Just picked one up from a pawn shop simply because of how good it looked, and then upon seeing that great big oval with the 11 in the middle. Gotta say great investment overall: cheap ammo, really soft recoil and of course my favorite part being that its a classic all steel gun. It’s definitely weighty for its size at 22 oz unloaded, but sits quite well in the hand and tends to make it feel balanced rather than barrel or frame heavy. If you see one, grab it before someone else does. Great review, i was amazed at the performance on the clays and how with a clean hit in the center wouldn’t totally destroy it.
I do penetration tests using plastic gallon jugs of water...count how many jugs a round penetrates, but I don't expect to run such a test on the Makarov round in the near future.
Honestly, I can't speak a word of Polish...just English and some really rusty French. But I appreciate hearing from my Polish subscribers. Especially on the P-64 video.
Is nice to watching polish military and militia gun in action on your channel. I have exactly the same beret when i was in military service 1998-1999 lol
I've read that the double action is ridiculous, I've also read that the trigger pull was necessary to strike the hard primers of the day because it shared that 9x18 cartridge with a few open bolt smg's (pm63). Thank You for the reply.
I like your enthusiasm and attention to details in all your reviews, demo's and videos... I especially like seeing you get into character and set the mood with your hats. Poor evil Roy... Keep them shooting.
This Christmas we were siting all around the table, listening life story's of the elders and my grandpa was a paratrooper for the polish army he said that him and his squad were on a training drill miles away from anyone and he was attacked by four wild bores, so he set off four shots and killed every single one from point blank with this pistol.
hey Mike! have a great christmas, really enjoy your vids, also laden with history about the firearms, I will be purchasing one of these soon after tax season. take care!
You know what makes your videos so much fun to watch? Seeing how much you enjoy talking about and shooting these guns. It seems like an obvious comparison, what with out looking so much like a PPK, how does the 9mm makorov compare with the . 380? Keep up the great videos! I'm dying for the Taylor's No. 3 frontier!
I know you can get a set of springs through Wolff to make the trigger pull better on these. I decided though for the money I was able to spring for a Beretta Nano simply because I already have a 9mm pistol and wanted to only have to get ammo in one caliber which makes it a bit more cost effective even though the 9mm Makarov isn't that expensive.
Just remember to find the manual online. The mags are meant to be taken apart and cleaned after shooting. The mags get gun residue in them when you fire the gun. So if you reload the mag and shoot without cleaning the gun will malfunction.
My dad had this as his service pistol, Border Guard Major, am quite surprised with its popularity in USA. I know it is good for concealed carry and self defense so I guess that might be the reason. Thanks for the vid and Dzień Dobry ;)
From the beginning of 90' (and year 56 in some inner rings) we dont use Comrade after Dzień dobry as long as u still want to have all teeth in your mouth... Fine review.
I think I am in the minority here because the P-64 (vintage 1971) I just recently bought is beautiful. The bluing looks new and the overall build quality is excellent. It is a joy to shoot and is extremely accurate, but I agree with others that the double action is too strong (supposedly more than 30 lbs). I definitely recommend replacing the springs. I got the 18 lb one from Wolff and the DA is so much better. The SA is around 4 lbs now.
Can't say that I love the Polish P-64 because it still bites the web of my hand, although a rubberized sleeve improved the the situation. After I changed the main spring, the trigger pull is acceptable, the pistol is robust, performs better than a Walter PPK, the ammunition is less expensive and more effective, and the accuracy superb. I love the all steel construction and use it as my personal side arm. The P-83 that substituted it may be less costly to produce but of inferior quality. Magazine capacity is less of an issue for me. I would, however, like to change the front and rear sights. They are too narrow for my old eyes. Nevertheless, with practice this is a small pistol you can consistently hit vital areas at 50 meters.
Reliable firearm, despite what Maza945 claims. Either he's misinformed or his relatives don't know how to properly clean, maintain or shoot this firearm.
4:24 He says 'Finish off the bad guys' and shoots at us :D Lemme guess - 'bad guys' are the tumb-downers? ;P Anyways, a very good video :) I am glad to see some Polish guns on YT :) Oh, and please tell me - does it work good for you? I've heard you have to replace the recoil spring and polish the feed ramp to make it more reliable, and I just want to make sure. And did you ever fire PM63 RAK smg? Pozdrowienia from Poland and miłego dnia :)
I would really have liked to see you shoot this in double action. I've heard they had very hard DA pulls and I wanted to see. Oh well. Are you going to be doing a real Makarov review? I love those pistols.
+duelist1954 it's funny how many people pass up a good idea such inner tube four handle grip, did that for Glock26 was wondering when I'd see that used for grip,I have used that for my glock since 26 came out.Works good had no trouble finding tube, good video.
im just lookin for a gun to throw in a SHTF bag. something that might not be super accurate or powerful, but fairly small and reliable. and cheap, so i wont feel bad if i never actually shoot it.
Owning a P64. I must say it is a Piece of,"Govno". Having the experience of carrying the TT and Makarov Pistol,(PM) in the EDF, I must say the Polish TT is a much better pistol. In fact it is the best TT quality wise. I also state the Soviet/East German Makarov is also a better pistol. The 9X18 Round is a good one, It has a similar shape to the US 45ACP. In Florida, one hunter has taken Wild/Feral Boar with his Marakov The cartridge is capable of this, See Ron's Guide Service Site photos.
Haha good attempt at Polish, the proper pronunciation is pretty similar (i.e. dzien dobry would be gen (like generation x) dobri (like dough-bry (with the y pronounced like the i in ick))
Why you'll never spend a penetration test? Shoot at a piece of wood so hard? Only tests iskolzovat have the same kind of tree. And it must be of the same moisture content.
Ja z tej broni wygrywałem zawody wojewodzkie /mundurowych/:) Problemem byla za krotka lufa i przy minimalnym drganiu w tarczy /na 50m z dobiegiem 100m- dycha w kolanach/ -pusto.
Yep they gave back crown to the eagle but i am pretty sure that this: "commies used such toys to slaughter pre-war polish elite." is far-off the truth.
Really.You can try. Były podchorąży ze Zmech-u
You are the one who is going in Circles, and not making sense. I call things how I see them and I feel the P 64 is Govno. I like the Polish TT Tokerev Pistol, it is in a class by itself. Of the TT's it is one of if not the over all best in quality. The TT is better than the Makarov. The Makarov is a better design than the P64. The East German Makarov are some of the best made, very fine The DDR perfected the Makarov. That is my experience and opinion, ever one has one and that is mine.

Not yet. Sometime this summer I will.

I have had the P64 for a few years. They are a great little pistol.
I like your enthusiasm and attention to details in all your reviews, demo's and videos...
I especially like seeing you get into character and set the mood with your hats.
Poor evil Roy...
Keep them shooting.

I don't know. I borrowed that P64 from a friend.
You do a great job, thank you for posting. Gotta love the cold war iron.
looks like it shoots well. diggin' the costume Mike!
The P64 is a bit smaller than the PM, but you control the recoil well. That is something I admire about your shooting.
Mike - Good review. I carry one. It's small and fairly light. The big drawback is mag. capacity. Totally reliable though.
Interesting gun. Looks like you needed to stop and take a breath before that last clay. Love the hat too!
I hope my pronunciation wasn't too bad.
Thanks!
Enjoyed the video, especially the beret!
hey Mike! have a great christmas, really enjoy your vids, also laden with history about the firearms, I will be purchasing one of these soon after tax season. take care!
I have been enjoying your reviews of these cold war pistols. Hope to see more.
sredni pistolet i to nie zaden klon tylko nasz rodzimy :P
I wonder if it is the same guy giving all my vids a thumbs-down lately...
I regretfully got rid of mine a few years ago...however just replaced it today! keep up the fun videos.
Yes

it's my second gun in polish police. First was TT. it's Small gun but very good.

I have found that dry firing (while holding a sight picture) helps...
I have a P64 9x18 and year made in 1967 and the bluing are good no scratches
Sto lat, Mikail.
Mike- I come for the guns but stay for the hats! Interesting review- thanks.
great video
Komrads are in russia
I’m planning on getting one soon! Love the video!

Check more modern MAG 98 polands pistol ;) Greetings from Poland.
Reliable firearm, despite what Maza945 claims. Either he's misinformed or his relatives don't know how to properly clean, maintain or shoot this firearm.
It means it was built in FB Radom factory in Poland
No. I don't have a Makarov
I have no idea
Just got my hands on one, 1975 near mint ;)
They aren't my favorite MILSURP pistol, but they are a decent solid gun.
That's pretty good stuff!
4:24 He says 'Finish off the bad guys' and shoots at us :D Lemme guess - 'bad guys' are the tumb-downers? ;P

"komrads" ? ? ? You got that wrong dude .... We are NOT Russia. We were part of "soviet block" not by choice.
lostinspace013 had anyone actually choose to be in soviet block? Did the bolsheviks win democratic election? I don't think so!
Some chose it and didn't hate the soviets. I enjoyed the decent wages, health care, jobs, housing, and flipping off the capitalist pigs.
I've fired .380 and 9x19 out of mine as well. Anyone else?
Dzien dobry my friend ;)
The Russian secret services did use it quite a bit.
Nice job. Have you tested the actual Makarov PM?
The 9mm Makarov is marginally more powerful than the .380...by a whisker.
are these reliable? my local gander mountain has them for 150$ a piece right now and im lookin to get one
how are the sights ? ive been looking at getting one of these for awhile now.
OP could probably shoot even better groups if he kept his finger on the trigger instead of releasing it after every shot.
Have you shot Czech CZ-82?
I'm going to get one at gunbroker and qualify with it as my back up...
good shots, congratulations,
I know this gun and it is not easy to shoot and hit him.
Greatings from Germany :)
Dz makes a sound more similar to j or g in genre...love the p64
Very well :)
its like you shot 2 blanks at the end
where did you get the slip on grip
+Kelly Ellis Bicycle inner tube.
+duelist1954 it's funny how many people pass up a good idea such inner tube four handle grip, did that for Glock26 was wondering when I'd see that used for grip,I have used that for my glock since 26 came out.Works good had no trouble finding tube, good video.
Dzien Dobry :)
Hi mike can you test a polish radom pitol thatnks and best wishes matt
How much should one of these in 90% + cost?
Sights are fine...trigger pull is pretty stout
Check mag 95, mag 98 and WIST
Fashionable beret, you are Pole?
Put the camera on "record", stand back and fire just above it.
Hornady makes Critical defense rounds in 9mm MAK
im just lookin for a gun to throw in a SHTF bag. something that might not be super accurate or powerful, but fairly small and reliable. and cheap, so i wont feel bad if i never actually shoot it.
It may resemble makarov pistol or Walther PPK, but the truth is p-64 is of Polish origin only.
Not painful, but I don't like the P64 trigger at all. I prefer the PA-63.
and VIS :)
Lose the Beret. You didn't earn it.
sorry, my mistake, misread your post

Eagle on your beret has a crown and i think you should take some instruction from your kapral how to wear it. KU CHWALE BETONU:D
Haha good attempt at Polish, the proper pronunciation is pretty similar (i.e. dzien dobry would be gen (like generation x) dobri (like dough-bry (with the y pronounced like the i in ick))
Sorry, but there is no substitute for practice. I keep both eyes open.

Agine some of gun written on it (11) in cycle ,
What that meen??
It is the symbol of the factory where it was made.
Please take a test gun Polish VIS or Polish pistol WIST. Grretings from Poland.
Ma-KAR-ov is the pronounciation.
Sorry what that means??
Earplugs? Never forget to wear earplugs!
I always wear earplugs. They are visible in the video if you look for them. At 0:09 you can see the tail of one of them sticking out of my right ear.
Dzień dobry! xD
mieć dobry dzień
(11) what that meen when I found it on gun

triggerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr pull what is it like !!!!!
Pretty sloppy. I think there has been a little bubba work done on this gun's trigger.
thanks
