A lot of people are talkin about voice cracks and things-imo for the kids-these kids are what, 8-11 at most? It takes unbelievable memory and breath control to sing/enunciate while dancing full out on a possibly unfamiliar stage. I commend these kids cause Revolting children (this specific version) is one of my favorites. Love the chord switch when the big kids come on stage. This is such a fun production and I commend everyone for this job well done
Pretty sure they also took up the key for the first song (Naughty) and the third one (When I Grow up) for orchestration purposes, hence the cracks. Still super talented and agree with everything else mentioned here!
@@MyBitch925 That was the look they were going for, and many over the years have surmised that it's meant to be a sign of parental neglect. Sure, some of the other kids have wild hair, but it's still styled and to the point. With Matilda, this is an example of how her parents don't care for her enough to even notice something as simple as making sure that her hair is brushed every day. It's quirky, but also sad when you realize the context of all the abuse she suffers.
Um… if this is the original cast, 13 almost 14 year old Ted Wilson played Eric. But he looked very young. He’s 21 now so he would be much too old for the role now
i often come back to this video to admire how the creators of this number (i mean specifically this tony performance) went out of their way to put every single swing in the number - even giving them that special moment with miss honey. i don't know that i've ever seen another show do this before at the tony awards & it's always always stuck with me.
Those aren't swings though, the show was quadruple-casted, just like Billy Elliot was triple casted. Since they equally share the rolls they make sure each is shown.
@@EddTaylorandBlakethey also had swings, both children and adults, and they are indeed in this version! I happen to be longtime friends with one of the adult swings, and there are a couple of great shots of him in this!
This performance was honestly so amazing, people like to point out little mistakes but let’s look at the overall picture, these kids were able to get on stage and not only sing amazingly but preform an extremely entertaining act with soooooo much personality! It’s so cool to see how talented they are and it went very well! Side note: it was so cute when they were all just scootering around stage 😭
It wasn't an accident. For televised performances, Naughty and When I Grow Up are always sung in a higher key. Naughty is higher to make the transition into Revolting Children sound better, and I'm not sure why the key of When I Grow Up is higher for TV performances, but it's always been that way.
Tbh I just thought it was lip synced (when they’re singing as a big group) because no way can they sing and move around like that and it not affect their tone qualities (except the obvious spots where the soloists are singing)
Movies and theatre are two very different media. On the stage, you have to be extremely "loud" and super expressive to reach the entire audience. But this sort of acting is often jarring in a movie, because everything is more "realistic" and up close. So I think the kids in the movie were perfect for the big screen.

No.... it's intentionally misspelled bc that's the whole point of the song.... Literally right before they spell it, they sing "We can S-P-ELL how we like; if enough of us are wrong, wrong is right." No silent letters

the ppl picking out voice cracks are delusional, those harmonies are TIGHT and you can hear each part pretty much equally, that's something adults can't do
@@xx_angelxx8222 you're right! but since matilda herself is meant to only be around 6 years old, and she's played by an 10/11 year old, adults are playing the teenage characters to make her look younger by comparison. this is because a broadway cast can't have that many people, so the same adults play lots of small roles throughout the show.

I really think that Oona Laurence was the best Matilda in the whole Matilda musicals (including those in London)
Oona's an awesome Matilda! I also really like Milly Shapiro and some of the West End Matildas like Zoe Simon and Zaris-Angel Hator! 📚💙

the revolting children performance here is better than the original and the netflix one.
