  • A trip down to the Kenidjack valley in West Cornwall with my Mamiya RZ67 for an afternoon of film photography. The films used were Ilford FP4 and Ilford HP5.

    Well made video Tom and great images. Was there myself a few days ago shooting with 10 year old Fuji in black and white.

    You made the donkey shots look easy! My animal pictures are junk for the most part.

    Tom I’m enjoying your channel from the Pacific Northwest of the US. You prove that just getting out is reason enough, but even so you managed to get some great shots under very difficult lighting conditions. Well done!

    The lone donkey is the clear winner this time. Btw. my local football club won the liege this year and celebrate it last Saturday. I will post the Champions photos on instagram soon and make a b&w version especially for you.

    It always amazes me how many usable shots you get per roll, apparently without any bracketing. The silhouette of the horse was well spotted. Well done.

      Thanks very much Alfred, I do bracket sometimes when the lighting conditions are particularly tricky. I usually don’t bother though because of the price of film, and I find negative film pretty forgiving most of the time.
      Thanks again Tom 🙏

    Nice work, Tom. One of the joys of living in this region is you can 'tag' a location you have discovered and then, when the conditions you're after are available on a free day, you can go back. Some of the most satisfying images I've produced in my genre have been produced employing that approach.

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Год назад

      Thanks very much Howard, that sounds like a great idea. I’m hoping one day I can make a living from my photography and be available every day. Well that’s the dream.
      Many thanks Tom 🙏

      @@tomwhelan Very welcome, Tom. It''s a nice thing to aim for, but I knew a fellow artist who runs an art photo shop in Wales, and it's clearly not easy, even with on-line sales. I decided when I started to be a creative, non-commercial photographer (my late wife was a brilliant commercial photographer and teacher - that's how I got involved), and its certainly helped keep me sane over the years!

      @@howardbabcom it’s certainly very difficult to make a living from photography. I like just being out in nature capturing images, like you say it keeps us sane.

    Awesome images again Tom. Do you ever shoot colour? (Your B&W is outstanding)

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Год назад +1

      Thanks Sebastian, I do shoot colour sometimes it’s just becoming so expensive. I do prefer black and white and I can also print the images in the darkroom too.
      Many thanks Tom 👍

      @@tomwhelan I know what you mean, I have the Fuji 6x9 and to put colour through that hurts everytime, plus I enjoy the self development, which I just can't justify to do at home.

    Brilliant day out Tom - with plenty of interesting subject matter. Have you ever shot the RZ with a 2x lens converter? I have one for the RB - useful for those distant horizon shots. All the best.

    • @tomwhelan
      @tomwhelan  Год назад +1

      Thanks Ray that sounds like a great idea. I’ve never really considered a teleconverter, It would definitely come in useful. I will have to look into that. Thank you 👍

      @@tomwhelan Mine's a Vivitar but I can't recall if they ever made one for the RZ - it would need different contacts, I presume.

      @@raybeaumont7670 it looks like there is a Mamiya 1.4 x for the Rz but no 2x. It’s not quite the magnification but it should be a tad sharper I guess.
      All the best Tom
