail file, or tiny scissors.
Luckily Victoriniox aren't discontinuing their bladed models so you can still have those, but there are a lot of other people with a lot of scenarios that would benefit from a bladeless tool. So don't worry, they're going to keep making the tools you want- these new ones just aren't for you. I don't want to pass too much judgment, but I also have to come out pretty aggressively against the idea of using a SAK for anything even remotely resembling self defense. Using a fixed blade knife to fight is already very challenging and likely to get yourself cut- using a folder is worse- using a non-locking SAK is basically a guarantee that you'll hurt yourself more than your opponent. If the other guy has a real knife, then your SAK is so comparatively ineffectual that you might as well throw it at him and run. If the other guy doesn't, then you are both practically and legally better off dealing with him with empty hands.
I have a ton of SAK's and love them. I do think their line up is a bit stale and anything recently new has been a head scratcher for me. It seems Victorinox is a bit tone deaf or directionless right now. I truly hope you are correct that some cool stuff is coming out.
Happy Saturday Mark. All of this is more proof that Victorinox has lost the plot. A Swiss Army knife without a blade is not a knife, it is a Swiss Army Tool. The Venture series is Victorinox's attempt to fool us that a glorified Kitchen knife is a camping & outdoors knife. The new Companion series is their attempt to pass off a modified Climber meets the Wenger Traveller as a new "Ladies knife" (it is actually a good knife & I bought 2 New York style ones at a discount & replaced the scales on one with Rubi red translucent Plus scales and added them to my EDC rotation) Quite frankly Ladies who carry Swiss Army knives do so because they are useful tools not because they have pretty scales, that is IMO an insult to the intelligence of Women. If you want a "Bladeless Swiss Army Knife" (an Oxymoron) with lots of really useful tools - buy a Handyman, grind down the main blade to within an inch of the tang and grind it into the shape of the watch opener tool, then grind down the pen blade into the shape of the fine screwdriver. Then you will have a most useful bladeless Swiss Army Tool. I have one bladless SAK in my collection - a 58mm Jetsetter which I modified by replacing the boring red scales with the SilverTech scales from a Signature Lite, I have not taken it abroad with me as despite its supposedly meeting TSA rules there are still airports in some countries confiscating any pocket tool with a scissors or nail file even if they are tiny ones. I for one will not rush out to buy a bladeless SAK. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv
