I read through the books I borrow from local libraries. Then, I make a mental note to purchase them (physical copies, of course) at a later time if I decide that they are worth keeping. That little economic strategy might be good to consider for some people. Great show, gentlemen.
Agreed. We have to be on-guard against the consumerist trend to merely acquire for some outward appearance or status. Here in the Western World this mindset has been ingrained within us. Blessings!
Augustine wrote like 12000 pages, you literally can't read everything, doesn't mean you can't collect things, especially when you are a parent, heck my church has given me like 3 copies of one single scott hahn and brant pitre book
how do you know? ive known lots of people who loved to read but i seldom witnessed them reading and they seldom saw me reading even tho ive read vastly
Excellent, Connor. I bet you have beaten me to a number of Half Price Book stores. I cannot count the number of times all I find are poor modern books in the Catholic section. I now know who to blame for grabbing up all the solid material. 😉

GK Chesterton should go into your library - He writes apologetics, poetry, novels, etc. love reading his work. The American Story: The Beginnings by David and Tim Barton is a great historical book that examines American history through the lens of God working providentially in the founding of our country.
Hi @ajgaming7435, great question. I can say that we must start by knowing ourselves. Due to the nature of social media and our modern lifestyles most individuals have been conditioned out of being able to read for extended periods of time. This is a muscle and habit that needs to be trained. As such, reading along with audiobooks, or just listening to audiobooks can be a great way to train yourself. I know that both Sam and I enjoy audiobooks. However, physical books carry a visual reminder to us to stop what we are doing and read. If you are father, it also sets forth the importance of reading and growing in knowledge to your children (albeit, you have to actually read them :) ). Sam and I have discussed kindle books as well and we both personally struggle to commit to reading in that format. Not that it is not possible but removing ourselves from electronics as frequently as possible is a goal. Blessings, John
@@TheCatholicGentleman Thank you I do also have my own mini library” of around 30 books I don’t have as much space. But I found that going to the Library helps.
Obviously the Holy Bible (I like Douay-Rheims or Knox for prayer but rsvce 2nd edition for study), Orthodoxy by Chesterton, The Imitation of Christ by Kempis, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkien, Dracula by Stoker.
Every person should try to cultivate the habit of reading, and LIMIT his TV and internet time. Reading books (not comic books) is a great habit. TV is no match for it.
perusing the internet IS reading and a person is far more likely to learn useful, up to date info online rather than from books..as far as tv, that doesnt exist in my world anymore.
To this I must add the preservation, translation, commentary, and retransmission of Classical works from Baghdad's House of Wisdom, a critical path to saving many Greek writings. Other Islamic authorities in Morocco and El Andalus (Spain) also contributed.

Something that would be awesome to see is something on St Jacob and wrestling. Maybe get a Olympic wrestler on. I think Kyle Snyder is a devote catholic and there are several others I'm sure. I really enjoyed the podcast Bas Rutten. Thanks for teaching me so much guys. I've truly furthered my faith through this channel. God bless

@@zlee4019 That's a little harsh. I can't say I'm a big collector of comic books but the last #WonderWoman book I bought had nice art even if the story was kinda naff.

Building a library is great... as long as you actually read them. A lot of people just gather them, stack them up but read very little.

Because a library is a great place to keep your pipes ;)
A least a basic medical dictionary or something of that nature.
What about audiobooks how do you compare them to physical and kindle books?

What are some books you think every man should have in his collection?
As a Catholic who is also a literature nerd, Augustine's Confession is a must

The Glories of Mary, The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood and Don Quixote
I'm now reading "Be A Man" by Fr .Larry Richards It's very much in keeping with the teachings of Catholic Gentleman.
The Catholic Gentleman by a Mr. Sam Guzman needs to be in there!

Sadly about 75% of my library consists of comic books and graphic novels 😆
Haha, nothing wrong with a good graphic novel! God bless, Mike!

99% of them are NOT worth reading.
