What Sachs never mentions is the real cause of the US Cold War with Russia, he keeps saying the US wanted dominance but never says why, It's clear the US is doing the same thing with China, The US knows it can't go to war with those countries the reason is clear no one wins and everyone will die,
The only reason Sachs never mentioned is the Dollar Reserve statute it's a leverage they don't want to lose the only countries who can say this is a scam and needs to end are China and Russia,

The Ukraine War was also a business campaign for the military industry. I can only imagine the insane amount of profits those war companies have earned in the past three years. The American economy is partially a war economy, it's no wonder they have been in endless conflicts since the end of WW2, and if there's peace , they made sure conflict needed to be manufactured. There is simply so much money to be made.

      Even my GRANDMOTHER (R.I.P)

      And as the

      "OUTLAW JOSEY WALES" said:
"IT IS SAD THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS CHEAP WITH THE
      DEVIL TONGUE."
Because it is true fact that:
      GOVERNMENT DOESN'T LIVE TOGETHER,

      THE MAIMED,
      THE SCARRED,
      THE DESTRUCTION,
      THE BAD MEMORIES,
      ETC
      TAUGHT US:
NOT A DAMN THING BECAUSE MOST HUMANKIND IS TOO STUPID TO LEARN FROM PAST MISTAKES LET ALONE UNDERSTAND WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IT!!
      POWER, LIES, GREED, CURRENCY,
SELF CENTEREDNESS, PRIDE, PATRIOTISM, ARROGANCE, HATRED

Nothing could be farther from the truth. Russia has a history of aggression towards its neighbours. See Georgia 2008 and Crimea (that was just to beautiful and important not to annexe it). They also invested heavily in trying to influence the elections in the Republic of Moldova. The reality is that all the small nations which were once in the Soviet block want to be part of NATO to avoid further aggression from Russia, including my own country, Romania. These nations want to be independent, to decide their own future and they want democracy. They are ready to die for this. Ignoring all these facts and saying it's a war between the US and Russia is deliberately lying.

And that is a high ideal. But you'd be surprised to know that some countries do not want peace. Putin's idea of peace is appeasement or acquiescence to his will. Putin is the one threatening nuclear strikes. No European country or NATO have threatened Russia. Russia is opposed to NATO, not out of fear of invasion, but fear it will no longer be an empire. Remember that the Russian Federation and the then Soviet Union is a conglomerate of lands and territories that the Russians invaded and defeated. Russia's history of aggression is a long, long history that has not stopped. So Mr Sachs and others such as yourself can dream of peace but there are nations that want power, there a groups that want power - not so they can live peacefully but so they have power and wealth. Putin is one of the richest men in the world whilst his country even prior to the war, is not. Peace can only come if all players want that. We are now in a situation just like WW2 where nations could have said to Hitler - okay, we want peace, so it's okay. You can rule us. Russia's activities in Ukraine have not been about trying to take over a country by defeating its military - it's been about trying to seize territory by defeating the citizens of that country and its use of torture, rape and murder tell you that the Russians are not people who want peace - they want superiority. It is not just Russia, of course, but when you look at the current alliance of Russia, Iran, North Korea - you can see that they are perfectly reasonable and peaceful rulers who want to better the world.

  • @georgewoods5543
    @georgewoods5543 2 месяца назад +9

While I have great respect for Sachs work, I am somewhat disappointed in his analysis of this situation. Having visited Ukraine number of times, the Ukrainians have no love for Russian control and voted decisively in a democratic referendum to leave the Russian union. The 1994 Budapest Memorandum was signed by Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Under it, Ukraine agreed to give up the nuclear weapons in return for security guarantees. Russia violated this agreement when it supported separatist movements in Ukraine's Donbas region and subsequently invaded Ukraine in 2014 and again in 2022. The UK and the US are protecting international law by living up to the 1994 agreement. NATO expansion was and continues to be the result of decisions by sovereign nations to seek security against the threat of future Russian aggression from which they suffered following WW2. Does anyone in the West really think that NATO is an aggressive pact and will invade Russia. Ukraine is not blameless with regard to its treatment of its Russian-speaking minorities and it would have been better served by a federal government that provided linguistic and cultural protection to its Russian-speaking regions. However, in this conflict it is not a US puppet state nor the aggressor.

I am surprised how little knowledge has Jeffrey Sachs about the whole historical process and reasons of the war. And I am scared that such a narrow minded person pretends to be an authority in this topic. He takes only 20% of the whole view and tells this is the only reason of the whole situation. His view on the case is totally US-centric and thinks that the whole world is circulating around the US. By the way, with such attitude, US will easily loose the competition with China.
There was no plan of US to expand NATO to the east and circulate Russia. The process of NATO expansion was initialized by countries from middle-eastern Europe. In fact at the beginning US and countries of western Europe were against it. Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary had to convince them that they could join NATO. Joining NATO was fully supported by the nations of middle-eastern Europe. After the previous 200 years experience with Russia they knew that Russia is just a rubbish state. They wanted to join the western countries zone which was richer and better organised. At that time middle-eastern Europe countries were several times poorer than western Europe countries.
So the whole process of expanding of NATO just came from the desire of middle-eastern Europe countries to have better life and better future for themselves and for their children. Last 30 years of history has shown that this was the very good decision.
Mr. Sachs should read some books about the whole region of middle-eastern and eastern Europe. Maybe he is a good economist, but definietely not a good geopolitics.

Even if Baker told Gorbachev that NATO would "not move an inch to the East," it is absurd for Professor Sachs to treat this as some kind of eternal state of affairs. NATO is a defensive alliance that allows new members to join if they meet the criteria and if existing members agree. Such a process cannot simply be "stopped" arbitrarily. Baker had no authority to make such a promise, and Russia certainly understood this at the time.
Moreover, a verbal statement is fundamentally different from a signed agreement, like the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which Ukraine, the USA, the UK, and Russia guaranteed Ukraine's security. Russia blatantly violated this agreement when it incited separatism in Eastern Ukraine and annexed Crimea in 2014, and later launched a full-scale brutal war in 2022.

Simple. In geopolitical power-struggles between alliances, border states have two choices: 1)Joining a side, and having a reasonable expectation that any future conflict will be confined to the borders of their territory and that of the adversary. 2) Remaining neutral and having absolute certainty that a future conflict will be fought across the entirety of their territory. This certainty would have been pointed out clearly to the newly independent countries of Central / Eastern Europe by the original NATO countries when their membership of NATO was being solicited. It's what we call a 'Hobson's choice'- i.e.a choice made under duress. Finland and Sweden, being border states, are in exactly the same position.

'Unprecedented, Wasteful, and Obscene': House Approves $1.48 Trillion Pentagon Budget
    July 26, 2019
"Wanna know how broken and captured Washington is by the Pentagon and the corruption of our nation's 'defense' budget? Well, look no further than the soon to be enacted budget 'deal.'"
In a bipartisan deal that one anti-war critic said demonstrates how thoroughly "broken and captured Washington is by the Pentagon," 219 House Democrats and 65 Republicans on Thursday voted to approve a budget agreement that includes $1.48 trillion in military spending over the next two years.
Just 16 Democrats-including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.)-voted against the two-year, $2.7 trillion budget agreement. Largely due to expressed concerns about the deficit, 132 Republicans and Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) also voted no.
The final vote was 284-149. (See the full roll call.)
The House passage of the budget deal, which President Donald Trump quickly applauded on Twitter as a victory for the military, comes after the Congressional Progressive Caucus threatened in April to tank the measure in opposition to its out-of-control Pentagon outlays.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity.
In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time
Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.
20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO.
NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter).
We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.
Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster?
Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest.
Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland.
Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed.
Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”.
Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it.
Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country.
Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list.
Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list.
There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence).
The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.
Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P.
The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims).
The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter.
I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion.
I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written.
Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.
