    There’s definitely a subtle difference in the Bruxa’s scream attack before and after being affected by black blood. I never noticed it before, but putting them side by side makes it much more obvious. Small but curious detail!

    Well, Avallac'h's note was certainly interesting, I've always found him the most compelling character, simply because his motives and thinking were so hard to predict in the game, and he always seemed to be 2 steps ahead of everyone else (MF took a potion from Keira to soften the effect on his neurological system because he knew of Ciri's association with the Witchers and that they'd likely be the ones who'd find him and that they'll use decoctions of the grasses to lift his curse, now that's very impressive!) When he mentioned that Ciri is so much like Lara when talking about her agreeing to have a child with Auberon, what is he even referring to? It's not like Lara went ahead and had a child with the person she was promised to for the good of the Aen Elle, she did the exact opposite and had a relationship with a human. Maybe he does find it admirable that like Lara, Ciri doesn't discriminate against the other race and in fact wants good for both, not minding getting into interracial relationships, even though Lara's choice was a personal blow to him.
    I guess, we won't find out what his thoughts on Ciri were, but I've always had an inkling that he might actually have some romantic feelings towards her. He drew her portraits, mentions that Elder Blood (by extension Lara which he was in love with), is known to be hot-blooded just like Ciri so I suspect that's his type. He also seems visibly upset when Ge'els mentioned his previous treatment of her. But the biggest giveaway is the she-elf, she's treating Ciri like a rival and let me tell you what she's saying is pure BS. We do in fact know that Ciri shares a lot of features with Lara, so the drinking water from a puddle of Mudd comment is not meant to reflect reality but to insult Ciri. I suspect she could have twisted Avallac'h's words the same way, let's say he's just mentioned that she's a handful, and she twisted it into you're always doing the dumbest shit and he can't wait to get rid of you. So in other words the she elf was trying to damage their relationship out of jealousy. As for Ciri, she did enjoy travelling the worlds with him and learning, she does seem to be fond of him, after all she started trusting and relying on him after the Auberon fiasco.
    The thing is, if they were going for hinting that Avallac'h is interested in Ciri romantically, why the hell did they make him look so old? A girl barely in her 20s and a guy nearing 50s is hardly an appealing type of relationship for most people and Witcher III did target younger audience. As I understand Aen Elle in the books were handsome and somewhat young looking even when being hundreds of years old, but they kinda missed the mark with the design of all of them so what can we say (just look at Eredins face aka some boring dark lord type villain lol).

    • @AliveIsAll_I_am
      @AliveIsAll_I_am 2 года назад +13

      I totally agree with you that Avallac'h has some romantic feelings for Ciri at least a little, and all of the things you've mentioned about them are spot on. However I've always felt that their relationship was not meant to be viewed as romantic by neither the book readers or by players for a lot of reasons, only some of which are their actual difference in age, experience and worldviews. In fact to me Avallac'h's romantic inclinations, slight as they might be, are quite off-putting, and I think they were meant to be seen that way hence his appearance reflecting his age, even though in the books it was stated many times that it is next to impossible to tell the age of an elf that is Aen Sidh. But I do feel that he cares for Ciri as a person at least somewhat.

    • @nasiransari9761
      @nasiransari9761 2 года назад +5

      Agree with you tough disagree regarding the age difference. I mean the witcher universe is based and inspired by medieval Europe. The average life exptancy for the Commonor was 30 and at best 50 and thats not counting wars, plagues and famines. Girls were considered women when they hit puberty and were mothers thrice over before they reached 20. This is a clear hard fact and when viewing mediums like ASOIAF, LOTR and the Witcher you need to keep these realities in mind

    • @AliveIsAll_I_am
      @AliveIsAll_I_am 2 года назад +6

      @@nasiransari9761 I understand your point, but I'm not sure you got what I meant. The things you speak about do exist in the the Witcher world and are addressed by the author several times, however there is a clear difference when it's for example Geralt and Yen then Avallac'h and Ciri. I originally thought that Geralt was around 70-80 years old, and Yennefer is stated to be 94 in the last book as far as I can recall (but this looks to be incorrect as most of the fandom has concluded Geralt is around 90-100 years old - so actually close to Yen's age). This kind of age difference (as was perceived by me) is fine since they are both adults with several lifetimes of experiences. But Ciri is a young woman even by the Witcher's world standards, while Avallac'h is centuries of years old. I hope you can't possibly think is okay for a guy several centuries old to be with a 20-something girl...

    • @minam1982
      @minam1982 2 года назад +3

      @@AliveIsAll_I_am I think your reasoning is correct. I think that's why they also aged some of the characters in the game to make it more appropriate. Well, one example with a huge age gap would be Shani and Geralt, if I had to guess in the first game she was in her early 20s as well. But setting that aside, I agree that Avallac'h and Ciri's relationship going romantic would be off. Ciri is not mature enough. Anything more than what had been shown in the game and things could get very creepy very quickly, not to mention introduce an unhealthy power dynamic.
      That being said, if we ever get another Witcher game, I would love to have an older Ciri as the main protagonist and could see Ciri X Avallac'h happening then. I think their relationship and especially exploring how they handle their differences would make for an interesting story. There's enough back story for some organic drama and enough hints and appreciation between the two to have some heartfelt moments. Their relationship could be a success or a failure, but I'd be really disappointed if it was all brushed aside. Maybe that's just me, but I'm salty we weren't shown what happened with Aen Elle and that the whole human-elven conflict was kinda passed over at the end of Witcher 3. Avallac'h just disappeared without a mention too. Another Witcher game could resolve that and the other dropped plot lines.

      Nah the elf is a high quality level liar and agenda pusher. He trains people and plays them like puppets. In the end everything is just a cog in the system to him. Elves live too long to care about humans. Isn’t Regis like that? Doesn’t he mention something like that? Doesn’t Regis (the most trustworthy character) think little of him? Dude is peculiar and shady. His mystique isn’t charming it’s alarming.

    Amazing as always the smallest details are often the finest, thanks for this! Definitely a slight difference in the Bruxa's scream it's a miracle you caught it as well as the note on Auberon. I believe Avallac'h and the female elf did have something maybe not love but if I recall Ciri notes that she has seen her in Tir ná Lia and there was indeed a female elf conversing with Avallac'h before Ciri was to meet him one day. At the end he threw her a kiss as she was leaving although if I remember correctly the elf woman in the books had blonde hair but hey Triss' hair in the games was different too.
    In my opinion the whole Avallac'h and Ciri thing is a bit of a weak point. Given all the events in Lady of the Lake Ciri just happens to trust Avallac'h because he somehow gave up on capturing her for the Aen Elle's needs and convinced her he now wishes to help because of Eredin and that the White Frost is imminent? Okay let's say you could justify that but then at the end he just vanishes and forgets about Ciri (speaking about the she lives scenario)? Think Ge'els asked the right question about what would happen after Eredin's death namely the King Avallac'h joke.

    Psychologist here. My take on Avallac'h motivation is that even if he was using Ciri cold-heartedly in the beginning and somehow manipulated her into taking up a very dangerous mission, he definitely grew on her in the time of their travels. There is no chance you will risk your life for somebody, suffer a curse and still hate them. Your psyche won't let you to do that in order to prevent cognitive dissonance (how come i helped a person I dislike?). Secondly, there is a very clear inclination towards (perhaps subconscious) romantic relationship between both Avallac'h and Ciri (she talks about him, like, very often and she is far too distressed after visiting Avallac'h's laboratory considering she herself told that he was after her power). Portraits are clearly of her and not Lara bc of clothes. In addition to that, they don't look like matter of fact pics needed to identify the person. Maybe he told himself he's doing that just to document Ciri's appearance or that he even draws Lara in order to deny his fancy of Ciri but to me it looks obvious (And to Yennefer as she tells him he's obsessed). As for she-elf was clearly speaking out of jealousy.
    P. S. In this take I leave out book's characterization.

      It truly makes sense! In my first play through I tried to calm Ciri down after she was furious about Avallac'h (which with another bad choice led me to the worst ending). I remember I was kinda aware of the mysterious character of Avallac'h and felt that he didn't completely use Ciri, even if it was his first intention. It was obvious that he had deep feeling for Ciri and I didn't wanted her to lose that kind of friend.

    Here’s something I picked up on:
    Tamara Strenger, the Bloody Baron’s Daughter, was (probably) originally supposed to be a sorceress. There’s still some hints in the game
    -she has the crude doll of Triss the Baron made for her as a child
    -when you show up to the house in Oxenfurt, there’s a conspicuous cat sitting on the table. Cats in the Witcher world are attracted to sources of magic.
    -don’t you think there was something missing at the end of the questline concerning Tamara? Like, the Baron and his wife get pretty conclusive endings, ambiguous or not, but Tamara just goes with the witch-hunters never to be seen again. What happens to her, and the squad of witch-hunters?
    I’d conjecture that there’s a cut subplot about Tamara being a Source, the witch-hunters finding out and maybe having Tamara join the mages in Novigrad that Triss helps. The leader of that squad is also a rather unique character, basically the only decent one of his profession we meet. I assume that there was going to be an event that allows Tamara to escape, the success of which depended on our interactions with him.

    I think that Avallac'h sees Ciri in two ways:
    - he doesn't care for her as a human, nor does he respect "sub-species" like humans
    - he respects the power that Ciri has and probably views her as more of a thief of magic than anything, that the magic truly belongs to the elves

  • @gahlster
    @gahlster 2 года назад +49

    And about Avalac'h and what he thinks of Ciri. He has done a lot of pairing the right elves together to get the most desirable offsprings or at least have great knowledge of it(Caranthir). When he first meets Ciri I believe he can only see Cregennan of Lod, who he never has forgiven, in her and that's why he is so cold and unpolite at the same time polite to her. But the more they spend time with her he starts to see Lara Dorren in her, or more likely the daughter he would so much have wanted with Lara. Because of that he is always looking out for the best for Ciri but it seem, odd to us mere humans as he is not only an Aen Elle but also an Aen Saevherne. Or that's how I think about him.
    All in all I think he is a great character that you can not only like or dislike but also go back and forth between disliking and liking.
    PS. You surely have found the artistic paraphernalia in the Kaer Morhen area. Do you believe as I that it could belong to Avalac'h? DS.

    Solaris is unlike anything you might be expecting - be warned. It is a more psychological book, that tries to ask a question whether humans can really communicate with other, alien lifeforms.
    The thing about blacksmith is that he is intentionally non-interactive after quest involving him (for about a week). But somehow this effects spills to time even before and after his quest.
    What I did is to meditate for 1 hour near him. If he was still unavailable then I would repeat the process. Also he sometimes is interactive even if there is no 'blacksmith' icon on map.
    When it comes to Avallach - he is openly admitting that he cares only for Elder Blood in Ciri, but he is an elven schemer and manipulator. He cares about Ciri more than he admits, something that seems obvious after seeing his drawings of her, and conversation with female elf that states 'he talks about Ciri all the time' - and he is not a talkative person. There is something more - like a lingering feeling for Lara that manifests in his fascination with Ciri.

    You can talk to the blacksmith if you meditate an hour or two. Tells you a story about a talking axe, always wondered where it can be found, I couldn't see it in his inventory, or it didn't look remarkable. He tells you several stories if you keep asking him to. Oh, maybe the bug is only fixable on playstation. Typing while I'm watching this. Interesting, about the Bruxa scream. Love little details like that. As for Avellac'h, I think that he just cares about her because she is dangerous and that is enough. Most Elves hate us, so it's good enough in my eyes. As always, great video, thank you for all the hard work to bring us joy❤️

    7:30 talking to the Kaer Trolde blacksmith. I talked to him during my first visit to the castle, and second time during a quest to inform him about the tragedy. And this is where the bug really stands in the way, but, it helps to meditate a couple hours, but not too close to him, somewhere near the steps to their 'pit' will do nicely. And if not try doing it once or twice again, it should work. P.S. it's the PC version.

    Thanks again for a great video xLetalis!
    I completely missed the monument about Whispess in Tousount!
    I had the impression that the Crones were like their "Mother", never human, but beings of magic. Is there any other history of the Crones early lives, or how they became so monstrous???
    I'd really love to know more about them and their Mother!

    Concerning Avallac´h... This is one of the very few things I really dont like about the game. Like you said, its kind of a mystery what he really thinks about Ciri, the conflict of humans and elves, etc.
    This is fine, if you havnt read the books. But after reading them, I simply cannot believe his character. He deceived Ciri into this horrible thing with the Elven King (you talked about it already) and now, I shall believe, without any hint or explanation that hes with us? I know, trusting him is the right choice in the end, because I already played the game. But when I want to roleplay Geralt, I simply cannot bring myself to trust him. Maybe I missed something in the books, but I really cannot see Geralt trusting him after what he planned with Ciri.
    But the game completely ignores these events, in some interactions, it even somewhat shames you for not trusting him. Geralt could just say something like :"Hey, I remember your stupid plan" and it would be "ok". Avallac´h could answer in one sentence that he changed his mind, or whatever, and I wouldnt care that much.
    But as it is in the game, I simply think they want us to ignore his past (not even mentioning it to the player). But I dont know why...

    This is so interesting. I have just played and finished the Witcher 3 for the first time and it has devoured me for months. Next I’ll have to read the books and then I’ll play for a second time. It’ll probably take years but I just love the details. Lots of RUclips videos to watch in between!

    For the Bruxa scream it really do sound different. Not different enough to notice right away or at all if you aren't keen on all the small details.
    It is a really cool detail and I applaud CD for putting so much love and care for the game.

    I think I had managed to talk to the blacksmith outside of that point.
    Far as I remember if you save and then reload, you will be able to talk to him.
    I had done his quests both times I have played so far, and I didn't leave Yennefer.
    Played on PC by the way, unfortunately I can't test this right now as I don't have the game installed.

      Yes, I did that same quest that way a month ago.
      Just stand next to him, save game, go to menu, reload and there you have it, now we can talk to him. :)
      Pretty surprised xLetalis didn't know this :P It's written on the wikia page too.

    I figured the Blacksmith out, he is only available for talk at certain hours in the in-game day time, don't remember when exactly though, probably at the end of his "office hours"?. Nothing to do with the funeral quest or meditating or reloading. I finished him long after the funeral quest while clearing last remaining side quests on Skellige. Fun to see so many people commenting about that blacksmith, glad to be one of them :D

    Blacksmith is bugged in PS4 as well, but meditating fixes him and you can interact with him normally. Typically he starts bugged, you meditate, and then he's fine.

    Another great video. I didn't discover most of these things before my third play through. Also, so much about the games became much clearer after reading the books. This may be really old news, but I haven't watched all the details missed videos, nor read all the comments from 6 years worth of videos. Anyway, has anyone else noticed an almost total lack of NPCs, both male and female, in the roughly 12 to 17 year old age range? There's one female NPC bopping around some villages in Velen for sure...and maybe in Toussaint also? She's the same model in both places.
    Out of all the female NPCs to have matured physical attributes, she's one of the very rare female NPCs to wear a short dress. Blue, thigh length dress IIRC, and a hair style kinda like Rita Laux-Antille. Is it possible that would have anything to do with designating her as a younger age, say second half of teenage years, from the dev's perspective on normally accepted dress for a given age range in the world? There may be one other NPC, different skin, also in Toussaint I think, who is in a thigh length dress. But it's super rare to see in the game.

    You're right about the screams! It's like the black blood takes a lot of mph out of her. Is the effect of the scream reduced too?
    Also, Avallache is essentially a jilted lover. Any affection he feels for Ciri would result from his feelings for Lara, and not Ciri herself, most likely. So, yes, I think he cares, but... from a degree of emotional distance.

    6:55...you can most definitely interact with this blacksmith, you just have to meditate for an hour, and then you will be able to interact with him. If he is not there then you have to meditate several hours until he is there, and then if you still cant interact with him you will have to meditate another hour so that you can interact with him. I sell all of my swords to him later in the game, as he offers pretty decent prices and has about $7,000 available (he doesn't offer quite as much a blacksmith I found in Velen, but the Velen blacksmith's available money quickly goes to about $300 after you get to Skelige, so he is not very useful anymore). Hopefully this helps!

    There is a difference in the Apiarian Phantom quest if you’ve met rico before. An extra dialogue option where Geralt asks “Any relation to Rico mieldorlf?” The dad replies “Yes my youngest son, fled the family business to seek fortune in the big city. Do you know him?” Geralt than says “yes but that’s not why I’m here.”

    This Blacksmith on Kear Trolde has some bugs on PS4 too, but you can access him. You need to meditate in front of him for an hour and he can be accessed without any problems. Actually, He doesn't talk only about one sword, but few of them. Not sure if it happens in English version of the game, but in it does in Polish.

    I once stumbled upon a quest that quickly disappeared (not sure if it was an actual quest). But there was a woman in Novigrad screaming for help cause a man was bothering her (I’m pretty sure there was a ! above her). When Geralt went to help her she was a bit embarrassed and it was apparently their “gameplay” to spice up the relationship. The quest disappeared quickly the moment you tried to help her. And it never showed again (in my second play through). I couldn’t find any info about it either. Maybe someone saw this quest as well?

    Awesome videos! Only recently started watching them so I haven't gone through all of them so I wouldn't know whether you have covered this detail before. This is something I came across recently while going through the quest to look through Phillipas hideout. Only after looting the first bloodied agate you can walk out from the room and follow a glitched out witcher scent to the bottom of the tilted floor to find something else and get another piece of investigation dialogue.

    Another small detail I encountered in the quest Now or never - if you decide to go save the two missing mages, you arrive at their place seeing that the owners of the house sold them to the witch hunters. The detail I noticed is that after you defeat the witch hunters, you can go talk to the owners and there is a unique dialogue, where you can decide to punch the owner or let them go.

    Definitely a change in the scream, almost like the black blood scarred her vocal cords. You are not imagining it, I can hear it. Also, dang, those cosplayers.
    As for Avallac'h ... I think you being unsure is the point. Age changes us, perhaps caring for Ciri + using her like a weapon is the very point. Both because he is not human and because he is so old, so wise/worldly, that he is unable to see her just as one or the other. Intelligence and wisdom can grow when you grow older, but not emotions. So he does what his thinking mind tells him but cannot entirely see her as a tool, thus creating this state of uneasyness players feel. One step away from the caring elven grandfather, one step away from the cold hearted Aen Elle.
