Having seen Hum several times in the 90's, it seems Matt headbangs more on TV. Which if you know anything about him, Im sure it was all the nervous energy of being in front of TV cameras. But seeing them live was always incredible.
Yeah bro, i mean im only know about Dave of Nirvana and Erick of STP..but now i found this.. And he is really a Beast sith those kicks and Beats, fuck yeahhh lml
Uuummmm Vinnie Paul was on a whole different level of drumming in the 90s. Although this guy's pretty good, he doesn't even come close to Best drummer of the 90s
Thanks for preserving this. Jeff's bass sounds fantastic even through the VHS crust, and so many good closeups of Tim absolutely shredding, love all the broken strings. RIP Bryan, huge influence on my playing.
@@jackgalardi691 A lot of the foundation for modern Midwest emo came directly from this area. It's nuts. When that sub genre got it's moment in the sun around 2013 with bands like Algernon Cadwallader and Snowing it was mostly because the Champaign scene had already dared to do math/shoegaze with emo and alt rock a decade earlier.
It’s such a shame all the live performances like this from Hum, seems to be just vhs recordings converted. I hate to think of how many performances are lost because of older saved formats.
The tape had been through absolute hell. It was shredded a bit at this part from an old vcr. This was the best it could be unfortunately--although it does add a nice retro quality imo.
Matt reminds me of my ex boyfriend Nick, I took his virginity and he taught me how to pirate music online, very cute but always broke and then he moved on to heroin and we had to break up
Goodbye, Bryan. You were a monster on the drums.
I'm always amazed how his glasses stay on his face
Every recording of Stars is personalized
stop, that meme is dry and regurgitated.
@@ChristopherGray00 but he’s right
@@ChristopherGray00lmao calm down man
Amazing band, their latest album Inlet is as nostalgic and powerful as they were in the 90s
Is it weird I love the vhs quality? Makes it even more authentic!
sadly it is not weird in the least. We'll all soon be dust and bones soon enough anyway... so enjoy!🎉

@@lordhammerwind how is that. corny, vhs and hi8 looks sick
I thought they were referring to the edgelord @ryambler. Vhs had always looked cool@@daskrunkly3213

This performance rocks so hard the VHS tape can barely contain it.
This is so damn powerful it's destroying the tape as I watch! No 90s drummer was more monster than Bryan St. Pere.

St. Pere is in the same league as Jimmy Chamberlin or Matt Cameron. 3 amazing 90s alt drummers

@@flippertheslid3642 Well, Vinnie Paul wasnt even the most competent metal drummer of the time. That aside, it's a different style of drumming.
Saw them at an outdoor show in the late 90s, it was absolutely the loudest thing that day and man it absolutely slapped.
It's incredible that at one time we recorded our history on unpredictable shitty VHS tapes.
The vhs tracking is the icing on the cake
Holy shit they fucking *brought it*. Insane energy.

Champaign actually has a pretty nice history in music for a smallish college city.
Braid, hum, american football, the promise ring. The whole pioneering emo scene
@@jackgalardi691 those are my favorites but don't forget the bigger bands like reo speedwagon or wilco.
@@jackgalardi691 true. My favorite bands came from out midwest.

One of the best breakdowns these two ears have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

they have so many good songs stars might break the top ten for me. might.
RIP Bryan St. Pierre
Thanks for this!
You gotta have real men in society in order to write sweet jams like this
Nothing better than seeing Jon introduce Hum or Conan introduce Radiohead back in the 90's
I love hum!
This is so Cool ,it's been awhile, still the same feel...ty
OH HELL YES GIVE ME ALL THE HUM
One of my favorite sounds in existence is hitting that low string a little too hard and getting that sweet sweet "bwow"

Who wants to see a Jamie Walters and Hum US tour?!?!? Would be hilariously epic! A total middle finger to the modern mainstream entertainment machine.

weird story bro
Sounds like some guy talking to his mom and testing a DOD Death Metal pedal at Guitar Center, while the rhythm section plays Jeremy by Pearl Jam.
