  • Spotting the oriental honey-buzzard, in its natural habitat, whose favourite foods is bee and wasp larvae and nest.
The name “honey buzzard” is a misnomer.
They undoubtedly ingest some honey when they raid a bee's nest, but consuming the sweet substance isn't their objective. Unlike other birds of prey, honey buzzards are primarily insectivores. Though their staple foods are wasp and bee larvae, they also consume young birds and frogs.
    Oriental Honey-buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus)
The Oriental honey buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus) belongs to the family Accipitridae.
Honey buzzards are medium-sized raptors that earned their names by raiding the nests of bees and wasps.
honey buzzards are sexually dimorphic, which means that males and females look different, which is rare for birds of prey.
Adult males with darker iris and grey mask-like face, dark bill seen in adults.
The male buzzard is long-necked with a small blue-grey head with a short head crest. The tail is long and darker with a white band. The back is brown and the underparts are paler. The female has a brown head.
Although adult males are supposed to have darker iris and adult females lighter or yellow iris, this apparently does not always hold true.
