Thanks for the comment, if you buy a un-welded D ring you can bent it fit it on the belt loop and close it up with some pliers and fit a dangler to it I did it to my Jacklore knife sheath.
It's nice to know that one of my videos has inspired you to learn leather work, I've only been doing it for a very short time but I find it very relaxing, don't let the mistakes you will make put you off believe me I've made loads but it all part of learning, good luck with it and let me know how you are getting on.

I just received the Laplander sheath John made for me. I opened the package and I gotta say I'm speechless. Absolutely superb craftsmanship, beautiful colour, the stitching is superb, the fit is awesome, the price was great and the delivery to Canada was fantastic.

Thanks Robert that's really nice of you to say that, I was watching a vid on youtube with a saddle maker using a head knife made it look so easy so I bought one, not used to it yet but it makes cutting a lot easier, great tool when you learn how to use it properly, really starting to enjoy doing the leather work, learning from all the mistakes I'm making lol.
Really nice sheath and excellent workmanship. You make it look so easy to make! I just bought a covered sheath with belt loops for my laplander, but can see the advantage of the dangler as ended up just keeping mine in my pack. Live and learn. Thanks for the video. M

Good idea Lee that rubber mallet I use is too big and heavy I know exactly what you mean about the cobblers hammer will look into getting one, thanks for the advice.

Now that's a work of art
hi john, one tool that will help you no end, and is invaluable for leather work, and i could not work with out it, is a smooth faces hammer, or cobblers hammer with a convex face, that i always polish to a mirror finish, really helps with tapping your work together for smoothing the pieces out, it never marks the leather.

Hi John those head knives do take some getting used to, I always managed to give myself a nick with them until I worked where I was going wrong!

a true craftsman, it is far too easy to search the net & find some kind of chinese knock off for almost everything, but one thing that can't be knocked off is true craftsmanship, am hoping to get my own laplander next month, if so also hope i can get one of your sheaths for it, keep up the truly excellent work

Hi Jezza,if you want to know what tools to buy and how to do leather work your best to watch Ian Atkinson channel he has put up a lot of videos explaining all that you need to know about doing leatherwork much better than I could explain it, check his channel out. atb John.
Nice work John. Relaxing to watch you work (and the music was very appropriate- nice job there too). What size D ring do you prefer? I got some 1" and they seem a little small. About to start this project. I've made a half dozen or so small sheaths for my spoon carving knives, and always thought a Laplander sheath would be nice when I'm using it in the woods.
I use 32mm I think this is 11/4" on my laplander sheaths, hope this helps. atb John.
