My band Dirtnap from Springfield, MO played Abstract Book and Cafe. It was a wild trip. Wish I could remember who we played with. Cool video thx

Oh my GOD... I think that flyer at 0:50 was the first show I ever went to! I remember it was at RC Bridge Lounge or the Abstract Café, and was Dang Bruh Y? + Fiddlehead. My friend's brother, Tom Irwin, was Fiddlehead's bassist. I don't remember a band called Black Piranha though... I know it was on a weekend night in late '91. I remember borrowing the Basil's Favorite Hat demo tape from Tom in early '93. Anyway, great work.

I loved the RC Bridge Lounge. There was a true sense of community, and it is a fond memory of my early 20's and my year I spent there. Believe it or not, I was a sort of adjunct member of the Nipples for a few months. I played a bunch of live gigs, including a show on the balcony of the laundromat/bar on St. Charles (I forget the name) which is one of my fondest memories of my time in New Orleans. My own involvement ended when the band stopped calling me to come to rehearsal, and I was a bit butthurt about it at the time, but judging from the subsequent disintegration detailed by Dennis in this video, it was probably for the better...The Nipples were a very original band...both musically complex and rough, which appealed to me at the time. It's too bad they never had the opportunity to go into the studio and produce some recordings that represented the music the way (at least I) heard it. The New Orleans Curse....they may have something there...

they screwed themselves, like alot of NO bands; there was no "curse".

Very unique bands and music scene that was essential wrong time(lacked labels, media support, exposure, larger audience, ect).
Some of these bands could of had a level of success if they were around in the digital era.
The local mainstream nola music scene at the time was really only supporting more traditional music acts and dismissed these kind of bands for the most part.
Offbeat rarely spotlighted anything but funk, jazz, blues, rock n roll, ect.
At least these bands had each other for support.
