"Crashes" is exaggerated. The right phrase should be "reduced".

Its truly unfortunate how ignorant of the systems and realities of the market some of our news reporters are and how they end up misleading alot of people that listen to them

Petrol has to be benchmarked on the international market price just as crude that they purchased in naira is benchmarked in the foreign markets

If d price is not bench marked to certain standard so many greedy elite will buy it extremely cheap in Nigeria and take it out by all means to neighboring countries to sell at higher price which in turn will cause unavailability of fuel in d country itself. Many people will rush into such bad business and it won't be easier for d Government to manage or curtail.

Benchmark it to what exactly without some form of state subsidy. What you are describing is not free market

The pricing will always be benchmarked to oil prices. These reporters should educate themselves. If Nigeria sells oil to Dangote at less than the international oil price it becomes a subsidy. That's how petrol prices work everywhere. A Naira swap deal does not mean the oil purchase price will be lower. It just means he will not need to secure foreign exchange to purchase oil from Nigeria for refining. That advantage there is that it reduces the pressure on the Naira.

  • @fincobaly

Yes, the refinery is transparent. You said it yourself that it is a global product with cost determined by the international market. It is the same everywhere. Gone are the days that the government will determine the price because of the deregulation. You need to do your homework before you feed the masses' wrong opinion.

If it's benchmarked in international F24/JP5 or JP8 price...and average Nigerian wouldn't be able to, but it... because the average Nigerian income is crap...over 80% of Nigerian salary, earn a salary that is considered below poverty level... not to talk of the non salary folks who have nothing.
Dangote's company still has high overhead, be its still new... The problem with Nigerians is impatience. Meanwhile, y'all was paying so much a few months ago from your petrol cabals.
Nigeria should thank Dangote because his refinery with for a start stabilizes the price, then as his overhead reduces, it can fall that is assuming other factors are static.
Y'all should put on your big boy and big girl pants up and fight the corrupt politicians who are also part of the Petroleum cabals.

A very ignorant and narrow assessment of the oil industry. The naira swap deal is also bench mark against international oil price

What is she talking about? If Dangote was to crash the price of PMS to N250 what will happen to the international oil companies that have multiple year contracts to import PMS at a predetermined price? You think there wouldn't be a mass exodus of those companies and mass job loss? This will lead to a mass loss of tax revenue for the county. How do they allow people like this talk freely on the news?
