I watched the original video of the attack. I have to admit it did shake me a little bit. I am a veteran, and I have seen a lot of really bad things, and I worked as a coroner and a mortician for years. When he was yelling for his father, while he was being torn apart, it bothered me. I cannot imagine being him or his father. I am good with never swimming in the ocean again. I love the beauty, but I want to see it from a dry place. My fear of the ocean is that you do not see what’s coming …coming until it’s too late. There are a lot of cases of tiger sharks, bull and great whites eating people completely, or returning again and again to feed off of a victim. I do not believe the whole…We are not on the menu lie. People trying to protect tourism dollars, are getting people hurt and ended. Y’all be safe. I would not recommend watching the video.

His crying for his father got to me because you can't blame him for calling out to his Dad. But damn, if he had just yelled "help" or "AAAHH!" It wouldn't have put the burden of failure on his Dad like that. Dad is the ultimate protector. (For many, I understand not everyone feels this way)
Poor Father, absolutely nothing he could do and now he will feel partly responsible no matter what anyone says. His child called for him and he'll never forgive himself for 'failing'

One of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. When he's crying "papa", and the dorsal rises behind him, it's horror movie time. Absolutely terrifying and sad. Sharks, along with land predators like lions, bears, large constrictor snakes, etc- do what they want. They cant read the biologists paper that says we aren't their normal prey. Regardless, they all deserve respect and protection.

Hal, a swimmer was killed by a great white off of Wild Cat beach in Point Reyes, CA on October 5th. Not a lot of details, but apparently he was swimming 50 yards off shore with a group of friends when the shark grabbed him and then vanished leaving only blood in the water. His remains have never been recovered. During the fall months the large adult white sharks return to the coast to hunt seals. Probably not a good time to swim even though the water was inviting. Quite a few surfers to the south, with a small swell, sunny and calm ocean conditions.

I try to keep up with all that, but I have my limits. I also love that I feel like I'm learning something here and not just being "entertained". That doesn't seem like the right term to use even though you do tell some entertaining stories (especially your personal experiences). I can't say that I find hearing about people being mauled by sharks as "entertaining", but I do find it interesting especially since the data is not supporting all of the claims made by the "experts". I care deeply for those who have suffered from the attacks, but I also care about the sharks that are just being what they were created to be.

I live in Greece, all people said that we don't have sharks, the waters are clear. Do you know Why people thought that we don't have predators??? Because of the money the islands need tourism. Check about the areas we have sharks and the fatal deaths. We have the great white, all the species come through the Suez canal, from Australia, the Gibraltar. I live (and grew up for 18 years) in a beach city. I spent many years riding my bike to Redondo Beach, Rat beach, burnout, etc. I spent years in the waters bodyboarding, surfing, and just all around fun in the sun as a kid. The only bite we had was when some douc*ebags hooked a shark and dragged it into some swimmers and a man was badly bitten in Hermosa/Manhattan beach area. I watched Jaws several times, and even had the utterly remorseful experience of seeing Jaws 3-D in theaters (although I would gladly relive that night today) and I can remember getting the heebeejeebies in my swimming pool if I was alone in the deep end thinking about Jaws coming and biting my legs off.
I've seen horrific accidents in my days as a tow truck operator in Seattle, and watched them hose blood into the gutters, pick scalp bone and gray matter out of seats so I could turn the steering wheel (what was left of it) to load a F150 that was in 3 major pieces.
To actually stand on a beach and witness a human being fighting for their life, without the use of their arms (Mr. Popov lost his arms quite early in the attack as that is what Tiger sharks like to take first) as you can see him trying desperately to use his legs to get away and failing, while crying for his Dad....would probably haunt my sleep for many years. I saw the aftermath; the attack was gruesome, yes...but his headless corpse with bites of thigh removed, arms removed...puts into perspective just where we really are on the menu while we swim in the oceans.
I doubt I will ever return to the water, even if my little area of Redondo Beach is "safe".

I don’t think Popov had his arms anymore by the end of the video. It makes sense if his hand(s) had already been taken. Tigers take human limbs first all the time. At the end, the shark comes up and actually bites his shoulder and drives him underwater for the last time. Popov is still treading water but does NOTHING to strike back at the shark.. Looks like he was just kicking to stay afloat. Right before the shoulder bite the shark bumps him sideways and he does nothing with his arms. No attempt to separate or strike the water (like Cameron Robbins did in the first part of the video). Probably also why he didn’t call out anymore. It’s hard to yell or say anything when you are just kicking with your legs to keep your head above water.

Spot on analysis of the attack. I said the same thing on another thread. After it flipped and bumped him, as he is trying to get away there is no flailing of arms or frantic splashing. Poor dudes arms were already gone. I saw another angle of the initial attack and the initial massive splash of blood-filled water could have only happened from a limbing being torn off and massive exsanguanation. I’m a veteran and a former trauma nurse and this attack (and photos of the aftermath) was by far the most gruesome thing I have ever seen. RIP Vladimir.

Oh you can literally see at some point he makes the movement you would to like lung away from something in the water but doesn't have the arms to
Also that motion you see before the tiger shark takes him by the shoulder isn't a bump its the sheer mass of the shark displacing the water as it moves past him along with the tail pushing water around him

Great to see you back with a new vid Hal! Glad you covered The juvenile GW attack on 64 yr old Pam Cook. Imo the trademark GW initial test bite/tug or even rub since sometimes they will just bump someone has gotta be the creepiest tactic. Glad it was just a juvenile but man, obviously they are checking to see if this is prey/food before going into attack mode but it really is horrifying. Like Psss hey down here or tag your it. Only to be scrambling in fear trying to process what is happening while an apex predator lines up a kill shot. Creepy as hell, I’d rather have zero knowledge of anything being near me than turn around or look down & see a submarine with teeth just casually pondering if I’m worth the energy.

Allow the people to decide for themselves whether they'll chance swimming and possibly being added to a shark's menu, or its _mistaken identity category._

This person was eaten by a shark but the odds of it happening to you are low (cough cough unless ur the guy that was just eaten… not so good of chances for them.. but hey fuck them buy something please) so come on down to white shark cafe on the beach I don’t mean to joke but that’s basically what I get from it.

It's as pointless as saying the shark was mistaken. That it misidentified the person, thought they were a seal. Well that's not much comfort to the dead person. Or family. The main point is that if you go in the water, you might die a horrible death. This thing might chew you up and drown you etc. It might be a "lovable family shark that just made a mistake"! Say whatever excuse you like. It doesn't change the fact that it can and does happen. On purpose or mistake, I don't want biting in half! When that's a possibility, people should be able to see the results of those "mistakes", as Hal said in the video. To see what they are REALLY up against. Lying, misinforming and hiding video evidence isn't really fair
