Patrice helped Prince get his record deal & he had a crush on her. He wrote I Feel For You about her & later allowed Chaka Khan to record it. Patrice was best friends with bassist Larry Graham's 1st wife, but fell for him. The affair broke that friendship & marriage. Thankfully now she's been married to someone else over 30 years. Quite a masterful artist, she. Sings and plays all those keys, Rhodes electric piano (the solo), the funky MiniMoog synth bass, a wah-wah clavinet (like Stevie Wonder's "Superstition"). "Forget Me Nots" is another one of her jams. Old school, this. 70s & 80s. "Dazz," by Brick was around that time, too.

Yes indeed, back in the 70’s and 80’s, we were spoiled by the top notch level of talent that artists had to have to be successful , real singers, matched with real songwriters matched with real musicians , you just didn’t get a record contract if you had no talent at a high level. So we were full of hit after hit after hit of great music and artistry . Patrice was successful because she had a level of talent higher than most , she was a songwrighter, singer, but also a master musician that could play many instruments , and was a master in jazz and well as R&B. The last 20 or 30 odd years she has devoted most of her talent to jazz, which was her first love, as she had played with the best jazz greats already as a young teenager. Before Alicia Keys and H.E.R., who are both known for their musicianship as well as their singing, there was Patrice Rushen.

This album.is a musical journey and every song on it is fire. Couple of the songs that I think that you could do a good reaction on off the album is "The Changing Times" and "I've Had Enough". They are two awesome tracks and they jam. Jam means they rock the house.

Fantastic. She was such a young prodigy. I believe you will enjoy Miki Howard, Love Under New Management, too.
Have any of the recommended artists made it to your regular playlists and have you recommended them to others?

oh YES! this was the truth in the 1980s. the fusion of jazz, soul, and r&b is off the chain. Patrice Rushen is one of a handful of black women that produced, arranged, and wrote for a lot of people. there weren't a lot of back women producing on this level in the '80s. this sister was a trailblazer. a musical prodigy. a professor of music today at a college. check out mary j bliges version of "remind me"

Music is corrupted these days.It is not about artistry anymore. That is why singers from generation are still having their music played 30,40 even 50 years later and people still never tire of listening to music that is timeless

This sister is the truth! She played most of the instruments in this cut and is a master producer and composer. She is also a favorite of Kirk Franklin to sample like "Haven't You Heard?"
