Aswan, Egypt - After taking the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan, it was time to begin our Nile River Cruise from Aswan to Luxor.
Before we even got to see the cruise ship, from the Aswan Train Station, we met our Aswan guide for the day and immediately boarded a small boat en route to the Philae Temple.
The pyramids of Giza are incredible structures, but this is something completely different. The Philae Temple complex is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, the mother of all gods, goddess of the sky, moon, healing, and magic among other spiritual powers.
It served as a protective boundary and barracks for Egyptian Pharaohs, and then also for the Greeks and Romans during each of their respective time controlling this region. Which is why you can see Monuments of varies eras extending from the Pharaohs to the Caesars. Including an amazing structure called Trajan’s Kiosk, the unfinished monument dedicated to the Roman Emperor, Trajan.
From the Philae Temple, we made our way back down the Nile River past Aswan. The city of Aswan was a frontier town of Ancient Egypt, even mentioned in the bible under its original name.
Aswan was a trade center, serving as the gateway to Sudan and Ethiopia. Occupied by the Persians, then the Greeks and then the Romans, I mean, we’re traversing up one of the most important waterways in the history of the world, it’s just crazy to wrap my head around.
To this day, one indigenous group still calls this place home - the Nubians.
The Nubian People are an ethnic group who are indigenous to Nubia or the modern day region of northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Nubians originate from the early inhabitants of the central Nile Valley, and they speak their own Nubian languages, as well as Arabic and some English.
While this is considered a traditional Nubian village, I highly doubt their ancestors sold so many plastic camels. However, they are a trading people, and for today’s Nubians here, they’re trading handmade trinkets and souvenirs for foreigner cash. They’re survivalists.
Now, I still can’t figure out if this place is showcasing Nubian culture or exploiting it, but, I would have loved to stay here longer to see beyond the colorful exteriors.
From here, we head back to Aswan in time for sunset and to check into our Nile River Cruise.
The next morning, we take a three hour drive south, to Abu Simbel, the grand temples of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II.
Ramesses built Abu Simbel to impress upon the people in this region of Egypt’s great power and control as this area was an important source of gold and other precious trade goods.
Perhaps the most incredible aspect of this site is that fact that in 1968, the entire complex was moved to this artificial hill, piece by piece, exactly how it was found from it’s original resting place to avoid being flooded by the creation of a man-made lake.
From here, we head back to our Nile River Cruise parked in Aswan to continue our cruise north to Luxor.
I hope you enjoyed this Egypt Travel Vlog from Aswan, Egypt as much as we did making it! ❤️ If so, please hit that "👍" button, and leave a comment!
See ya next week!

Thank you all so much for watching! ❤Side Note: I realize Waleed didn't explain the full story of the Nubian people on camera. That could have been an entire episode on its own (which I want to come back and create). I explain a bit more in the voiceover if you listen carefully, but I am still learning as well. 😅 Huge shout out to my friends at @iEgypte for setting this trip up last minute. If you want to travel Egypt, I highly suggest sending them a message on Instagram (instagram.com/iegypte/) and tell them I sent you! See you next week from Luxor!!🙌
Gareth, I have been following your channel since your trip to Hawaii with your mom. 😃 All your videos are super informative!
My family plans to visit Egypt this Christmas. I understand that you took a Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor and hired private tour guides. I want to do the same too.
I thought that cruise already included guided tours. Wondering if the private guides are included in cruise booking as an option, or you need to hire them separately from the cruise service.
Please help to clarify. Thanks very much!🙏
Please do an episode of the Nubian people (as long as the powers that be will let you fo so). As I understand it, they had a culture that celebrated the human form, in that the youth were encouraged to be unclothed. It so contradicts strict religious doctrine of Islam and Christianity, that this tradition is probably harshly suppressed. What a better world we would have if we could appreciate the freedom of each other and love people for who they are.
Gareth how do i book the cruise
I'm an egyptian and I'm enjoying this journey through your eyes. It's a lovely series keep up the good work and hope you have a lovely trip
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate you following along. 🙏

I just found your RUclips channel last week but have watched maybe 10 vids and find myself thinking about them when doing other things during the day. And can't wait to get home and see the next chapter. (One thing I'd like to suggest is some numbering system so viewers can watch them in proper order. RUclips puts them up randomly.) Your photography is great! Gorgeous! I'm a still photographer so appreciate well composed, well focused delail shots! Sunrises? Sunsets? Cliche? But jaw dropping! Those shots reflected in the water like Siwa I think we're amazing! I so envy you and your "job"! At first I was thinking "Oh nice shots and friendly funny gleeful narration." But came to realize the organization that's gone into these is mindboggling! That one where you were explaining how to not get ripped off was great! Also like the lengths. If I see vids over 30 mins I tend to swipe away. 20-30 mins is perfect!
Keep on trucking for the rest of us who aren't as daring or able to go to exotic locales for various reasons. Wish I had traveled more when I was younger. Did some but not nearly enough!
Thanks for being you! I'm always happier after I watch your adventures! Gary D.
Nubian isn't sudanese, by the way Sudan was part of Egypt and Nubian is a group of people from the south of Egypt and the north of sudan
Nuba not belong to egypt or sudan ... nuba are the original people for this part of Africa .. they thuer language thier food their Arts their tradition and they are the real extension for ancient Egyptian.
@@uwk11573 so according to ur theory then alex ppl are not egyptian.. cairo same port saad Sinai etc... as every city or ear in egypt have there own tradition food art etc...
Exactly what I wanted to say they are Egyptians
Theyre not egyptian But they're also not northern Sudanese since northern Sudanese are kushites, keep that in mind.
As an Egyptian I always waiting for foreigners reviews and some times I found very bad and totally wrong information about Egypt some times I feel bad BUTTTT all your videos really makes me happy and proud.
Thank you and you are welcome in Egypt All the time ❤️❤️
OMG I follow a Brazilian couple who are travel vloggers on You Tube and they are in Egypt right now too.Called Jumping Places.I cracked up when they did the same overnight train ride that u did with a similar experience! When I saw them this am,they had just arrived in Giza. After finding their hotel, they realized that a whole bunch of camels used for tourist rides were "parked" right outside their window.Whew!🤧🤧😷😷😷 Less than outstanding. They also did a three night river cruise and saw Aswan temples and went to a Nubian village as well as Abu Simbel. The cruise was a good because the tours were all organized and it was chill.
I have to give you kudos,Gareth, for always representing our country so we'll as an American traveling abroad. You are always warm, friendly, and open with a big wide smile and a kind word. You always make sure you connect with the locals, especially the kids.Everyone always loves you.You represent everything that is good about being American! Thank you.
This was one of my most memorable trips back in 2009 and I travel a lot. Loved Aswan and Nubian people
They're Egyptians :)
@@othmankhaled7049 generally - nope, not only Egyptians :)
@@jurkul generally yes, unless you mean nubian egyptians. Aswan is part of ancient Egypt and always has been. Nubian includes sudanese and they're not part of Egypt.
Definitely putting this on my travel list
@@othmankhaled7049it was also apart of lower nubia as well at a different point in time
Hi, I am from the crew of the floating boat, the service department. It was an honor to have you with us. We hope to visit you as soon as possible. Greetings to you.
I love that you recognize all the people who work on the ship, all the regular people in the places you visit. You show case what makes the places you visit great, and that is the people! Great job Gareth, from a fellow San Diegan!
I truly appreciate that Milissa! Thanks for following along 😊

This is the best comment I've read.
Wait until you go to the valley of the kings and the valley of queens ! The colours on the walls look so vibrant ! My mind was blown.
Coming up on the next episode!! 😃
The sceneries in Aswan is really mind-blowing and happy to watch you stepping right into where history happened thousand years ago. 'Excited to see the next episode!
Thank you so much for following along, it has been absolutely unbelievable so far!
Thank you so much for respecting the sites and not touching them.❤❤❤
It is the least I can do, given the fact that making these videos will inevitably bring more people to visit. I just hope the people who visit based on my videos will be respectful.
I justt started my watching of videos on what to expect while traveling to egypt, this is by far the best video. Not only do you showcase what you're experiencing with your accommodations but the historical information is spot on and amazing. Thank you
I was there last month, and it was really amazing. It was like a dream, I already want to come back. Enjoy
I completely agree!! 🙏
LOVE FROM EGYPT
Thank you! 😊 🙏
I prefere to travel alone and plan my own itinerary. But when I went to Egypt I also opted to take a cruise with planed guided trips. As a women travelling alone it felt like the most safe option, where I'll also get to experience most of what I wanted.
The Nile cruise was an AMAZING experience ❤
Love our nubian egyptian brothers/sisters so much from Cairo ❤️
I really love your journey here in Egypt ❤️
You make us feel we are with you 😃
Thank you so much for following along Mohammed! 🙏
Nubian from sudan!!!!! that's wrong, they're people in South Egypt and north Sudan
North Sudanese are kushites. South egyptian are nubians. Both were once united but they were split by wars between each other for wealth and greed, and Nubia ended up being taken by Egypt.
@@Mai_TS--_-- lmao, aswan has always been part of ancient Egypt :)
And Nefertary is not Nubians actually :)
@@Mai_TS--_-- Kush and Nubia is the same... Nubia exists in both Egypt and Sudan, in fact the larger part is in Sudan from Wadi Halfa to Khartoum is historically Nubia but now it's Wadi Halfa to Dongola.
Awesome video!
Obsessed with your Egypt vlogs . Wow . The whole trip looks amazing .

there's nothing more relaxing - more elegant and move civilized than taking a boat from one place to another. all the particulars are magically taken care of.
Incredible video!
Great job, love your videos, enjoy your trip
I love how much history there is in every place you visited. Aswan is beautiful! Will take note of the tips you gave when I'm planning my visit to Egypt, the cruise is actually practical.
PS congratulations on reaching 500k subscribers! 🎉
Nubians are south Egypt people not sudanese
@@nohat9564 The Nubians are of Sudanese origin and came to Egypt when an Egyptian king fell in love with a Sudanese girl and she and her family came to Egypt
Well today your videos of Egypt got me my memories when I was there 5 months ago.Very nice ...

i am glad you took that cruise as a new thing and fancy where many Egyptians ride, where most blogger travel the cheapest journey and the most repetitive
We were so happy to be with all Egyptians on this experience. Like I said, it made it feel so much more "authentic." 😃
The Nubian village and people were beautiful!

Made my day!
Very beautiful loved the video ❤️😍😍
Thank you so much Rosaline!! 🙏
So good
Although I have already been to Egypt 16 times, I was there recently for 4 weeks, I have never been on a cruise before. I stayed again in Asswan for a few days. I would like to do one one day, but certainly not on this type of boat, which I find very impersonal and which keeps you far from the life of the populations on the banks of the Nile. Moreover, Gebel Silsileh for example, is not accessible by these big boats. You can only pass by... so I would chose a cruise in a Dahabieh, a much smaller traditional boat. It's a more a la carte, more local and for me, more magical experience. I would also like to take a cruise on Lake Nasser, again on a smaller boat. Thank you for mentioning respect for monuments. we don't touch anything, we don't climb on anything and we avoid the rubbing of backpacks on the walls as much as possible. It's catastrophic and it does great damage year after year. Many do not respect monuments much older than what they can see in museums at home and lack a minimum of education, only knowing how to take selfies. It's a sad...
Gareth are you filming during Ramadan? You GOTTA attend one of the group Iftars that are held during Ramadan at sunset.
Marvelous!
Unfortunately, we filmed right before Ramadan. I need to return for Ramadan next year!! 🙏
that was beautiful , literally movie set that temple next to the river. Crazy! that was awesome
Right!? For both Luxor and Aswan it felt like we were in the movies. So unreal!
Wow what a beautiful trip😊👍👌
It has been truly incredible so far!! 🙏
Hey Gareth love all your videos and travel experiences. BTW did you know Pollo Loco is using part of your videos? I just saw you on their commercial LOL… but those weren’t the Birrria tacos they are selling!!!
Happy Easter Garett, maybe you can find a nice lamb dinner to celebrate the holiday.
Happy Easter Mark! 🍻
Beautiful cruise boat…..
