I'm from the small nation of Nuie in the South Pacific. We have been part of the Commonwealth alliance of countries which includes New Zealand and Australia.
Those 2 countries have done very very little to help any of the Pacific nations. They haven't helped us out of economic struggles to trade and prosper.
China came to Nuie and fixed the roads, and are helping Nuie become a stronger n confident in trading with the bigger countries. NZ and Australia abandoned the Pacific during the Pandemic. Western powers think we're stupid. China is a better political and economic partner for the Pacific Island nations.

Cyrus, what you said in this video is absolutely correct, kudos to you. Hope those Americans and westerns who understand only English will benefit and get a clear picture of what ASEAN countries really care now from your video. All that you said is exactly what I have read and heard from forums, news talks and political discussions on the media in that region (in English or local languages) for the past years. ASEAN doesn’t want America military influences to be there and don’t welcome it at all. America needs to clearly understand the history in that region. Just like Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir said, “China has been their neighbor for over 2000 years, China never invaded us”. I was born and raised in that area though I am living in US for my last thirty years in US. Most countries in ASEAN were colonized by the West except Thailand. Governments and the people there are very well aware of their history and what their countries went through during the colonized years. Just an example of history in Singapore and Malaysia, when the Japanese invaded those countries in WWII, the British pulled out its troops so quickly and retreated to India without significant fight. When the war ended, the British quickly sent its troops back to occupy. Look at what the America government did in Vietnam, Afghan, Iraq and etc. too! Lack of reliability and only show of greed! 江山易改,本性难移!ASEAN knows what America is really interested. Even if America government brings billions of dollars to them, ASEAN still won’t trust America like China. Sorry that I have to be this blunt, but this is truly what the perception is for the people there.

@Gesara Not sure what are your points here trying to bring up English schools are more than Chinese schools that is non factual. Malaysia government converted all English schools and all other language schools into SK (Sekolah Kebangsaan) or SJK(Sekolah Jenks Kebangsaan) for primary schools and SMK(Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) secondary schools. In 1970s, Malaysia government abolished the English medium in public schools. Malay and English are compulsory subjects in all schools, Tamil or Chinese subjects are continued to be taught in SJK. Only the Chinese Independent High Schools are still kept in place. There is no such thing as English schools in Malaysia excepts the International Schools that follow the international curriculum.
In addition, ZhengHe from Ming Dynasty visited Malaya earlier than the British and even earlier than the Portuguese and Spanish, but China never once colonized Malaya. Please go back to study your history. China did not have the interest to colonize and change any country’s regime before, it will not have that interest now as well. To predict someone’s future behavior and action is always best to study his past behaviors and history. Listen to what the person says and observe if his actions comply to what he said! 听其言和观其行!Americans and the Anglo-Saxons’ countries always hold double standards.

I think the approach of US is different. US is always about self interest and interest of the military complex. US did not go to these ASEAN countries with an aim to improve them economically but rather to force them to give up their economic future to help US confront China. To US, these countries should go on their bended knees just because US asked since it holds itself as the biggest superpower. China approach is rather unconventional, it helps these countries improve economically because China is really only going for the market. When these countries become rich, China will have access to richer customers to continue buying it's goods and services.

Here's the thing, the modus operandi: if something happen, and you can't make the debtor happy, they could banned or even cut off maintenance components supply (for weapons etc), and/or blocked the bank, just like what they do to Russia. The perfect situation for ASEAN is everybody chill, I mean it's not like China and US don't have problems in their own home. There plan is quite simple give unsecured loan at high interest rate to low income economy for development of railways, ports and other infrastructure. Now so far its win-win for both china and small economy but as we know devil is in details they put a condition that only Chinese company will build all the infrastructure and only Chinese engineers will be doing major high paying job...so basically china give you high interest loans and later put a condition to only buy from its store... because of this china makes huge profits and borrower will keep on getting in debt. Other countries should not so quickly accept the money of the single most murderous government that ever existed by sheer numbers (not proportionately though, that I believe goes to ghangas khan). The cctpp was avoided for reason of the European union. The European union was supposed to be purely a trade organization but it had included in it the ability for policies created by the trade union to supercede the laws of the individual member nations. This is why the European union turned from trade organization into federal government. China is doing the same thing with that trade organization as it also includes trade policies shall supercede participating nations laws. Its seems like keeping trade separate from nation morals should be obvious but its not starting with speech laws used to mitigate trade confusion. This need to control language indirectly necessitates the trade organizations motivations to control individual nations morality which indirectly means controlling everything policy driven without exception. Now have the most murderous country in history be the equivalent of Germany in the EU for its own trade organization and it used generous amounts of money to ensure that position 40 years later. Don't be surprised if these countries also acquiesce to the general moral sentiments of the CCP. Its not a generous financial gift, it's a curse giving people a chance to stab participating nations in the back. The US should only help with military as no one should advocate for foreign ownership of their own countries. It would be one thing if donations did not have private ownership strings attached but that is not how the CCP or the US work. Arguably the CCP is even more obnoxious then the US in regards to private ownership strings attached. That money is never given away, it has included in it percentage ownership of government enforced investments. This is disproportionately true in the case of the CCP.
Consider taiwan as an example, a huge proportion of their economy is US owned. All the chip manufacturing is with US technology under the condition the US gets a massive cut. Its licensed out to other countries under profit motive. The initial money forwarded to the various countries was not free, it was an investment where any and all growth goes centrally to a foreign country. China is playing the US and EU's game with extreme efficiency. Nothing is free and they are paying the most to get the most at everyone's expense. Trading a better now for the entire future is called a crap deal.

China is currently *at peace and not at war* with any country, since our last major conflict in 1979. Instead of making war, China is building infrastructure like _roads, railways, highways, bridges, tunnels, powerstations, dams, ports, airports,_ etc and investing in developing countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and also African countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Chad, Sudan, Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania, etc.
Whereas the United States is *warmonger* being involved in Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghan War, Libyan War, Syrian War, Yemen War, etc, even in the 21st century. USA is bombing in those Middle Eastern countries and enacting regime change by cutting off their "heads" (Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, etc) and then installing their own US puppet governments in place. If anything, it sounds like USA is a threat to global peace and stability.

Hi Cyrus Im Indonesian , I can tell you from my view.
In 1965 our 1st president Soekarno was overthrown by general Soeharto with CIA backed operations , it took more than 1 million lives ( most of them executed without trial for being accused of communist ). As the result our natural resources are exploited by US companies such as McDermot , etc. And Soeharto and their families being the richest and most corrupted president in the world . In 1998 people power brought him down because we have had enough of his tyranny and his family corruptions , it took so many lives of student lives . It was worst Asian crisis at that time And we fell into IMF and World Bank trap and policy.
You know in Indonesia we have a so called "Mafia Berkeley" they are politicians graduated from Berkeley and all of their policies favor the US government and US interest .
With our current government we are more neutral , we sided with who can give us more benefit without controlling our soverignity.
For example we are more toward China in building infrastructure , Power plant, Mining etc because they give more fair bussiness.

Agreed.

Exactly. The US always says one thing and does the exact opposite. Blinken's new China strategy started with his usual demonization of China on fake stories such as genocides in Xinjiang, and ends with another cold war strategy by encircling China with the 5-eyes alliance, QUAD, AUSKUS, and IPEF. That's after he said he is not pursuing a new cold war with China. Biden's May Asia trip and new china strategy is just another "Hail Mary" to boost up his rating before the November mid-term election. But his team is just foolish themselves because they have lost all credibility, both domestically and internationally. As we speak, Biden's rating has dropped to just 24, and there is a boycott of Latin American nations at the Summit of Americas in June.

Hai Cyrus, just a few points:
    1. You forgot to mention that Campbell went to Solomon island with a senior Military official and basically threatened the PM of the Island. Why does a "diplomatic" visit require a military official to tag along for some arm twisting?
    2. The USA is still practicing "Gunboat" diplomacy from the 18th century.
    3. In the 3 visits by senior Govt officials to Asean recently, the predominant issue those official pushed was military - anything else was after thoughts.
    4. Despite all the "fancy speech" that the USA President made, the guiding principle of US relationship is still "You are either with us or against us". The claims of working together is just so much lip service. Asian countries had always seen thru US hypocrisy and doublespeak but had no choice but to bow and say "Yes Sir", given the belligerence and willingness of the USA to use force. (Military or Economics oppression or both)
Unless the USA can change its guiding principles, which I very much doubt, its influence in Asia is going to evaporate within the next 10 years .
