I just finished listen for the lie last week and LOVED it! I’m haven’t read as many thrillers as you so that’s probably why I was more entertained by it. Impressed that it’s her debut adult thriller and will be reading more from her in the future!
I love how you noted that the female MC of Listen for the Lie is more akin to a cozy mystery character, as that's what was I was trying to figure out while reading it. But I completely agree with your review - I understand why it's popular especially with how well-done the audiobook is (which is how I read it), but as a more seasoned mystery/thriller reader, it wasn't anything special or memorable. I've also been waiting for more reviews on How to Solve Your Own Murder so I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I literally cannot wait until How to Solve Your Own Murder! It sounds like exactly the kind of classic murder mystery I love and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🥳
I love Scarlett Thomas. Not read Sleepwalkers yet, but it seems like the most she’s dipped into the mystery/suspense drama. Her older books are a real mix, mostly literary/general fiction, but not in a heavy way. She’s very readable, very unique. Have a read of some synopses and see what takes your fancy! The End of Mr Y is by far her most successful (and probably best, in all honesty).
Has Ashley ever shared her background? I’d love to know where she gets her books, how fast she reads ( seems really fast in comparison to me) how she got into RUclips videos etc.
I don't like amnesia tropes either, however, I loved Listen for the lie. I think the audio and the podcast elements helped me overlook that because I really enjoyed them. It definitely doesn't give thriller vibes but more mystery vibes which I also didn't mind because I like cozy mysteries. 😂 I'm intrigued by How to solve your own murder, but I am not a fan of too many characters so not sure if I will pick it up or not.
Listen to the Lie: Rest of the book 4/5 Ending 1/5 I was expecting a blockbuster ending having read some reviews praising its ending. however it did not deliver in my opinion. I really dislike *spoiler* open-ended books so this one was a miss for me. Overall 2.5/5 great build up but lacklustre ending.
I’ve been so curious to read Listen for the Lie and now I’m so nervous after you said it reads like a cozy mystery lmao 🫣 I’m not the biggest fan of cozy mysteries so now I’m afraid I won’t like it 😂
Thrillers and vlog, what a great combo!!! 🎉

Great vlog. I can't wait to read how to solve your own murder. I'm excited for all of them, but that one is the one that sounds the best.

Read Shalini boland the other daughter and thank me later ❤❤❤❤
I HATE the memory loss trope. Actually, I hate any unreliable narrator trope

Lolol you’ll know very quickly if the writing style is working for you or not so it will either be a quick relief or a quick DNF 😂
