    PETER AND THE ROOSTER
    LUKE 22:54-61
    INTRODUCTION
Peter was the leader of the twelve apostles. When Jesus told the disciples at the last supper that they would all fall away, he insisted that even if everyone else fell away, he would never fall away. Jesus then got very specific with Peter, telling him that he would deny Jesus three times before the rooster crowed. Now Peter is living out the fulfillment of Jesus’ words. In the courtyard of the High Priest, Peter has hit rock bottom.
PART ONE: WHAT DID WE READ?
    1) Where does this story take place?
    2) Who was the first person to challenge Peter?
    3) When did the rooster crow?
    4) What did Jesus do when Peter denied Him?
    5) What did Peter do after denying Jesus three times?
PART TWO: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
    1) Why did Jesus tell the disciples of their failure in advance?
    2) Why did Peter deny Jesus?
    3) When the rooster crowed, why did Jesus look at Peter?
    4) Is it significant that Peter denied Jesus three times? Why?
    5) What did Peter’s tears signify?
PART THREE: HOW DOES IT APPLY TO US?
    1) Are there any ways in which we deny Jesus today?
    2) Did Jesus tell us in advance that we would fail?
    3) Has a “rooster” ever crowed for you?
    4) Peter failed completely. What happens to us when we fail Jesus completely?
    5) What did happen between Peter and Jesus? Has anything similar happened to you?
    PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You called Peter to follow You. May we be inspired by his faithful life. Although he faltered and denied You, he was fully restored to glorify You in his service and death. May we follow his example and always stand firm on the foundation that is You, in whose name we pray, amen.
