😁👍 Looks very nice man! Thanks for the shout out!! I am having a blast with mine... I learned the stock foams after using them for a while break in and get super soft and are actually not that bad after a good run in. I now mounted a set of the cheap $25.00 austar tires and wheels on mine and have to go test them out but they look pretty good they are the proline hyrax clones and I did hear good things about them. 👍Looks great running in the snow with a white body. O I thought I was joined to your channel ...just re joined!
I noticed the same on my stock foams. I did one battery run on a 2200 mah and one on a 5000 mah and my stock foams are now super soft and rebound much quicker. You wouldn't even know they are the same foams when comparing to the un-used spare.
@@Gdub-ok7ur Yes my spare tire is still rock hard and mine that I ran for miles in the mountains on the truck are soft as heck even in the cold they stayed soft now.
servo does well in the dry Rocky Mountain trails! haven't had any issue with the transfer case hump and had it doing some crazy crawling! bump steer is a little issue cause you'll trim out constantly until you do something, I moved the steering arm below the knuckle and no more bump steer or tire rub! great video very informative
Looks absolutely superb! It is amazing how small details can transform a truck and give it a much greater level of scale realism. Of course now you need to do the interior...
That paint job looks real nice. I recently bought a can of truck bed liner for the roof and the bed of another R/C truck, but haven't put it on yet. --- About two weeks before the Gen8 was released I contacted Redcat to ask if they had plans of releasing any painted bodies with clear windows. They told me no because "most people don't want clear windows" they told me. Funny though that so many people are figuring out to clear their windows, and anyone I've seen buy a clear body paints it with the windows clear. I think they knew people wanted clear windows but figured they could sell a bunch of $55 clear bodies if they painted the production bodies black. --- I bought the .stl files for printing a 3D interior, but no sense printing it till I've cleared my windows. --- I've seen people complain about the "bump steer", and I agree it's so minimal it's basically a non issue.
Really love the way your Scout looks man. Definitely is a looker! Good thing you started with a fresh body too so that the fender wells were up to you to line up perfectly!
This came with the body pre-cut with the fender wells pre-installed, just like the painted trucks do. In terms of alignment, the only thing I changed was to move the rear links to the rear mount in the skid to better center the rear wheels in the wheel wells.
@@BudgetRC_Channel Ah, I remember yours came pre-cut, I didn't know they pre-installed the fenders though. I'm sure you saw on RCC, but I had to actually move my rear fenders back about 3mm, because they were off to begin with. I have a video for it coming out on Sunday, but the pictures are up on RCC already.
This is such an awesome video.. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and your honesty about the gen8. It looks amazing by the way. Love the white and black
Like the white and black. Looks really good in the snow. Great run!👍 I bounced around on tire and foam set ups. I indeed up with some pro-line boggers sealed with the foam that came with the tires. I live in Oregon and like to play in water hence the tires being sealed. I have no problem going anywhere with the boggers and they don't rub. I had to trim a little but can't see it. My gen8 will out climb my trx4 bronco.
love the build looking great. flip it over and push down and the axle and you can see the bump steer a lil better but its not that bad of a fix. new servo horn. helps a lil. panhard relocation will help a lil and husky steering link kit will help a lil.
You're right, but if you need to go to those extremes to see it, it's probably not bad enough to be much concern. I did replace the servo arm with a thinner one and did see that it's almost completely gone now.
Love the paint, I found the same white Scout photo online. But I'm going a different route colorwise. Must say I like the Redcat Gen8. Love this vid and you have a great channel.
Funny I saw that exact same truck pic as you you and loved it. Was gonna do white too. But saw a gun metal one on that same site and went with that. Still planning on doing a white one tho. yours looks awesome! Just bought the magnets too.
Yep this is defiantly being purchased. Thanks for the info. I started a channel, trying to give similar insight into this hobby, and maximizing fun factor for all skill levels.
First video I’ve watched and instantly subbed 👍🏻. Love the truck! Huge scout fan with my Gen 8 on the way to me. Looking forward to more videos on it. Keep up the great work 🤘🏻
Club5racing has a new servo relocation bracket that completely eliminates the bump steer and body roll while turning. It's made out of aluminum and goes for $30. Nice paintjob and wheels. Love the white !
Nice video like the paint job, just did magnets to mine today and wow... All I got to say about that. Nice stuff man I'm over in upstate NY not far from Albany
great video bro, just subbed;) I've had my gen8 for about 2 months now and absolutely love it!! I'm with you on the stock tires and the bump steer, and for the hump, it's not to bad but it does kinda catch on the rocks. the only complaint that I have is the front wheel flares, be carful on your approach cuz I've snapped two sets already, the front end of the flare hits the rocks and breaks right at the first screw hole. with my new set I took some cheap dollar store epoxy and filled in the back of the flare to give it some beef, we'll see how that holds up.
It's a great truck for the money. The problem with trucks cheaper than this is that they end up needing more to perform as well. I love my Gen7, but my all-in budget for that truck was more than the Gen8 cost, and it didn't perform as well as the stock Gen8 does.
Love the Black on White combo :) I did Black with White top to look like an Axe body with the top on it :) Also have you considered putting an Axe body inside it for an interior and Cage? I have done it and love the scale look of it :) I even lowered the seats so I could put a driver and passenger in it if I wanted to.
great looking rig. if you do decide the servo upgrade i bought the DS3218 on amazon for 18$ and it has been awesome. So much so that i bought another for my TRX.
Sweet looking ride. 1st off, thanks for the easy explanation of what bump steer is. :) I didn't know although have heard of it. Makes sense. Anyways, the crawler looks great. Are you taking suggestions? Any plans to get an interior & driver figure in there? That'd be my request. Thanks for the great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the feedback! I thought about doing an interior, but I'm not sure how I want to do it yet. If I do one, I'll want to keep it as lightweight as possible, which means Lexan.
Great looking truck, my green one is coming tomorrow and I want to paint the roof white with some texture like yours, what exactly did you use on the roof, what was your process?
Did the kit (clear body) also come with clear window stickers for the outside? I noticed you had window edged on the outside. Didn’t know if they came clear, or you cut out the black portion, similar how the rtr window stickers come.
Redcat sells them, but in my case it was part of a limited number of pre-production trucks that Redcat sold to people who beta tested their portal axles. I have info in this video: ruclips.net/video/LMad_igeAEU/видео.html
How were you able to get the super swampers on new rims? I purchased 3 piece bead locker rims, but I can't get the tires on. I noticed that the mounting system on the redcat rims is different. The redcats have a Grove were the tire bead slips into. Any suggestions would be helpful .
There's nothing special about the redcat tires. They use the same style bead as most other crawler tires. I did have a LOT of difficulty with these wheels though because the wheels don't leave enough room for the bead. On these tires and on a set of Hyrax that I have on another set of identical wheels, I had to use a dremel to thin the bead on the tires and to clearance the inner wheel ring a bit.
I've only had it on the rocks a couple times, but my last outing was on some pretty gnarly rocks. It took its share of tumbles but the roof still looks brand new!
I just subscribe to your channel. And i simply love this color on this Gen 8. I would love to have some of your channel stickers. If so tell me how to inbox you my address?
I got a friend into the crawler hobby borrowing my spare rig. He is now saving up for this rig. Don’t think he is going to be disappointed
I'm definitely happy so far.
I know it’s a little late brother but the solution to the bump steer is the horn. Really love the paint, great work and the top looks excellent.
Trimming the steering horn helps, but the location still isn't any good.
