I'm glad you were able to let the play mat be donated....I've hung onto those and the plastic backing deteriorates after a while and then its too gross for kids to play with.

So glad the my little ponies are safe. It’ll be fantastic when you can display them all too. Miss Pepper 🐈 is such a wonderful support and supervisor checking all the new spaces. You will definitely achieve clearing, sorting and reorganising the basement this summer. You certainly deserve your own craft area too. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇‍♀️👏💪👍🙏💐🐈🦄

I took some of my childhood collectables and will decorate with them seasonally (Cherished Teddies). I kept my favorites and gave away the others. I am sure I will go through them again when the mood strikes me and if I feel I can let go of more, I will. I find it very interesting having attachment to something and give it 6 months to a year and you feel differently.

Do the boys have memory bins, that way they keep the special items and the rest can be let go. Dawn the minimal mom has treasure bins for the kids for school stuff or projects they made and when it’s full they can go through it and toss the old treasures that way it’s only temporary, that way you don’t have bins and bins of school stuff they bring home. Is hubby going to build you a craft room or are you just setting up an area in the basement for one? You could almost start setting it up and start getting certain categories going so you have a place as you go through a bin. What I used years ago was a dresser so I could have 1 drawer for gift bags and for party stuff, and as my daughter changed what she wanted for her bday themes I gave away the old stuff, just cuts down on keeping the outgrown stuff.

wiring can always be given to a metal guy... any metal.. I've had a metal guy haul off including rusty nails, lamps, appliances... wiring... if your area has an e waste bin usually that can go there... power cords etc.. either if you can call a guy or leave it at the curb.. I've done that as well w smaller bits so metal guys didn't have to make a trip for a few items... I had called when we had cleaned our garage of a car/truck load at a time of stuff.
our old house donates and metal stuffs we left at our pole and it was a Bermuda triangle ( how I met your mother) things quickly disappeared.
hangers, mailers ( no IDs) and peanuts Id donate too.

Next time you feel like organizing & especially if you have extra boxes: Consider assigning boxes by type of content so that the same categories are in same/similar boxes. It does take a bit of effort to shift contents into the 'right' box but it makes the space visually cohesive. Plus it's easier to scan the room.
Or at least color-code the labels using colored paper. Updating the labels is something your boys could even help with over the summer.

You should get a tall display case for your my little ponies and put it in your living room, bedroom or basement. That way you can enjoy it and limit the amount to a container. I got a few shadow boxes and did that with son’s first dress shoes and my mom’s 65th birthday tiara. My mom never had a tiara as a child so I got her one for her birthday. My mom passed away. It warms my heart and brings a smile to my face every time I see it.
