how is it racist to make a lighthearted joke based on what an ethnic group is often doing?
i dont see what i said differently form me joking about the french always retreating, russians always drinking themselves to oblivion, the swiss being incapable of making decisions in order to remain neutral, indians always working for scam centers, the japanese always under all circumstances liking anime, etc.
let me introduce you to the concept of "making jokes/caricatures out of stereotypes"

EDIT - He clearly has bad intentions. He even dismissed sources I shown without reading them.
@@T_PLAYER okay, maybe you didn't have bad intentions. However, its problematic since "gypsy" is already considered a racial slur according to almost all Romani people (like how black people feel about the N word being spoken by other ethnicities) and they're still pretty marginalised in much of Europe. Joking about other nationalities and ethnicities you mentioned is generally fine because most people in those groups don't feel offended about those stereotypes much since they face nowhere near as much oppression in Europe as Romani people. Also, you neglected to think about why they do more crime and represent lots of prison populations. It happens for certain ethnicities when they're heavily oppressed, Aboriginal people in Australia are unfortunately a great example of this. I'm Australian and I know that their oppression is why they overrepresent crime. Its not because of their ethnicity nor culture.
Also, here's some sources in a Wikipedia article about anti-Romani sentiment and the Australian Aboriginal example below if you want evidence for what I'm saying if you still want to justify your joke.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Romani_sentiment#Contemporary_antiziganism
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Australia#Indigenous_Australians
And I know what joking about stereotypes is, but you joked about Romani people in a way that they hate which is the main issue. Marginalised people's perspectives matter more than humour from people who aren't oppressed.

how is gypsy a racial slur? thats literally how they call themselves, thats their ethnicity. if you call them romas they will threaten you or just beat you up then and there. they are proud to say that they are gypsies and proud to be called that. i have never heard one say "i am a roma" instead of "i am a gypsy" (cigány in hungarian)
and yes, i know they are widely disliked, altho that is mostly a reputation they earned for themselves. they have been here for centuries, and they keep their traditions, some being more problematic to their neighboring ethnic groups than others. their isolation from cultures around them resulted in them being uneducated and poor, which birthed the stereotype of them being thieves (because they very often steal, and thats just a fact). where i live gypsies are mostly cool. they are mostly no less educated than the rest of us, and they are mostly treated like every day citizens
i have no idea where you got your informations from, but as a central/eastern european who lived around gypsies for all of his life, i cant see how its wrong to joke about them. they are free to joke about us too, and they often do. i dont see hows that wrong either
also, gypsies are a european problem. aboriginies and things surrounding them are australias problem. i dont know crap about whats going on on the other side of the word, and thats why i dont comment on it. you similarly dont know whats going on here in everyday life, so you can only know about what others tell you, and from what i could read, youre not quite misinformed, but rather the information you got has been distorted a certain way (clear example: no gyspy would want to be called a roma, gyspy is just not a racial slur to them)

@@T_PLAYER you clearly don't care about systematic racism against them then because you're still trying to justify the fucked up joke and you ignored the sources I showed you to prove what I was saying. I'm unfortunately not surprised that you didn't give a shit.

i dont see sytematic racism against them happening where i live. they have every possibility: they can get education, they have access to medical care, they are not denied job opportunities (based on an individuals knowledge), they have access to bank systems, in some ways they even get more government support than white families
the fact that a lot of them are reluctant to work and live off of government support, actively discouraging higher education for their children and often isolating themselves from the public who nowdays dont discriminate against them as much if at all as in the last centuries is their own problem
in the past they have indeed been victims of systematic discrimination. they even were victims of the holocaust, but you dont even seem to mention that either. nowdays things changed quite a bit. they have every possibilities, they have organisation supporting them, but they choose not to live with those possibilities and remain poor and uneducated. what youre saying from the other side of the world does not hold up from my experience
you talking about issues here matter to me as much as me preaching to you about aborigines from the other side of the world. i have no idea whats going on there with them, i dont live with them either, so my input into the issue is not useful in any way. this is the reason i dismissed what you had to say, the same way you would, i assume, rightfully dismiss what i would have to say about whatever is going on on the ex-prison island you call home. the hell-hole that is eastern europe has its own problems, you have your own separate ones you have to worry about
also, for some context: the word for my ethnicity in slovak, "maďar" has double meaning. we are, by your supposed definition, a marginalised group in slovakia, my home country. we dont have anyone supporting us in the government (unlike the aborigines) (our hungarian parties have failed every time), slovak families get financial government support for moving to hungrian-majority areas (to replace us), have more economic development in their regions than in ours, ect. and back to that word, "maďar". when a slovak to another says "what are you, maďar?", they dont ask "what are you, hungarian?", they ask if youre stupid. the word they use for our ethnic group is literally a synonym for an idiot. i dont see people like you defenting the hungarian ethnic minority in slovakia, despite the "systematic discrimination" they sometimes face and have to live with
you might also want to hear about slovakisation/reslovakisation. after czechoslovakia was reborn under communism, the first thing slovakia did was sending hungarians from southern-slovakia to bohemian death camps by the tens of thousands. i dont know about you, but us, hungarians from slovakia are victims of genocide by my definition, yet you dont seems to defend us, and even actively ignoring/dismissing what i have to say, my life experiences. you seem pretty hungarophobic to me. and this conversation stems from a joke i made about a steretype of gypsies being thieves, which they often are, resulting from them very rarely if at all accepting the opportunities we are willing to give them (youre also antisemitic, because i have one jewish ancestor from my mother side. so youre dismissing what a (partial) jew has to say, thats somethign the nazis also did, just so you know)
