  • NEW! Check out my advanced gear calculator at sprockettools.... and have your transmission setup calculated for you!
    Today we will be going over how to configure your vehicles in Sprocket Tank Design to perform at their best! Here I demonstrate processes and tricks that allow you to set up your transmissions, suspensions, and engines to prevent issues such as poor acceleration, bad turning speed, and terrible climbing speeds.
    Thanks to everyone who helped contribute to this video, including ‪@Nirrti‬ from the official Sprocket Discord and ‪@retrospektro1d606‬ from the ICo community!

    I do wish we get more suspension types. Torsion bar and HVSS is fime, but we need horizontal leafsprings for authentic erlier designs, and christie, because it was insanely videspread. I can live without hydropneumatic weelhub suspension, as its a cold war invention, but it would be nice to have as the ultimate option with no downsides.

    Very interesting and informative. It should probably be noted that the diameter of your sprocket also seems to change the torque from the transmission. Big sprocket reduces torque and increases speed, where as a small sprocket will increase torque but reduce speed. This can make a pretty big impact on your gearing and engine.

    • @thewonderwaffleofficial
      @thewonderwaffleofficial  Год назад +6

      Correct, that's why I made sure to specify doing these tunings last. Might have helped to better specify that info about the sprocket specifically in the video though.

    • @Faravid829
      @Faravid829 Год назад +1

      I figured I would point it out. It was something I didn’t realize right away when I first started and as a result really struggled with getting low torque engines to work well.

    • @thewonderwaffleofficial
      @thewonderwaffleofficial  Год назад +2

      @@confusionz1625 Sprocket diameter acts as a "final gear" but does the inverse of your transmission. Bigger sprocket gears generate less torque but spin the tracks at a faster speed.
      In most non-replica builds, using a small sprocket wheel is ideal since that also means your transmission gears can weigh less.

  • @M65V19
    @M65V19 Год назад +6

    BTW, track width (I mean width of the track, not width between two tracks) can reduce or increase rolling resistance. Generally the narrower tracks the less resistance, but higher ground peassure, so it can increase speed at hard surfaces.

    • @thewonderwaffleofficial
      @thewonderwaffleofficial  Год назад +1

      I don't think Sprocket has all of those variables factored in yet, since it's pretty easy to notice that your speed isn't affected by the surface type. Currently, you can travel through Taiga's thick snow almost as easily as the sandbox's runway. That's why I didn't cover those factors in this video.

    Among other things, the brakes also affect the turning radius. This is especially noticeable on the clutch gearbox. If the brakes are too weak, the turning radius will be very large and its speed will be quite low, so you will most likely have to play with the brakes to make the turn better

    Little advice for the more precise upshift and gear tuning: Use the torque curve (press v) to determine when your transmission shifts. You won't want to lose too much torque at max rpm, so the transmission must shift when the torque starts to decrease. Also, absolute max rpm is only useful at the top gear; Thus, it is not important for the gears.

    • @thewonderwaffleofficial
      @thewonderwaffleofficial  Год назад

      Absolute max affects where you can place the upshift RPM limit at, since the game won’t allow you to set the upshift slider above the max RPM slider. As a result it does matter where you place it.

    Im not too experienced, but in ww1 vehicles and large interwar vehicles id recommend having your first gear revving as high as possible without it red lining. If it constantly red lines it makes a very bumpy ride and the thank falls down all the hills. The only good thing about it is that you can turn decently well on low torque because the tank is jumping around. I prefer having a higher torque and using the more advanced transmission though lol.

    I've tried to set the gear ratio manually, but the adjusting bar is too rough, making it allmost impossible to smaller than 0.20 adjustment. So now I set the first gear and let Sprocket set the rest. I usually want 1.00:1 at the 6:th gear with a pretty strong engine, wich I get with about 6.00:1 at the first gear.
