  • I'm doing something super exciting! I'm finally sharing the full process of the apartment building renovation / redesign! I check in on the renovation progress week by week to see exactly what the building owner went with, how much of MY designs he liked, and how the building design turned out! This apartment makeover is so transformational and is really stunning! The old building needed some serious design help and the end designs are so much better!

Don't know if you've talked about this at all, but you should totally style a unit for the photos!! It would be a great video to end this project on for us as well, and I think the owner who hired you would really see why you picked what you picked.

I’m so stoked that it was rented out before it was even finished! Are you kidding??? That’s the best sign you killed it!

All tenants prefer white. That way if you lean toward a bright colorful home, gray or beige based. It looks good no matter what. Touch up painting is easy and magic erasers work well. Touch up paint pens are priceless.
I’m so glad he didn’t go with that other counter. It would have looked cheap. Stone counters really are a given for middle class rentals and up. Especially if you want to collect top rate rent. Wish they would have done the tiles vertical. And a stone waterfall island would have been a home run. Also butcher block on the island and stone around the rear counters is always an option.

Your design was beautiful. I think that was a great experience for you to go through. It allowed you to see that you can do ANYTHING, in spite of anxiety challenges you encounter, which appears, you have passed from what you've shared. Having your husband and family support was a HUGE part of assisting you through this. Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm so pumped that the landlord listened to most of your suggestions!!! I was wondering about this project! Great job and I can totally understand the added stress of a project like this.

Love it! I love how he really listened to your suggestions and I think him already getting a tenant proved that your choices are really want people like to see nowadays! Our whole apartment was white as well and honestly I always thought that was the normal and easiest to do so I’m surprised the maintenance there said the opposite.

the struggle of the process ( like pitching the ideas, persuasion etc) sometimes don't matter when the result is so rewarding. This is something I usually tell myself when I work with some difficult stakeholders on the project. It usually turns out great and the joy of eveyone involved is worth it)) But every situation is different and I totally understand how you wouldn't take another request like that. It still is so so great, I'd also move in there as soon as I saw it tbh))))

SO PROUD OF YOU (commenting from my work YT lol) but SIS!! This owner saw your vision and while there were times he wanted to sway even in the slightest, having that tenant showing and them loving it and wanting to move in right away had to be icing on the cake, knowing he made the right decisions to trust your vision, suggestions, and hard work. Such a validating moment for you (hopefully!), as I know that would have been for me. Loved that you stayed true to yourself and the design choices you felt would appeal to the 25-35 aged crowd, because when we love it, we will stay for a long time! I hope you will use this to add to your design portfolio. You are extremely talented!!! Excited to see it all tied in with the black appliances and as someone mentioned below, I would also enjoy seeing if the owner will allow you to stage one of the units. Not only do I think you have great aesthetic styling choices, I think it will be beneficial to the owner because when a prospective tenant comes to view a staged unit they can easily see how they could decorate and utilize the space and the will sell them even quicker! Most apartment complexes have one "showroom" unit nowadays so it definitely couldn't hurt! NEED PART 5! lol GREAT JOB!!!!! And Mr. Owner, if you are reading the comments, Great Job to you too and thanks you for allowing us to follow this journey from start to finish, and I appreciate you for being so open to all of Dalia's designs choices and going with the majority of them.. just that one unit alone looks amazing. I'm 33 and would rent after the upgrades!

The first time is always the hardest. It will become easier and more natural to you with each job you do. Sorta like the first two weeks on a new job are the most difficult. Soon, you wonder what you thought was difficult about it.

What you said about knowing what is good for you & then despite well meaning encouragement from others = sticking to what you know will work for your own mental health - is such a brave thing to do!! I struggle with anxiety. I am making the stuffing & green beans for Thanksgiving after volunteering bcse I was feeling it the day even tho I have not been socially involved with family or friends in 2 years Everyone in my family is so excited I wanted to be involved. Now, after not showering in an embarrassing amount of time =- I am having a small freak-out about doing said things & showering & making myself presentable for Thanksgiving ( at my mom's downstairs ). I am just trying to breathe & I know it will be fine - what you said just really resonated with me & I am 56yrs old! Crazy to write that since I don't feel a day over 35 in a lot of ways but sometimes I feel like I am 102! RUclips has been an escape as well as an encouragement for me & sometimes I just want to stay here at my desk & watch videos & live vicariously through others & you are one of those people Dalia =- You have such a calm way about you! But I know all too well how our outside can belie what is happening on the inside and It took me a Long time to be able to live outloud the way I felt on the inside but I am trying to find that medium space..... Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You are an amazing woman even if you don't feel that way all the time! Much Love ♥

"Sometimes people see the value in something that may not be right for you"
I played this back several times because I think it's good advice to follow.
Reminder that's it's ok to get suggestions but you make your own decisions based on what you feel is right for you.

As someone who worked in a paint store I can say white right out of the can without any tint in it is the absolute easiest to maintain. You just need to remember the brand and type of paint not colour

He really took things into consideration and not just he chose something because he could, I think you both were really respectful of each other. I like the backsplash. I'd probably like it both ways. The colors of everything probably speak to a lot of different people which is what sells the units! Great job!!

I can so relate to what you experienced. I love planning and designing kids birthday parties…….MY KIDS birthday parties. I can not see myself ever doing it for someone else. I feel like my creativity would first of all just freeze and then once it got going, the nervousness of not meeting someone else’s expectations, would then kick in. Thing is though, I have never tried it to actually know. Good for you for going for it. That is inspiring. Your designs were beautiful.

Yay! I was so eagerly awaiting an update on this project!! I’m so so happy to see everything came together so nicely and the building owner understood and moved forward with most of your recommendations. The fact that the new tenants were so eager to move in and loved the place really speaks to the new brighter vibe of the apartment and shows this was really the best investment of longevity in the building that the owner could make. Bravo
While everything came together so well ultimately, it’s totally understandable this isn’t the direction you want to move forward in your career. I’m happy for you that you’re staying true to yourself and your vision of want you want for your life and career. That strong sense of self that you have is what kicked off this journey for you originally 😌👏🏻

I'm a renter living with white walls right now... It is NOT harder to maintain than any other color. Being able to keep the wall clean or not will depend on how EASY the paint is to clean stuff off of (aka the quality of the paint), not the color. If they don't want to do stark-white, they can do some kind of light egg-shell colors.
