    My father was a driver on EAR 59 CLASS till 1972 in Kenya. The 59 class steam locomotive used to run between Mombasa and Nairobi mainly freight. Round trip was approximately 670 miles. Drivers were on allocated their own engines. Dad drove 5914,5924 and 5925. This was the most powerful steam locomotive for metre gauge in the world at that time .

    what a nice locomotive, what was it based on and what is the gauge here and of the original locomotive, nice paint job too!!

      The locomotive this is based on the EAR 59 class class, and its gauge was 3 ft 6 narrow gauge. I'm not sure what gauge this model is set on however.

      Yes, it is an EAR class 59, however the EAR was, rather, is metre gauge. The model is 7 1/4" gauge. The NRM at York has its sister engine Mount Kenya, built from the same drawings but made by a different builder

    it looks like 2 2-10-2s connected by the boiler, bigger boy?

      Nearly right, except it's a 4-8-4 + 4-8-4, it's designed to go around tighter curves than most locos of the era could handle.

    • @davidrayner9832
      @davidrayner9832 5 лет назад +2

      Nearly right. An EAR 59 class is a 4-8-2+2-8-4. The only 4-8-4+4-8-4 was the NSWGR 60 class.

      @@davidrayner9832 could've also been the Queensland Railways Beyer-Garratt Class, with its 4-8-2+2-8-4 and similar colour scheme; but no, it is the EAR 59 class, the numberplate on the side proves that.
