Hahaha, I'm sure I'm not, but it's not very common, I agree. It was so much fun 😍 Looking forward to more (albeit shorter) road trips around the country soon!
❤ Abu Simbel, the "Small Temple" of Nefertari, is the reason I became interested in Egypt to begin with. I was taking an art class in middle school and didn't know what to draw next. My teacher handed me a stack of National Geographics and said to find something. I found the 1960s article on the Unesco project when they moved the temples to higher ground after the building of the Aswan High Dam. I chose Nefertari's temple and fell in love with the literal writing on the wall. It's probably the root of my interest in languages, too. One day, I will see it myself. Kind of getting too old to make on a motorcycle, though.
Excellent video with very good camera work. You’re really doing great and brought back so many happy memories from when I was there 30 years ago, (HOW LONG??!!). It's amazing how a UNESCO-backed project cut up that entire temple into over 1,000 blocks, and moved it stone by stone to make way for the Aswan High Dam. Then they re-assembled it like a giant jigsaw - and you can't even see the slightest join! They even managed to align it perfectly so that the sun illuminates the statues inside. This is probably Egypt’s most dramatic site. I’m always looking forward to your next video - keep it up!
I know, the history behind this place (both ancient and modern) is mind blowing. So happy I finally made it down here to see it for myself. Thanks Lesley!!! ❤❤
We were in Abu Simbel a few weeks ago, I'm envious how small the crowds were when you first arrived! Of course , we were the typical tourists who flew to Abu Simbel from Aswan and arrived with all the other tourists. You did a great job filming the temples and your voice is perfect for narration! I'm relieved you have learned to "accept" the police escorts, they definitely want all tourists to be safe. I'm glad you made it safely to your hostel in Aswan, that looked pretty stressful for awhile. Take care and looking forward to your next video!
Oh, so it does get busier later on! Okay, glad I went early morning 😅Thanks so much Brian! Happy I made it to my hostel alright too, and slowly starting to accept the police escorts. It seems a little off again, on again with my level of annoyance with them, probably just depending on how tired I am and how much I am willing to go back and forth with them and wait for escorts to arrive 😂But I know they mean well.
I bet you're exhausted. Hopefully you're getting some well earned rest. But I'm enjoying the tour. It's almost like riding with you. 😉 Can't wait to see where we go next.
I don't know if you have actually done a separate video on Aswan but I really liked it. The pace is completely different to luxor and I feel that's it a bit more authentic. Must give a shout out to David who is listed on agoda. He was fastastic. Helped me with everything including booking a cruise, topping up my sim and giving me an insight into the Eqyptian mindset.
Yeah I made quite a few about Aswan, I rode my bike south from Cairo to Abu Simbel and explored many cities along the way. They can be seen in the previous vlogs (#87, #86, etc.) I love Aswan, it's so beautiful 😍
It was great video as always, Giselle. Thank you for sharing with us. The battle of Kadesh took place between Egypt and Hittites in 13 cencuy bc ( Hittites were based on today,'s Turkey). The treaty is very impotant because the first treaty was ever written down. One could see this treaty on a tablet in the Archeology museum in Istanbul ( a great place to visit). Happy travels.
Oh I dunno, it's up and down. I speak horribly, but at least I can get my message across most of the time 😅I have definitely gotten lazy lately, I really need to study 😩But thank you girl, I appreciate it
You r such a fearless girl I can not go that far in such nowhere places even am sure residents understand my lang 100% so what if there is no common language
very great temples very great filming very great effort with great history in great country MASER (Egypt) ..I wish I could to be with you❤...best wishes
Excellent video. I was there in Dec. Thanks for reminding me what a great country Egypt is. You should have gone to the Valley of the Queens, just sayin’.
🤣I was completely tombed out, I wouldn't have even appreciated it, to be honest 😆I will have to return there another time and stop by the Valley of the Queens though. Fortunately, I do have the option and opportunity to do that, I am lucky 😎Thanks Lissa!
So I went to Abu simbel yesterday. I didn't fancy a 4am tourist bus so I went to the aswan bus station to catch the 8am daily service and was told 'no bus' . No indication as to what the problem was or if it's no longer running.. Luckily 3 other tourists were in the same boat and so we used the taxi app(not uber) to book a ride. Worked out about 700 each. The only other option would have been a non tourist mini bus which would have been painful and they only go when full. Sharing a taxi is a good option if you don't have your own transport
I assume you are talking about a taxi from Aswan. As I rode my motorcycle I didn't need a taxi, but for others who want to go at a later time like you, please let them know what app: Careem, Didi, Indriver
@@Gventures I suspect it was in driver. One of the other tourists made the arrangements. The driver instructed him to cancel the app request and just pay the fair directly.
Yes they are! The Abu Simbel tours cost around 500 EGP (that was the price of the tour at Go Inn Backpackers-made a video about the hostel itself here: ruclips.net/video/Ixk5aNMsPfs/видео.html ) The tour leaves very early morning (I think around 4:30-5:30am) and you arrive to the temple around sunrise, spend a while there, and then head back to Aswan). If I hadn't been riding my motorcycle around Egypt, if I hadn't been able to get their like I did, I would have taken that tour. Thanks for watching Mohamad!
I was there on April 6th, 2023 and it was insanely crowded. The lines get into the temples are (exaggerating) 5 miles long. Inside the temples was shoulders to shoulders. However, it is worth the chaos though. I am so jealous that it was literally nobody there for you 👍
Wow, really?!! I am so shocked it was that packed when you were there, I am more lucky than I even knew! It is an incredible temple regardless of crowds, but damn do I hate crowds at ancient sites. I am lucky to even be at any of the sites and am always grateful, but it certainly changes the experience. When I went to Edfu it was a ZOO!
Wow Egypt is great
I seriously think youre the first person to travel by motorcycle from cairo to abu simbel. Thats nuts.
