  • Here is one my mother used to make. It was such a treat to come home from school to find the smell of baking as we came through the door. The first room to visit was always the kitchen to see if there was a sample to be had.

Treacle looks to be a flavoring that you didn't add. People are making the syrup but not putting in treacle. How is it treacle then? Without the treacle it seems like a pecan pie with breadcrumbs instead

I see what you mean. It is quite confusing...😊
In Northern England, golden syrup is often called light treacle, and molasses is referred to as dark treacle. I can only guess that this is how it might have got its name. You certainly got me wondering there. Thanks for your great question.. 👍

I just made some of the black treacle and the flavor was very different than the golden syrup. The pie came out like your picture but didn't have much flavor

Golden syrup is nice and sweet and has a caramel flavour. Treacle has a very different taste and I can understand why it didn't taste very good...😕

You made me laugh with the comments about your teacher, brought back memories. Because I watch so many britcoms I know of this tart. Great and simple. I'll be trying that soon. Thanks for sharing

Awesome video! I have never heard of treacle tart, so thanks for teaching us.
Good tip about lifting your fingers so that you get air into the pastry.
I would never have thought about putting bread crumbs into a pie, but that filling looked amazing.
Very funny anecdote from your childhood! Making the woven lattice on the board and then transferring to the top of the tart sounds like it would be very hard--I think she wanted to see you struggle, I agree!
Thanks for sharing! This turned out great. Subbed for more!

I always thought treacle was like molasses in the USA . I think I have to go to an import store to find golden syrup . I don’t believe it’s like our corn syrup ! ☘️ 🏰 🐣

Yes, you are right; there are even some regional variations here. Calling golden syrup 'treacle' is a Yorkshire thing. In the south of England, 'treacle' is as you say, a black sticky syrup. It's an interesting old world...😁
