Lengthen your timeline. There is room in LIFE for all of this. I worked two full time jobs for a long time then had a family and college and meeting everyone's needs...BUT it was only in my 40s that I was able to go to art classes and now, in my 60's I've published several picture books and 10 graphic novels. I had to keep telling myself that I had time in my life for things when I never had time in a day for things. Read "Women who Run with the Wolves." She talks about creativity like a river having to run underground for a while when you're a busy mom. It's so inspiring. I have many friends who home schooled their kids who have now grown into wonderful adults. We who love these adults THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts, for good peopling starts in the home, with you.

There was so much to unpack from this video. I wanted to stop it and just give you a call. As a creative mother of six self-employed, homeschooling, homesteading (baker for farm market for a few years) I know how you feel.
1)The business part of a fun hobby can take the fun and dump it on its head.
    2) I am so excited about this bra pattern I wish you had an affiliate I went and ordered it.
    3) living in the country and taking a walk: don't have to brush your hair or dress up to step out the door, big sigh of relief
4)I'm panicked you'll get overwhelmed and not make that bramakiing update, no pressure, but I am.
    5) soooo glad you're paying attention to your family's priorities. Keep encouraging yourself with things like that podcast you mentioned. Don't burn out!! I love your content.
    6) I feel your frustration- two sewing rooms? Bless your heart, as my granny would say. Bless those little babies and your man who encourages you to be creative and helps you!

What a lovely comment. I so agree with you! My situation is completely different - just my hubby and me and no kids, and both of us in our 70s now. I do not enjoy good health but have a huge creative drive and I am constantly juggling with different priorities. I so agree with what you said about money taking the fun out of a hobby! Been there, done that... never again! I have an upstairs studio (medium sized bedroom converted, with a smaller "dressing room" - now office space - to one side, and I often want to work downstairs from the comfort of the recliner, and I'm constantly going up and down the stairs to get stuff that is in the wrong room! How Katherine manages with two sewing rooms several miles apart, I can't imagine!!

I'm a single mom of twins, so I totally get this. There are times that I have too many "have to do" items to do any sewing, but I also know that making things is what keeps me sane. So I make sure to prioritize sewing at night when my kids are asleep as well as bringing my knitting around with me to do on my lunchbreak at work or any available time :)

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video on so many levels, Katherine! Firstly, I'm so glad to hear how happily you are settling into your beautiful new home, and that you are getting back into a routine. Quite honestly I don't know how you manage to do all that you do! You are an inspiration.
Fascinating about the bra making. This is not something I had ever considered one could make oneself! I have to say that Canadians make the best bras! I now get my bras from the Breast Unit at the hospital, after my breast cancer 2 years ago. They have a special room where they fit you personally, and I have never had such lovely bras. They are made by a Canadian company called Trulife. I got some new ones just a few weeks ago and I love them - so comfortable with their very soft inner lining - so important for those with post-surgery scarring etc. - I am fortunate in retaining both my breasts although one is now a bit smaller than the other. The bras have pockets built into the soft lining, for the insertion of a prosthesis if you need it. I took one of my old ones apart recently in order to recycle the lace (yes, they are pretty too!) and I struggled to take it apart as it was so incredibly well made and finished.
So interesting what you said about the different "wells." Like you, as someone who makes things, I have a deep need to put my creativity into practice, and so often I have been frustrated as domestic duties and other commitments have taken priority. Having a fatiguing illness adds another factor to my life because so often after I've done the "essential" stuff (cooking, laundry etc.) the energy well is empty and the creativity well goes unsatisfied yet again. Over the past few years since we went whole-food plant-based, I have got myself better organised with a weekly meal plan, and a food book where I keep a record of stuff in the freezer and store cupboards, and have learned to pace myself as far as cooking in bulk for the freezer is concerned, keeping on top of it by writing on my list what I need to cook this week, etc. and don't try to do it all on one day. This means that I can stick to my resolution to get all this stuff out of the way in the morning, so that I can devote the afternoon to my creativity, and this is happening more and more now, which is immensely satisfying.
Interesting also the thoughts on ceativity and making money from it. Years ago I tried selling my work and it was horrible - it drained it of all joy, and I never made that much money from it anyway. It made me feel obliged to make stuff when the creative juices weren't flowing in that direction. I am too much of a spontaneous maker for that to work for me. Nowadays I do it for the sake of it - to satisfy my creative drive and also for love, making gifts for family and friends etc.
My creativity has recently taken the form of sewing again - I am making little neck purses and cross-body bags from recycled and upcycled materials, and also spending time taking old things apart so that I can re-use parts of them. A couple of days ago I got some junk jewellery bundles from Ebay which are an absolute treasure trove of goodies for repurposing! This is making a change from my usual mixed media and paper creations and book making. There never seem to be enough hours in the day, or energy in the well, to do all the things that buzz around in my head demanding to be made!! Creativity isn't what you do - it's an expression of who you are!
Keep up the good work - I absolutely love watching your videos and following your life and creativity. x from the UK.

I couldn't agree more! To me, being around too many people is like being in a crowd where everyone has a "boom box" blasting their music loud and I have a lot of trouble just being able to hear my own thoughts. It's like I feel everyone's emotions as if they were mine all at once. And, everything feels like it's closing in on me. For example, going to a grocery store is stressful.

I do 1840s historical stuff so that will be great. I love your hair tips; am growing out my hair too. I love your bra making journey and Corsetry. All up my alley. Kindred spirits. Good luck with everything. You are doing better than you think.

I used to be an avid knitter and produce a garment a month. Since having my 3rd baby, now a toddler, I produce about 3 items a year, sometimes less. However, I've come to realise that observing the world through my toddler's eyes is a creative expression, too. Using my mind in ways I had long forgotten is certainly challenging my creativity - in a good way. Also, if we can feel about our children as being part of our creativity (after all, we CREATED them!) may help us feel less frustrated or lacking self-expression when we can't get done as much sewing/knitting/gardening/crocheting... or whatever it is we used to do a lot of. I created so MANY garments over the years - and at least half of them had to be gifted to other people because I didn't like them that much or they didn't fit. Or simply I didn't need them. Nowadays I really pay attention to every aspect of the garment I am making - and although I barely knit, when I finish my sweater I know it's a keeper. So through motherhood and all that comes with it I have learned to be more thoughtful, present in the moment and also more minimalist in terms of how much stuff (clothes, wool, books etc.) I have. Less is more for me these days! 🙂

7:48 Oh my gosh yes! I live in a suburben/rural area and even that is way too much. Passing by people is DRAINING. Even if you don't interact in any way, even if they are on the other side of the street, their mere presence is draining! I'm so frustrated literally all the time because of all the people everywhere---- the very POSIIBILITY of there being people is enough to keep you on edge as an introvert. In fact, the whole "if you want to relax mentally, go for a walk" thing is absolute nonsense when you are an introvert and you can't go somewhere 100% people free.

I had a difficult decision between the Ingrid pattern you're making, and the patterns Lanai and Momiji by LilyPaDesigns. I read a lot and found that, for my particular fit issues, the LilyPa options were better for me than the Ingrid bra pattern. I'm working on my 2nd Momiji mock-up now...and, I was initially inspired to make my own bras by you, though I was never able to make cups that fit me correctly (due to my numerous fit issues). I've never had one that actually fit, and find 1870s stays so much more comfortable because of that, but now I realize that the main problem is that I have several different fit issues that prevent me from fitting into any mass-produced bras, and making my own will be an option that will allow me to have adequate bust support without needing a corset, which I'm concerned will weaken my core muscles if I wear one every day (though I wear them for back support when I do anything at all strenuous). I hope that you will be very happy with your Ingrid bras! If not, I suggest you check out Lanai and Momiji.

That is a very comfortable bra, especially to work in on hot midsummer days.
I thought, before you finished off the mockup with the elastic, that I would also consider to join a skirt at the bottom edge to make a slim slip for hot days I don't feel like wearing the usual bra.

I *am* a writer, and it’s such a common concept to have to fill your creative well if you want to be able to produce stories that you’re proud of. I’m also a RUclipsr and mom of 4, and the guilt can be so intense sometimes. My oldest just turned ten and I realized that for the first little while of their life, our kids are for us. We bring them into the world, we use them almost as an accessory, “that’s my kid.” But now it’s like his life is for him. And I know he’s growing up and becoming this beautiful human, but the guilt is getting worse. Am I really enough of a good person to teach him what it means to live?

The joys of motherhood! And it will always be our concern, no matter how old they get. What we have to understand as young parents is that the little ones learn all their attitudes, moral values and basic principles for life from the ones taking care of them from birth up to 3 years. That is why they are these adorable little copycats of their parents as soon as they can speak. They will learn additional lessons of this kind up to 5 years old, but after that we are only tweaking at what is already imprinted in them.
Better to take cautious care of who they spend time with in that all too short very impressionable time of their lives!

Great, dear Katherine, that you have 5 children! I am thrilled! In Germany, children are undesirable. The young generation in our country called the Last Generation, these climate hysterics, say that children are bad for the "climate" (whatever that means exactly), that they produce C02 by breathing, which damages the "climate" (I just don't understand what they mean). They are lost, brainwashed young people who stick to the streets in the nonsensical hope that government politicians can and WILL stop climate change. The Last Generation thinks pregnancy is something disgusting and that mothers are selfish... We are dominated by a sick ideology! Lots of love from Germany ❤I love all your videos. wow, $15 is super cheap for linen!! I'd usually have to pay at least $30 for linen with a tight enough weave that it's worth making clothing out of it. I lucked out a few months ago and scored a really beautiful striped linen for $15 that was half off bc the store was closing. That was the first time I bought linen in a fabric store, otherwise I tend to get it from second hand stores or flea markets for $2-$7 a piece, usually at least a meter but often more than two.
